I just dont like it, theres a lot of things I DID on my old computer (XP) that I cannot do now, my question is this, is there a way to switch to XP on my new computer that came with vista?

View 6 Replies View RelatedThe computer is less than 2 months old. We have four Users accounts set up on the computer and they are all setup as Administrators. When we switch between users the computer freezes up. The computer screen goes blank and a "NO SIGNAL" comes on the screen. I have to press the power button and the computer shuts down and then I can restart it. It happens every time. If I select the Start button then "Switch Users" it will go to the user I select but when I try to switch back the computers freezes, no mouse, no cursor, no key board, it flashes No Signal and then just a blank screen.
I have restored windows to earlier configurations, I have researched the problem on the internet through Google, I have gone to Microsoft's web site and searched for the answer and I have contacted Gateway and they had no idea. I created a Recovery Disk, backup all my settings and files, installed the recovery Disk and restored all the backup files, reinstalled all the programs and I still have the same problem.
I have to buy a new computer and am very reluctant to use VISTA (I personally like XP Home). However, there aren't a whole lot of options out there in the stores.
One option I did hear about is buying a computer with VISTA installed and with the option of downgrading (free) to Windows XP Pro.
This evening I was browsing through the Dell forum and came across the following post in a thread initiated by someone who asked if it was possible to downgrade from Vista to XP. I thought it was pretty funny and those of you with a sense of humor probably will too. "Are you SERIOUS? Vista is the greatest thing since Internet porn.

Had a virus on my computer. Friend of mine was able to wipe out my hardrive and start over, and reinstalled Vista, but my pc is not able to run vista properly. When I try to reinstall XP, it gives me an error message saying I already have a higher windows version installed. How do I get Vista off my PC?

Since I don't have Business or Ultimate, can I do an upgrade to that and then downgrade to XP Pro (as it will be cheaper than buying the non-OEM XP Pro)?

I wasn't given a restore disk when I bought my computer from Best Buy, luckily my brother had an old copy of XP Pro 32bit laying around, or at least I felt lucky when he came up with it after using Linux for a week.
My question is will I be able to switch from XP Pro 32bit back to Vista 64bit? I know jack about compatibility, if it isn't obvious. I've tried switching back to Linux Ubuntu 64bit but all I was given was error messages.
The switch to Vista has been tough for me. Lost my computer when I was doing an online college test and a storm came up. Our well pump got hit and fried my XP. I MISS my XP! It's been a real hassle trying to get things to work with Vista. Which leads me to my current dilemma...I don't know if my computer caught a bug - Kaspersky and TrendMicro Housecall don't find anything - or what, but for some reason, I lost the Windows Installer. Finally got that back, but I then "lost" my Office 2000 Pro program.
All the icons for all those files were the "generic" icons. I uninstalled Office, then reinstalled it. It seemed like things were working until I went to open my Goodsol Solitaire program. The Office installer opened and said the program was not installed and did I want to install it now? It then automatically went into the install mode. But, it would do that, then start all over.
So, I uninstalled it, then reinstalled it again. Same thing. Also, now when I want to open a Word doc, it does the same thing. When I did the install, I told the program to install all to run from my computer. I also went to open my Picture Viewer this morning and the same thing came up - Office is not installed...What can I do?

Why would this be? I am forced to press the power button and wait from 5 to 10 minutes to reboot normally. Since then I have found 64 bit to be rather incompatible with my needs. I am wondering if I can reformat my computer with 64 bit on it, then install the 32 bit software on it using the 64 bit product key so I don't use the same key twice. It would be too expensive to buy the premium version of solidworks as im a student! The only option i can think of to get solidworks to run is to downgrade to 32bit OS, maybe business or ultimate.
