Browsing, Possible To Downgrade From Vista To XP
Nov 21, 2007
This evening I was browsing through the Dell forum and came across the following post in a thread initiated by someone who asked if it was possible to downgrade from Vista to XP. I thought it was pretty funny and those of you with a sense of humor probably will too. "Are you SERIOUS? Vista is the greatest thing since Internet porn.
Why, since I have installed it my dog has been cured of arthritis, and my johnson has grown by a full 4". I am no longer constipated, my skin has cleared up, and I have begun to win friends and influence people. I have won the lottery, single-handedly achieved world peace, and have convinced Nicole Richie to stay sober.
Adults and small children trust me, and my bank has decided to pay ME interest on the loan I took out. My lawn is greener, and my car never runs out of has. Global warming has reversed, and disease and famine have been wiped off the face of the earth. Get rid of Vista?

I have to buy a new computer and am very reluctant to use VISTA (I personally like XP Home). However, there aren't a whole lot of options out there in the stores.
One option I did hear about is buying a computer with VISTA installed and with the option of downgrading (free) to Windows XP Pro.

Had a virus on my computer. Friend of mine was able to wipe out my hardrive and start over, and reinstalled Vista, but my pc is not able to run vista properly. When I try to reinstall XP, it gives me an error message saying I already have a higher windows version installed. How do I get Vista off my PC?

I have a new laptop with Vista Home Premium and I want to downgrade to XP Pro. I have read that with the Business or Ultimate editions that I can phone customer support and do a downgrade to get an XP key if I give them my unactivated Vista key. Since I don't have Business or Ultimate, can I do an upgrade to that and then downgrade to XP Pro (as it will be cheaper than buying the non-OEM XP Pro)?

I have just built a new PC and installed Vista Home Premium X64, basically, I am having a lot more software compatibility issues than I expected some with programs I require for work purposes and as such can???t be without. Could someone please confirm that Microsoft are not allowing you to use your purchased Vista licence to temporarily downgrade to XP while the well publicised compatibility issues are addressed?

I have searched many threads and forums for an answer to this, but I still cannot find a solution. I have 2 XP Pro and 1 Vista Ultimate systems on my network. Both the XP systems can browse each other's shares and administrative shares. Both XP systems can browse to Vista, but Vista cannot connect to the XP systems. I have Network Discovery, File Sharing and Public folder sharing enabled. I have turned all firewalls off. I am trying to connect to the machines using \PC_NAMEC$. I keep receiving the prompt to enter a username and password.

Got a problem browsing Internet from Vista Ultimate x64 machine. Symptoms:
- Can browse for about 10 secs before it stops working
- Can still ping stuff
- Laptop on same network works perfect
- ISP bill is paid
What I done so far:
- Reset router and stripped it right down to no additional services/security running
- Reset winsock
- Removed/disabled all firewall software on the system What I am trying now:
- Gonna run SpyBot
- Gonna run Winsockfix (still think that's where the issue is) What to do next?

I want to delete my browsing history completely from a pc. I had done all the usual, tools, internet options & delete. I have also used the Vista search function and found a couple of folders containing relevant material and deleted those. I have deleted the cookies manually by unhiding the directory and sniping those out. HOWEVER, if I type the name of a site into the VISTA search - a string of references appear above - as if they are still in the browing history - but they are not as I have deleted them. Is there some other reference I need to delete somewhere? perhaps some sort of shadow directory structure? The references appear as http// etc above - but these do not lead anywhere if I click on them. They must be embedded in some some sort of script somewhere.

Vista is constantly freezing up, and I really like to fix it, The cooling is good enough, The power is good enough, And the memory seems fine since I already did a memtest. It freezes at random times while doing things like browsing the web or playing a game, Ive used XP before and it had the same problem

I've just bought for my brother a new laptop (Toshiba sat A355-S6998)(Core 2 Duo 2.0 Ghz , 4 GB ram) with Vista home premium 64 bit OS on it, but i want to downgrade it to vista home premium 32 bit, because the programes my bro want to use in his study didn't work due to incompatibility issues "Autocad 2004 or 2007 versions only" and other programes. Now, is this downgrade safe? Am i going to face any problems after that? I've heard that even the platform or hardware in 64 bit differ from 32 bit, is that right? Note: A computer technician is going to perform the downgrade.

I purchased two copies of vista, one 64 and one 32. The 32 bit was installed on a different machine and the 64 bit on my own. Since then I have found 64 bit to be rather incompatible with my needs. I am wondering if I can reformat my computer with 64 bit on it, then install the 32 bit software on it using the 64 bit product key so I don't use the same key twice. Since I only have OEM, I am wondering if my 64 bit key would be compatible with a 32 bit copy of Vista.

recently bought solidwork student edition which, as i now know, doesnt run on vista 64bit. It would be too expensive to buy the premium version of solidworks as im a student! The only option i can think of to get solidworks to run is to downgrade to 32bit OS, maybe business or ultimate. My CPU is running at 64bit. Will this still all work? Or any better ideas?

I'm not a computer guru but I know enough to get myself in trouble. I bought a new Dell laptop about 6 months ago and they talked me into going with Vista Home Premium. I really like what Vista is supposed to do but I'm getting way too frustrated with all the little things that go wrong all the time.
1. Internet Explorer locks up then fades and says it's "Not Responding". Then I go to Task Manager and kill the program then start up IE again and all is well, for a little bit anyway.
2. A couple of programs will all of a sudden freeze the entire laptop and the only way I can fix it is to hold down the power button until it powers down............

Since lat week that I decided to downgrade my Satellite A100-AV9 from vista to XP using original XP media of another model of Satellite A100 I used to have, I've been having a nightmare. I tried a clean install via both options the CD offered: Recover to out of box state" and erasing hard drive first and installing XP using "out of box" option. What happens is that as soon as XP boots up, for a sec the Windows XP screen shows up but suddenly crashes and after a brief blue screen a message says that the Window failed to boot up and waits for me to whether restart or go to safe mode, and no matter what I chose it crashes again. So I use a genuine software from Toshiba intended for an A100 to downgrade another A100 and it bitterly fails, so what's going on?

I have recently had to change from an XP machine to a Vista 64 machine. My problem is when I am typing an email in Office Professional 2007, and want to attach a photo for example, I click on "attach file" and click on "pictures". All of the folders that contain photos do not appear. How do I make all of the folders appear when browsing to attach a file to an email??

I have to first vent and say how frustrated I am. I take pride in solving most issues within a few hours of research, but unfortunately I have not had such luck with this one. Listed below is my equipment and situation.
1. Dell XPS M1330 Notebook Computer w/Intel 4965AGN Wireless Adapter and Vista Ultimate x86
2. Belkin N1 Vision Wireless Router
Web browsing is extremely slow and in some cases times-out on visiting a lot of sites (but not all). Downloading files is no problem and my rate is great. It seems as if the problem is related to a Windows Update because everything was working fine, then one day just started happening. The problem does not exist when this notebook computer is hardwired or on other computers (non-Vista) that access this router. The problem also does not exist on some public wireless access points. There were a lot of updates that happened at the same time, so I have not started pulling them out one-by-one. I can't help but think someone else is experiencing this problem and may have found a solution. All drivers are updates and router has the latest firmware. I did the netsh autotuning disable when I first setup the computer (as it was a problem on a lot of Vista desktops that I have worked with).
