I have just built a new PC and installed Vista Home Premium X64, basically, I am having a lot more software compatibility issues than I expected some with programs I require for work purposes and as such can???t be without. Could someone please confirm that Microsoft are not allowing you to use your purchased Vista licence to temporarily downgrade to XP while the well publicised compatibility issues are addressed?

My reasons are the poor networking performance of Vista cf XP and also the fact that none of the MS development systems I am using (VS6 and VS2003.NET) will run on Vista.

One option I did hear about is buying a computer with VISTA installed and with the option of downgrading (free) to Windows XP Pro.

Had a virus on my computer. Friend of mine was able to wipe out my hardrive and start over, and reinstalled Vista, but my pc is not able to run vista properly. When I try to reinstall XP, it gives me an error message saying I already have a higher windows version installed. How do I get Vista off my PC?

I have read that with the Business or Ultimate editions that I can phone customer support and do a downgrade to get an XP key if I give them my unactivated Vista key. I recently turn on indexing for certain areas like users and start menu but it temporarily slows the games down when its indexing. Is there any tuning I could do to alleviate this? I would like to keep indexing but maybe make it not index when gaming.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a serious problem - I have a certain software product (let's call it X) which works fine on all 32bit versions, but freezes up Multi-core 8 GB Vista Ultimate machine, when performing a certain actions (let's say, filling the spread sheet with data). After this program is done, Vista unfreezes and everything back to normal, but during the run, I cannot bring up any other window - not even a Task Manager (I can move the mouse, though) - clicking on the windows tabs does not do anything. I have 2 monitors and I can see Task Manager on a second one, if I bring it up before X starts to work and I see that CPU load never reaches 100%. But I cannot do anything with the PC until X is done working.

I purchased two copies of vista, one 64 and one 32. The 32 bit was installed on a different machine and the 64 bit on my own. Since then I have found 64 bit to be rather incompatible with my needs. I am wondering if I can reformat my computer with 64 bit on it, then install the 32 bit software on it using the 64 bit product key so I don't use the same key twice. Since I only have OEM, I am wondering if my 64 bit key would be compatible with a 32 bit copy of Vista.

It would be too expensive to buy the premium version of solidworks as im a student! The only option i can think of to get solidworks to run is to downgrade to 32bit OS, maybe business or ultimate. I really like what Vista is supposed to do but I'm getting way too frustrated with all the little things that go wrong all the time.
1. Internet Explorer locks up then fades and says it's "Not Responding". Then I go to Task Manager and kill the program then start up IE again and all is well, for a little bit anyway.
2. A couple of programs will all of a sudden freeze the entire laptop and the only way I can fix it is to hold down the power button until it powers down............

View 4 Replies View RelatedSince lat week that I decided to downgrade my Satellite A100-AV9 from vista to XP using original XP media of another model of Satellite A100 I used to have, I've been having a nightmare. I tried a clean install via both options the CD offered: Recover to out of box state" and erasing hard drive first and installing XP using "out of box" option. What happens is that as soon as XP boots up, for a sec the Windows XP screen shows up but suddenly crashes and after a brief blue screen a message says that the Window failed to boot up and waits for me to whether restart or go to safe mode, and no matter what I chose it crashes again. So I use a genuine software from Toshiba intended for an A100 to downgrade another A100 and it bitterly fails, so what's going on?

View 9 Replies View RelatedThe biggest factor that explains why your scores between XP and Vista are so radically different is because the benchmark program you are using (you never said which) is likely written specifically for XP. The Vista scores cannot be taken as a true benchmark unless you use a benchmarking utility written specifically for Vista, such as PCMark Vantage. You can then compare scores between yours and other Vista installations. But unless you find a utility that can correctly test and recognize the differences between both XP and Vista, you cannot accurately compare scores.
