View 6 Replies View RelatedWhat happened to the viewed files history? It used to be (in XP) that if you opened, say, My Computer, and pressed ctrl+h, you would see all the files you had looked at using windows explorer. Now, the internet explorer history works perfectly fine, but for the life of me I cannot find this file history on vista.

Using a cool trick it is very easy to call the API's that the Delete Browsing History box in IE7 uses to clear your Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, History, Form Data and Stored Passwords. Follow the steps below to make a shortcut that clears all of these items or just a specific item:
Right click on your desktop and select New and then Shortcut.
For the location of the item, enter one of these values: ....
I have a program which enables me to save embedded flash files to my hard drive. I just got a lap top, with Vista installed, and for some reason I am unable to see swf files that I save. They *are* there, because if I try to re-save the same file to the same folder, I get the file already exists message.
I never had this problem with XP, so I'm thinking it's something about Vista settings. I've already tried enabling show invisible files and checking "read only" in folder options.
When system crash, i get a bsod like this:After it crash, windows saves the log in C as prefix crash.dmp Where can i get to that log file?

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy laptop suddenly shut itself down for no reason. When I restarted it, I was given a fresh new desktop with new music folders, documents folder etc.etc. I have since found out I was given a TEMP account - which is weird because I still logged into MY personal profile with no problems (and no warning messages about files being lost when I shut the computer down). Anyway, since I didn't get any message, I worked on my website pages all day and saved the work into a folder on the "new" desktop.
HOWEVER... after restarting the computer the next day and logging into my profile, I was presented with my original desktop - - - BUT NO FOLDER WITH ALL MY WORK! When I searched for the specific files and folder on my computer - I found the files, but I could not open them because "C:UsersTEMP(folder name)" did not exist! Is there a way.. ANY WAY of getting those files back?
When I create word documents in vista, they are always saved as .docx files. When I or others open these documents on PCs they are gibberish. How can you save a word file as a .doc in vista?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI tried out Vista Ultimate 64bit for a month and got whipped by driver issues. I installed Vista Ultimate 32bit on a 2nd partition and tried using Windows Easy Transfer to transfer files and settings from the 64bit installation and pick them up in the 32bit installaion. This is the error I get every time I try to complete the transfer: "The store you selected was saved on a 64bit machine. Windows Easy Transfer cannot apply the data." Is there a way to use WET to transfer files from a Vista-64bit installation? If not WET, is there another utility?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI can delete my browsing history but it dosen't delete my favorite history. I don't want to delete my favorite list, just the history from when I access my favorite sites. Also how do I stop pages from auto loading. When I leave my pc on, when I get back to it I noticed other sites have automactically loaded. These ere sites my grandson went out to. I really don't have a need to go out to ninja turtle sites. I have tried everything I know to correct the above two issues but can't.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI need to recover deleted IE history and have scoured all different sources for recovery and im starting to doubt whether or not it is possible.
What I know wont work:
System Restore- The history was deleted between restore points, and the restore points on either side of it being deleted dont have the relevant history
What I've tried:
Index.dat readers. This is what I'm confused about, everywhere I go say this file holds all IE history unless its been altered, but from everything I've actually tried it seems all the index files I can find just hold information I can pretty readily access already.
So I'm willing to try any suggestions, and also if anyone has a little more info on index.dat that would change what I've found out myself.
everytime i delete my internet histroy I notice that like 5 or so sites stay under history in the address bar. can anyone tell me how to permanetly get rid og them? Ive tried deleting auotcomplete but that doesnt work either.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhat's the name of the feature that tracks the things you type into the address bar and then populates the dropdown list of the last 20 you entered as well as generating a list of past sites you've typed as you type in a new URL? I'm looking for a way to clear that list, but first I need to know what it's called.
So far I know it's not considered a "Form" because Clear Form Data doesn't remove it. It's also not "Inline AutoComplete" because I've got that turned off. It's also not "Search from the Address Bar" because I've turned that off as well.
With XP I could go to browser history-settings-view files and see allpages viewed. With Vista a lot of the pages I have viewed and need to print are not there.

View 8 Replies View RelatedSeveral days ago there was a large number of updates available to download. I allowed the system to update all of them. Three, KB974234, KB972581 and KB973709 it was shown on the update history page as failing to download. Reading as to a possible solution, I tried to load them manually, saving those files to my desktop, right clicking on each, to run as an administrator. After each loaded I got a message telling me they were already installed on my system. My question is why does the "failure" notice remain on my history page and how can I delete those three file entries?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe Command Interpreter (which I use very often) appears to have a bug; When I install DOSKEY with the /HISTORY parameter, it works fine for a certain time, and after that suddenly it loses its history, i.e. does not 'remember' the commands which I had entered. DOSKEY /REINSTALL /HISTORY does not help. The 'memory' has disappeared forever. All I can do is exit and open a new instance of the command interpreter. Can anything be done to circumvent this strange behavior? I encountered this on two computers, both under Vista Home Premium.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS. I possibly want to upgrade to Windows 7 equivalent. Here's my dilemma: I installed Service Pack 1 via Windows website download manager, and after a fashion, it appeared to have installed and it rebooted my system. It clearly shows as having been installed according to Windows Update History. [Additionally, Service Pack 2 is not offered as a download, but the rest of my query, please.] HOWEVER, according to Microsoft, when I click START > right click COMPUTER, at the top of that resulting page and beneath my version of Vista it should show "Service Pack 1."
In my case, it does not! FURTHER, I downloaded and ran Windows 7 Update Advisor, the results show I need to download and install Service Pack 1. I'm aware that I can download. or order on CD, each of the Service Packs and install, starting with Service Pack 1 before attempting to install Service Pack 2. Why does Service Pack 1 show as installed in Windows Update History, but does NOT seem to be installed according to the two other instances/sources I've mentioned above?
