Slowly but surely I'm learning more and more about Vista interface and I like the idea behind the Media Center. However, as much as I like it I would prefer if all media was saved to my second hard-drive where I would like to keep all the media instead of where Vista saves them into the HD that I want to keep relatively clean as the system drive. What would be a workaround for: Keep using Media Center but forcing it to use say. Drive D as the storage space for media.
I was using Microsoft Outlook Express as my mail client. Then Microsoft advised users to update to Windows Mail since they no longer supported Outlook Express..so I did. Now Microsoft is directing users to install Microsoft LIVE Mail? What is the difference between Microsoft Mail (which I am running) and Microsoft LIVE Mail....and, why would a user run LIVE over MAIL?
Is there any way to retrieve changes made to an attachment that were manually saved, but not "saved as" and placed in a folder on my computer? I use Vista's Windows Mail to recieve my mail.
I copied a small file from my XP to a cd to install on new laptop with Vista Home Basic. Everytime I try to run the program on Vista it tells me to insert the cd. Why won't it save the file?
When I open an attachment received via e-mail, a copy of the file is being saved to the desktop. I believe the file used to be saved to the temp folder. This started happening within the past 2 or 3 weeks. Any idea what setting or windows setting is causing this new behavior? Or how to fix it?
I have a game that I gave up on, and made the mistake of saving it. Now, it asks me every time if I want to reopen the same saved game. Even after winning the saved game, it asks me again. How to I get rid of a saved Freecell game?
i was on a divx streaming site, watching a video and as the video finishes buffering i right click and go to "save video as" i then save the file (to my desktop, not a hidden folder or a protected operating folder) the file saves ok and the size of my c:/ drive goes down, so i know its on my laptop but when i close everything and go to desktop the file is not there! i've searched for it on my drive but the search doesnt find the file! i've tried saving the file to other folders (my documents, downloads etc)
i go back to the site and buffer the video again and right click, "save video as" again and in the browse window I SEE THE FILE!! (it also asks if i want to overwrite/replace the file) but still i dont see the file on my actual desktop or folder i saved it to! it isnt another users desktop its been saved to or some hidden folder, its my main desktop i am the only user on this laptop i've searched for viruses and such and tried alot of option changes but still dont find the file! i try to copy the file from the "save as" box but it says it cant or cant find the file (it is there because the size of my drive goes down and the file is visible in "save as" box) i've also tried to play the said divx file from the "save as" box but it still says it cant find the file

I have a vista home prenium on my advent 8315. On 13th april and turned on my laptop and began doing some homework. As there was a update on my widows update i finished my work and set it to update itself and i moved on to hand written work. As i use my laptop every day at "school" i have nearly a whole year of work saved on my laptop for my A levels. I saved all my work in a folder in my documents which i find now to be gone. I have tried using tune up utiliys "undelete" and "disc explorer" to find it yet it not there. One of the updates was for my office 2007 "sevice pack 1".
This is the 2nd time this has happened. I was e-mailed a Word document (docx) vision. Opened the document, worked on it, used Ctrl S to save and cannot locate the saved document.
I export a datafile from the internet and save it as an excel file. I click on browse and save it to users/name/mydocuments/directory. Then I go look for the file but cannot find it. I re-download it but keeps telling me that the file already exists, so I put a 2 at the end of the file name. Save that. Then I cannot find the first and second file.
I am logged on as the administrator. There are no other users on the computer except for a asp.net user. I am using Office 2003. There are no 2007 version loaded on the machine. Vista is Home Premium 32 bit I think. This also happened on my PC which has the same version of Vista.
I have opened an attachment (word doc) from an e-mail, worked on it in Word (2007), and saved it. I then forward the e-mail and before sending it, open the attachment to check it, only to find that he changes I made are not there. Where does Mail/Word save the copy of the attachment I saved? Does Vista have temporary folders that it saves these files to similar to XP and, if so, where can I find these?
I'm going to do a science fair project and I thought I would to something to do with computers.I was thinking of making a theme for vista that people who aren't tech savy ,so they can easily tell what is what.Does anyone know how to go about this? I would like it as a msstyles theme rather than Window Blinds. Or else does anyone have any annoying problems with there computer that I could make a solution for?
Media center keeps popping up, I have not been able to find a way to disable it, so that I can use the program only when I want. It is very tiresome to keep have it. open when ever I pop a cd or dvd in to my drive. I would like some control over which program I use to view/listen to the media I have, and not have one pop up automatically.
I have just started using M/S Office words. I saved my homework as a docx file. When I went to reopen my saved homework(in Documents), I get a message, docx is not a valid Win32 application'. Why is this? Is it because I am running Vista 64bit on my computer. I moved the homework to a m/stick, put the stick into my laptop (vista 32bit)and the homework opened, good as gold.
I have a program which enables me to save embedded flash files to my hard drive. I just got a lap top, with Vista installed, and for some reason I am unable to see swf files that I save. They *are* there, because if I try to re-save the same file to the same folder, I get the file already exists message.
I never had this problem with XP, so I'm thinking it's something about Vista settings. I've already tried enabling show invisible files and checking "read only" in folder options.
I was just wondering if ther was a way to access a list of the websites for which Internet Explorer as saved passwords. I don't don't want to know what the passwords are, just for which sites I have saved passwords.
when I try to download anything to my computer, I get this message: C:UsersCraftApp DataLocalTemp and it also says that it could not be saved because you (me) cannot change the contents. (I am the admin on my computer, so why can't change it?)
I also want to know what program can permanently get rid of programs after I already uninstalled them, because they seem to be leaving a trail behind on my computer and I think that is what is causing this message. Also, If you can tell me what program there is for windows vista home premium SP2 64-bit.
i dunno if i had a bad shutdown, a BSOD, or whatever, but every time i start up Hold 'Em, it always asks if i want to resume my saved game. it's always the same hand, same standing, and hence i can't advnace my stats. not much of a big deal since it's just and "extra", but the issue intrigues me. i took a quick look around the file system and was not able to find any directory for the game - i was hoping to delete the save file if i could find it.
I am wanting to do a clean install of Vista Ultimate soon, I was wondering if there is anyway I can save all the settings for my Services (services.msc). I have Vista services tweaked the way I like them and having the settings saved would make reinstallation a lot quicker and easier. I know they can be exported as a TXT document but I was wondering if I can save the Registry entries and if so, where are they stored?
I'm not sure if vista mail is the same as hotmail but I am in a major state of emergency finding these files. I worked on them at school, emailed them to myself and when I reopened them at home I finished the projects. They are a word and apowerpoint file. I saved repeatedly with cntrl S.... Shut the programs, and now I can't find them anywhere. Yes, i have tried everything. I have spent hours on the phone with people trying to help me. I have looked in the temporary internet files, I have searched for the file names, I have done EVERYTHING I know to do. Surely since I saved these files they are somewhere on my computer. A shortcut comes up in word to the word document but says the path is invalid, but it also says that the file is on F drive, which I didn't use. This is a final project for a college class.
This has happened 4 times with Vista:A word on the Desktop is opened, modified, saved and closed. Then, the word file is opened but it is showing an earlier version of the file.Any ideas on how to recover the word file and how to avoid this from.
I'm new to vista and i'm just wondering...just media center require media player to work? If not is it possible to remove wmp11? On that note, is it also possible to remove IE7? As I am a devoted Firefox user

I'm using MS word 2007 on Vista. Months ago, I made a document then saved and later then whenever I open MS Word, it appears "that document" as a template. How can I erase that document and go back to a blank .doc page?
