When I try to save or browse for a file, nothing happens. When I click "Save as..." on a program, nothing happens. If I click "Browse" on a website, nothing happens. When I first got this computer, it worked fine. I don't know when the problem first arose.

Both the XP systems can browse each other's shares and administrative shares. Both XP systems can browse to Vista, but Vista cannot connect to the XP systems. I have Network Discovery, File Sharing and Public folder sharing enabled. I have turned all firewalls off. I am trying to connect to the machines using \PC_NAMEC$. I keep receiving the prompt to enter a username and password.

My problem is when I am typing an email in Office Professional 2007, and want to attach a photo for example, I click on "attach file" and click on "pictures". All of the folders that contain photos do not appear. How do I make all of the folders appear when browsing to attach a file to an email??
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhenever I go to save something, y'know right-click, save as... etc., there's an arrow to the right which will display the last ~20 files saved, ostensibly to make it easier to save files with similar names. (Incidentally there's extreme redundancy between that and auto-complete.) I would like to disable this feature, mostly because people are always snooping in my computer, as well as the fact that I'm always accidentally clicking it.
Of course, I can merely save many files in the same format to overwrite the one on the drop-down, but that doesn't really solve the problem of my accidental clicking.
I just bought a new Dell laptop running Vista and it is not letting me save anything to the c:drive. I've looked at all of the settings and can't figure out why.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have to first vent and say how frustrated I am. I take pride in solving most issues within a few hours of research, but unfortunately I have not had such luck with this one. Listed below is my equipment and situation.
1. Dell XPS M1330 Notebook Computer w/Intel 4965AGN Wireless Adapter and Vista Ultimate x86
2. Belkin N1 Vision Wireless Router
Web browsing is extremely slow and in some cases times-out on visiting a lot of sites (but not all). Downloading files is no problem and my rate is great. It seems as if the problem is related to a Windows Update because everything was working fine, then one day just started happening. The problem does not exist when this notebook computer is hardwired or on other computers (non-Vista) that access this router. The problem also does not exist on some public wireless access points. There were a lot of updates that happened at the same time, so I have not started pulling them out one-by-one. I can't help but think someone else is experiencing this problem and may have found a solution. All drivers are updates and router has the latest firmware. I did the netsh autotuning disable when I first setup the computer (as it was a problem on a lot of Vista desktops that I have worked with).
I have followed the instructions re. Internet Explorer 8, ie. Click safety, click delete browsing history, and it says 'please wait while history is deleted', but when I go back it's still there

My internet is very slow and I cant browse certain sites for example aol.com or aim.com. I have tried many different things browsing other forums, nothing has worked. I have tried going into my network card advanced config settings, I have tried downloaded 64 bit Vista firefox browser I have re booted my modem and my router. I never had this problem with windows vista 32 bit home basic, it has only started happening now that i have re formatted.

With XP I could go to browser history-settings-view files and see allpages viewed. With Vista a lot of the pages I have viewed and need to print are not there.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got a new laptop that is vastly superior in hardware to the laptop it replaces. It is loaded with Vista Ultimate and the laptop it replaces is loaded with XP Pro. I have reloaded Vista Ultimate on the new laptop to get a fresh install without bloatware. The Vista Ultimate laptop is much slower Internet browsing with constant time outs with Firefox and with Thunderbird email. I am having to refresh pages almost every other time I got to another page. The XP machine blows this machine away as far as surfing is concerned.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI dont think this problem has been posted before. i used to have the same problem with IE7 on XP so i moved to firefox but now if i use firefox on Vista 64, (my current OS) any downloads i do go missing (this seems to be a common problem with no solution). aside from that annoyance i now find that whilst i am browsing using IE7 it all of a sudden decides to disappear. i cant even bloody decribe it. imagine you have 3-4 tabs open in 1 window and whilst your checking something on a website IE7 just decides to close. when you open it you have to load everything again. does anyone know how to get rid of this bug because its happening at least once a day! i only chose Vista 64 due to wanting directx 10 and more then 4gb recognition now im thinking twice, hass it been worth it?!

I have just purchased a new hard drive with Vista / Windows 7. I am a full time journalist and becasue I am so familiar with MS Office Word 2003 I had it loaded on my new drive. My trouble is after I save a Word file I alaways back it up on my external hard drive for saftey sake.
Whenever I attempt to do this now, however, I always get the dialogue box "This is a read only file". How do I get rid of this annoying, frustrating problem. I simply want to back up a word document on an external drive ... so why won't it let me do it. And why does it stipulate that it is a "Read only file" when I never saved it originally as such?
I want my new messages to come in at the bottom but everytime I open my email box it is back at the top again. It is most annoying. This just started happening since I replaced my hard drive. Is there some setting I am missing?

"Right-click on the Documents file and choose properties. Select customize Use this folder as template: All Items Apply this template to subfolders" This list a fix for when located in specific area but for myself these files are not located it the documents folder and this fix does not work. If you feel this post would be better served elsewhere (security, network sharing)
I don't want to delete my pics, but I don't want them in the gallery anymore. Help tells me to right click on a folder and then choose "remove from gallery." I don't have this option.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIm having issue browsing and downloading stuff online with IE7 and Firefox 2.0.0.14, firefox works better but is sometime slow for no reason I though it was the website but i tried on my other pc and its on the fly. I was downloading an update and its only downloading 9k/sec i turned off all other programs and its still slow as hell tried on other computer and its downloading at 300k/sec. I've done a clean install of windows and its still doing the same thing. In IE some pages dont even load... this is getting anoying.

I installed SP1 on my Vista Home Premium and started to have internet problems. I started getting page could not be displayed errors or it would take minutes for a page to download. I got errors in Yahoo mail that it was taking too long to download. I also have an HP network printer and could not get a print job to work. I uninstalled SP1 and everything returned to normal. Unfortunately soon after it got infected with a strain of Vundo, which I think I've erraticated, but somehow the machine still seems compramised. I can FTP, Email, Telnet with no problems, but once I open a web browser the wait for pages to load is painful. I have ClamWin as my main anti-virus software - I"ve scanned in SAFE MODE memory and all partitions

Soon after I run these programs web browsing is zippy for a little bit, but then strarts crawling. Images or ads won't load and then pages time out. I'm not sure what else I can check to see what is going on. Other machines on same network work fine.
I have an annoying problem. I use my Vista PC for image editing and organization. I browse to these files quite often, and they are arranged in a very hierarchical directory structure with folders on top of folders to keep everything nice and neat.
Many times, I will need to perform an edit that I require assistance from the internet on. So I fireup my trusty browser, drop down what I expect to be the internet browsing history to visit a trusty resource that I recently visited, only to find that my @#%@^%ing local browsing history has almost completely populated this list.
