View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to save or browse for a file, nothing happens. When I click "Save as..." on a program, nothing happens. If I click "Browse" on a website, nothing happens. When I first got this computer, it worked fine. I don't know when the problem first arose.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWould you like to make a shortcut that will clear all of your personal information from IE7? Using a cool trick it is very easy to call the API's that the Delete Browsing History box in IE7 uses to clear your Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, History, Form Data and Stored Passwords. Follow the steps below to make a shortcut that clears all of these items or just a specific item:
Right click on your desktop and select New and then Shortcut.
For the location of the item, enter one of these values: ....
I want to delete my browsing history completely from a pc. I had done all the usual, tools, internet options & delete. I have also used the Vista search function and found a couple of folders containing relevant material and deleted those. I have deleted the cookies manually by unhiding the directory and sniping those out. HOWEVER, if I type the name of a site into the VISTA search - a string of references appear above - as if they are still in the browing history - but they are not as I have deleted them. Is there some other reference I need to delete somewhere? perhaps some sort of shadow directory structure? The references appear as http// etc above - but these do not lead anywhere if I click on them. They must be embedded in some some sort of script somewhere.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI can delete my browsing history but it dosen't delete my favorite history. I don't want to delete my favorite list, just the history from when I access my favorite sites. Also how do I stop pages from auto loading. When I leave my pc on, when I get back to it I noticed other sites have automactically loaded. These ere sites my grandson went out to. I really don't have a need to go out to ninja turtle sites. I have tried everything I know to correct the above two issues but can't.

View 9 Replies View RelatedRunning Windows Vista Ultimate. Display turns off after about fifteen minutes regardless of whether I am actively using the computer or not. The only way to turn the display back on is to close and then open the lid. This disconnets me from AOL, so I have to sign back on again, and if I was emailing, I might lose my current email. Under Power Options, I have 'Turn off the display' set to Never for both On Battery and Plugged in. Under 'Put the computer to sleep' I have both On battery and Plugged in set to never. Nonetheless, the display still shuts off while I am working. What do I need to do to prevent the display from turning off at odd intervals?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am embarrassed to ask it. Previously I had WindowsXP on my laptop - to turn it off you went to Start, Turn Off Computer. This laptop is using Vista, and I cannot find anything comparable. Last night I turned it off using the off-on button, so got the Windows did not shut off properly message when I turned it on; and I have a "thing" about leaving my computer on overnight. Also, is there a way of hiding all the command bars to "hide" like you can with the taskbar on the bottom?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI need to recover deleted IE history and have scoured all different sources for recovery and im starting to doubt whether or not it is possible.
What I know wont work:
System Restore- The history was deleted between restore points, and the restore points on either side of it being deleted dont have the relevant history
What I've tried:
Index.dat readers. This is what I'm confused about, everywhere I go say this file holds all IE history unless its been altered, but from everything I've actually tried it seems all the index files I can find just hold information I can pretty readily access already.
So I'm willing to try any suggestions, and also if anyone has a little more info on index.dat that would change what I've found out myself.
everytime i delete my internet histroy I notice that like 5 or so sites stay under history in the address bar. can anyone tell me how to permanetly get rid og them? Ive tried deleting auotcomplete but that doesnt work either.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhat's the name of the feature that tracks the things you type into the address bar and then populates the dropdown list of the last 20 you entered as well as generating a list of past sites you've typed as you type in a new URL? I'm looking for a way to clear that list, but first I need to know what it's called.
So far I know it's not considered a "Form" because Clear Form Data doesn't remove it. It's also not "Inline AutoComplete" because I've got that turned off. It's also not "Search from the Address Bar" because I've turned that off as well.
That's about all I need to know.

It used to be (in XP) that if you opened, say, My Computer, and pressed ctrl+h, you would see all the files you had looked at using windows explorer. View 8 Replies View RelatedSeveral days ago there was a large number of updates available to download. I allowed the system to update all of them. Three, KB974234, KB972581 and KB973709 it was shown on the update history page as failing to download. Reading as to a possible solution, I tried to load them manually, saving those files to my desktop, right clicking on each, to run as an administrator. After each loaded I got a message telling me they were already installed on my system. My question is why does the "failure" notice remain on my history page and how can I delete those three file entries?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe Command Interpreter (which I use very often) appears to have a bug; When I install DOSKEY with the /HISTORY parameter, it works fine for a certain time, and after that suddenly it loses its history, i.e. does not 'remember' the commands which I had entered. DOSKEY /REINSTALL /HISTORY does not help. The 'memory' has disappeared forever. All I can do is exit and open a new instance of the command interpreter. Can anything be done to circumvent this strange behavior? I encountered this on two computers, both under Vista Home Premium.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS. I possibly want to upgrade to Windows 7 equivalent. Here's my dilemma: I installed Service Pack 1 via Windows website download manager, and after a fashion, it appeared to have installed and it rebooted my system. It clearly shows as having been installed according to Windows Update History. [Additionally, Service Pack 2 is not offered as a download, but the rest of my query, please.] HOWEVER, according to Microsoft, when I click START > right click COMPUTER, at the top of that resulting page and beneath my version of Vista it should show "Service Pack 1."
In my case, it does not! FURTHER, I downloaded and ran Windows 7 Update Advisor, the results show I need to download and install Service Pack 1. I'm aware that I can download. or order on CD, each of the Service Packs and install, starting with Service Pack 1 before attempting to install Service Pack 2. Why does Service Pack 1 show as installed in Windows Update History, but does NOT seem to be installed according to the two other instances/sources I've mentioned above?
I have searched many threads and forums for an answer to this, but I still cannot find a solution. I have 2 XP Pro and 1 Vista Ultimate systems on my network. Both the XP systems can browse each other's shares and administrative shares. Both XP systems can browse to Vista, but Vista cannot connect to the XP systems. I have Network Discovery, File Sharing and Public folder sharing enabled. I have turned all firewalls off. I am trying to connect to the machines using \PC_NAMEC$. I keep receiving the prompt to enter a username and password.
