View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I open an attachment received via e-mail, a copy of the file is being saved to the desktop. I believe the file used to be saved to the temp folder. This started happening within the past 2 or 3 weeks. Any idea what setting or windows setting is causing this new behavior? Or how to fix it?
View 9 Replies View Relatedmy windows mail has suddenly lost my folders & messages, it doesn't matter what I try I can't seem to get anything apart from a message popping up saying low memory or not enough disk space, & I only brought the laptop 3 days ago & only registered my email today I had 2 folders & 3 messages in my inbox.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI don't know what I did but I somehow lost all my folders in Windows Mail. I'm using Windows Home Premium Vista.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows Mail that is "connected" to my Verizon account. Months ago I created subfolders to archive older emails. I diligently moved them into this folder. I also created another subfolder under the archived folder as well. I've had what I can only call "mysterious" issues where e-mails appear and them moments later, they are gone from my inbox. I thought I had the issue (simplistically) solved by diligently moving new items into the archive folder immediately.
Now (12/26/09) those subfolders are gone. They are not under any other folder in Windoes Mail. What is very odd (and there's quite a lot) is that I did find a lot of them now back in my Inbox but not all. The archived folders I created were under the Inbox folder as a subfolder. I don't think this has anything to do with views.
This is the third time now my mail has had problems. I am at the moment attempting to get Microsoft help but that seems to be taking forever. 2 times previous to this I have logged into my Windows Mail and found that they have had to retrieve all my mail folders as they got "lost" somehow. Now I log in yesterday morning to check on some e-mails that I have saved in a folder titled "Job Searches" and all of the e-mails in there are there in title only but have no content. Another folder same thing basically except that every e-mail content is the same. I'm baffled.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was attempting to do a screen shot, captured what I wanted, sent it as a "jpeg" file to my desktop so that I could attach it to forward it. But the screenshot has replaced my desktop. The photo is there, as well as all the icons, but the screen is non-functional. I can go to Control Panel and change the desktop, I have a new desktop, but it is a blank desktop, with nothing but a beautiful photo. I really do not know what I did to create all of this mess. The computer works, but I must access programs using "start" menu as the icons are just photos and not operational. I wonder where the desktop went. I want to correct this, but I am not the most effective computer owner, I know how to operate most of the programs, but am baffled by the technical end. I do have the option to update to Windows 7, but I am not sure that will correct the problem. It is 12:30am, and I have been attempting to correct this since 4:30pm and I am tired. I a nite owl knows an answer, it would sure make for a better morning
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy computer was infected with Vista Guardian 2010 two days ago. I first ran a full scan using McAfee but didn't detect anything. Following a friend's advice, I then ran Windows Update on the system. After restarting, I lost my desktop, only a small window saying "Personalizing the personal setting of your Internet Explorer" and it stayed there for ever. I managed to get online through Task Manager by hiting ctrl+alt+del. Then I downloaded Microsoft Security Essential and it found two malwares.
I clicked "Remove Now" to the first one and my desktop came back. So when the second message prompted me to "Restart Now", I restared my computer while the scanning was still running. After restarting, everything was fine except a bit slower than before. But when I tried to open any .exe file (like IE browser, Firefox browser, MS Security Essential), none of them would open. The system keeps asking me which software I want to use to open the file, and still wouldn't open. I cannot open any browsers and cannot get online now. What should I do? (I tried in Safemode, and didn't work either).
In error, I unistalled Remote Desktop Connection when I was having EXTREME problems with VPN. Now I can't reinstall it. I found a link at MS, Remote Desktop Connection (Terminal Services Client 6.0) for Windows XP (KB925876), but when I try to run or save it, I get an error message "Not enough storage is available to process this command." I then saved the program to my desktop which it readily accepted, but it wont let me run it.

I have lost, for some reason, the Create a Desktop Short cut from my right click context menu.
I tried one thing and all I got was the Desktop icon on my Desktop. I did more searching but can NOT find: "the file *Desktop (create shortcut)* from the Default user folder."
I went to my User folder and there is no such item. Am I looking in the wrong area?
