View 5 Replies View RelatedI copied some old jpg photos from a floppy disk and transferred them to a CD since my new computer doesn't have one and not all the photos would open and those that did had a "saw blade" edge to them...large pixels that don't look like that on my old compter. Most of the photos were 40-420mb. Only about 1/3rd would open up and when I tried to open or preview, I got a pop up that said, "Photo gallery can't open this photo or video. The file may be unsupported, damaged or corrupt. I used Nero 6 to do the transfer and never had that problem befofre. Any advise on a solution?
View 5 Replies View RelatedHowever, I now cannot backup my email. Before I would copy the dbx files and it would take about 10 minutes to do 5gb. Now however - I have 400,000 eml files (I have a lot of email from my web businesses). These eml files are all small. So my problem is that windows first of all takes approx. 2 hours just to calculate the damn size. Then when it eventually starts to copy the files from one location to another (Either on the same RAIDed sata drives, or to another) it estimates days of transfer time left. And I know the calculations are never right, so I left my PC on for 9 hours one night and it wasn't even half way through! It was transferring at 2mb per second! I can upload the data to the internet and back faster than that!
I mean - what the hell? If 98 can do it, me, 2000, xp... what's gone wrong with Vista? So far it's been a pile of junk and it's driving me mad! I'm really trying to like it and make it work, but it's about to be sent back to the shop. So folks - can you tell me why this nonsense? How do i get around it? How can I backup these thousands of tiny files without leaving my PC on for days (I want to do a 10 min backup each day to another sata drive, simple task).

i go back to the site and buffer the video again and right click, "save video as" again and in the browse window I SEE THE FILE!! I have a vista home prenium on my advent 8315. On 13th april and turned on my laptop and began doing some homework. As there was a update on my widows update i finished my work and set it to update itself and i moved on to hand written work. As i use my laptop every day at "school" i have nearly a whole year of work saved on my laptop for my A levels. I saved all my work in a folder in my documents which i find now to be gone. I have tried using tune up utiliys "undelete" and "disc explorer" to find it yet it not there. One of the updates was for my office 2007 "sevice pack 1".

I am logged on as the administrator. There are no other users on the computer except for a asp.net user. I am using Office 2003. There are no 2007 version loaded on the machine. Vista is Home Premium 32 bit I think. This also happened on my PC which has the same version of Vista.
Slowly but surely I'm learning more and more about Vista interface and I like the idea behind the Media Center. However, as much as I like it I would prefer if all media was saved to my second hard-drive where I would like to keep all the media instead of where Vista saves them into the HD that I want to keep relatively clean as the system drive. What would be a workaround for: Keep using Media Center but forcing it to use say. Drive D as the storage space for media.

I then forward the e-mail and before sending it, open the attachment to check it, only to find that he changes I made are not there. Where does Mail/Word save the copy of the attachment I saved? Does Vista have temporary folders that it saves these files to similar to XP and, if so, where can I find these?

View 5 Replies View RelatedUsing Vista Ultimate 64bit We have created a bat file that performs multiple XCOPY commands to copy various files all over the network from key servers and workstations to the local machine into a PGP encrypted drive, drive letter V. So a typcical command might be something like: XCOPY \Server_Nameshare namespecial folder*.* V:Special Folder or XCOPY \Server_Namec$another folder*.* V:Another Folder
The local machine has a user logged in as a Domain Admin The network connection is 1gbit We have tried this bat file many different ways.
1) Manual Backup - by that I mean double clicking the bat file to run, sometimes is done and backs up everything in 8 minutes.
2) Scheduled Backup - task scheduler as domain admin DOMAINAdmin Name running with as high a priv as possible - everything backs up in 21 minutes Same scenarios, manual backup runs in 20 minutes, sometimes the scheduled is 40 minutes The local machine is running AV software - CA etrust - which also runs on an XP machine that does not display this speed behavior. The local machine is running Diskeeper 2009. I do not know if this matters, since the benchmarks are so different in each test. I know VIsta now does indexing of files for searching, could this be creating an issue? We have tried different switch ports, different network cables, verified the gbit.
I have just started using M/S Office words. I saved my homework as a docx file. When I went to reopen my saved homework(in Documents), I get a message, docx is not a valid Win32 application'. Why is this? Is it because I am running Vista 64bit on my computer. I moved the homework to a m/stick, put the stick into my laptop (vista 32bit)and the homework opened, good as gold.

I never had this problem with XP, so I'm thinking it's something about Vista settings. I've already tried enabling show invisible files and checking "read only" in folder options.

i dunno if i had a bad shutdown, a BSOD, or whatever, but every time i start up Hold 'Em, it always asks if i want to resume my saved game. it's always the same hand, same standing, and hence i can't advnace my stats. not much of a big deal since it's just and "extra", but the issue intrigues me. i took a quick look around the file system and was not able to find any directory for the game - i was hoping to delete the save file if i could find it.

I worked on them at school, emailed them to myself and when I reopened them at home I finished the projects. They are a word and apowerpoint file. I saved repeatedly with cntrl S.... Shut the programs, and now I can't find them anywhere. Yes, i have tried everything. I have spent hours on the phone with people trying to help me. I have looked in the temporary internet files, I have searched for the file names, I have done EVERYTHING I know to do. Surely since I saved these files they are somewhere on my computer.