I am trying to create remote file sharing among my colleagues. We want to use a desktop (with no wireless connection) with business vista as the server and create all the sharing folders in the desktop. After that, we connect to the desktop through a common workgroup. We have done all the setup but we simply can't remotely connect to the desktop at all. The error msg is 0x80070035 and network diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not receive a response. Cannot communicatge with the "Desk Computer Name - ip address" Can someone teach me and show me what is the problem? Don't refer me to another websites because I have already checked and I still don't understand.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have googled this to death and I have also search here and I have not found an answer. I am ready to migrate to Windows 7 and I am trying to move my wife's desktop items to another folder on another drive but I am finding this simple task annoying and impossible since all it wants to do is place shortcuts on the target folder.
I am trying to do this as an Administrator but no matter what I try, I get the same results. I am sure there is a simpler way to go about doing this but... I am also sure I can't find it!
Since I built my new PC and loaded Vista64 in Feb/09 about 2 times per mth my desk top icons/folders freeze up and I have to re-boot my PC to get them to open again. Is there a fix for this or is it inherent due to web sites I visit/spyware?
View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter installing SP1, I noticed that some folders had disappeared from my desktop. A couple were folders of shortcuts (easily recreated), but one was a folder of recently taken photos. I know I hadn't deleted it myself because my recycle bin still contains some of the rejects I deleted from that folder, so if I had deleted the folder itself it would also be in there. Ahen I went to restore one of the rejects it told me the folder it came from no longer existed. I was hoping Vista had just moved the folder, but a file search could not find it. And my weekly backup only copies my hard disk, which I guess does not include desktop items? Is there any way to retrieve these folders?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was working on my laptop earlier this evening moving a few files around and organising my folders when I lost a few files from a folder. I don't know exactly what happened, I probably mashed the touch pad. Anyway, now I can't find the files anymore. I've tried running a search but it has come to no avail. How do I find my files? If it makes any difference the files were on a memory stick.
View 9 Replies View RelatedO/S Vista Home Basic 32 bit. I had some IE problems which were also interferring with my printer causing it not to print. MS/MVP, PA Bear, helped me solve the IE problem in the IE group, which in turn solved the printer not working problem. Now I just have 1 little glitch. The printer will NOT print as long as UAC is enabled but WILL print when UAC is turned off. I did post this question in the printer group 4 days ago but have had no responses.
So my question now is this: Is it important for me to have UAC enabled? In the household there is only 1 computer & 1 printer (both wireless) & I am the only one who knows how to use the computer. I am not worried about people tampering around with my computer in my home. I'm a little foggy as to exactly what UAC controls but from what I can make out it seems it only involves preventing someone from making unauthorized changes to my computer.
Speaking from your experience with x64 OS and various programs, does it make a noticeable difference when it's running in 32bit mode or if it's running native? It can be any kind of programs, instant messaging, playing games, firewalls, browsers... etc etc. I want to ask a specific question, Should I go with 32bit mode firefox, or minefield? Is the 64bit optimization worth it to deal with a beta program? or would 32bit mode firefox just be easier to use.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI did a clean install using the tutorial as a guide on a 64 bit machine. It was seamless and worked perfectly. Now I have 70 "important" updates, but I am hesitant because I don't know which ones I should install first. They are not dated as far as I can see unless I look at each one individually. I have downloaded to my computer but not installed any yet. Using SP1 from one year ago.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am running Vista Home, 32 bit, with SP2.
I turned on my laptop, and there was no wireless internet. Turns out a lot of important services have stopped and I cant turn them on.
They include:
DHCP Client
Diagnostic Policy Service
IPsec Policy Agent
Network List Service
Network Location Awareness
Office Source Engine
Windows Firewall
Windows Time
I managed a workaround by defining an IP manually to my wireless card, and at least it connected to the internet, but DHCP is still stopped. So is the Diagnostic service, so the "repair button" wont work either.
When I go to services and try to start them, I get the error, "Access is denied", or "The dependency service or group failed to start".
My Network sharing centre is saying the same thing. Firewall is also disabled, error is "Security centre cant turn on windows firewall"...
that is my current problem and ive been searching everywhere for a solution and came up empty handed so i decided to post here, maybe someone has my answer. i also try and click the install important updates and does nothing, same with install updates and shut down computer....just freezes >_<
