Deleting Remnants Of A VISTA Search, Delete Browsing History Completely From A Pc
Apr 7, 2009
I want to delete my browsing history completely from a pc. I had done all the usual, tools, internet options & delete. I have also used the Vista search function and found a couple of folders containing relevant material and deleted those. I have deleted the cookies manually by unhiding the directory and sniping those out. HOWEVER, if I type the name of a site into the VISTA search - a string of references appear above - as if they are still in the browing history - but they are not as I have deleted them. Is there some other reference I need to delete somewhere? perhaps some sort of shadow directory structure? The references appear as http// etc above - but these do not lead anywhere if I click on them. They must be embedded in some some sort of script somewhere.
everytime i delete my internet histroy I notice that like 5 or so sites stay under history in the address bar. can anyone tell me how to permanetly get rid og them? Ive tried deleting auotcomplete but that doesnt work either.
I have followed the instructions re. Internet Explorer 8, ie. Click safety, click delete browsing history, and it says 'please wait while history is deleted', but when I go back it's still there
This has just started happening,any-one else experience it.? When i click on delete history in ie 7 or temp internet files the box that opens is totally blank.
This may not matter but it is regarding a 64-bit system. When the new computer was originally set up, it was not networked and there was no reason for a user name with password. Now the computer is part of a network so it was necessary to have a password. Additionally, the user's name had a typo error. We attempted to correct the spelling of the user name and add a password but the results were not as anticipated.Going into Control Panel/Users, the old incorrect name does not appear. In Windows Explorer, immediately under Desktop, the old user name does appear and the subfolders under that user name cannot be accessed.Under c:/Users, the new correct user name appears and those files are fully accessible. We would like to fully delete the incorrect user name and the associated folders that cannot be accessed anyway. However, I am concerned because on other Vista computers the user name always appears both under Desktop and under Users. I am also worried about deleting other folders under the incorrect user name for fear that the computer may need these even though we did not create them. how to delete these unwanted items and confirm what subfolders we can safely delete.
I can delete my browsing history but it dosen't delete my favorite history. I don't want to delete my favorite list, just the history from when I access my favorite sites. Also how do I stop pages from auto loading. When I leave my pc on, when I get back to it I noticed other sites have automactically loaded. These ere sites my grandson went out to. I really don't have a need to go out to ninja turtle sites. I have tried everything I know to correct the above two issues but can't.
With XP I could go to browser history-settings-view files and see allpages viewed. With Vista a lot of the pages I have viewed and need to print are not there.
Would you like to make a shortcut that will clear all of your personal information from IE7? Using a cool trick it is very easy to call the API's that the Delete Browsing History box in IE7 uses to clear your Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, History, Form Data and Stored Passwords. Follow the steps below to make a shortcut that clears all of these items or just a specific item:
Right click on your desktop and select New and then Shortcut.
For the location of the item, enter one of these values: ....
When deleting my problem history - it informed me that 2 Items could not be deleted! To clear out your problem history the manual way go to "C:ProgamDataMicrosoftWindowsWER" Inside you will see to folders - in which you simply delete the contents of both.
I am hoping to find an automated method for deleting the Vista Search Folders. I tried command line scripts to remove the folder (RMDIR or DELTREE), but I'm not having any luck with the search folders. I am able to delete other folders with a script (like this one): Del C:Myfolder*.*.* RMDir C:Myfolder But I cannot delete a Vista Search Folders like this folder; C:UsersmynameSearchesEverywhere I can delete them manually, but not with a script.
i deleted some files from a folder to the recycle bin. it let me empty them out of the recyle bin too. they are still showing if i do a search for them. i won't let me completely delete them. i can't find any other program they running in to prevent me from completely deleting them. i don't know what i can do. its just stuff downloaded off the web nothing licensed!
I had a problem with Adobe Acrobat that has been resolved. I have a new 'Adobe Acrobat Distiller Printer' installed and all is well. I am trying to get rid of the old one and it says "Deleting - offline" and stays that way even after rebooting. I can highlight id and press delete or right click delete or Alt+File->Delete but it doesn't go away.
I have searched many threads and forums for an answer to this, but I still cannot find a solution. I have 2 XP Pro and 1 Vista Ultimate systems on my network. Both the XP systems can browse each other's shares and administrative shares. Both XP systems can browse to Vista, but Vista cannot connect to the XP systems. I have Network Discovery, File Sharing and Public folder sharing enabled. I have turned all firewalls off. I am trying to connect to the machines using \PC_NAMEC$. I keep receiving the prompt to enter a username and password.
On my wife's Dell XPS laptop, vista business, it keeps identifying dell media center as a keylogger. I have no way of finding where the file is or disinfecting it. I have kaspersky suite 2010, I tried running Malwarebytes and IObit and they found nothing. Is this bad or should I search and delete whatever it is?
So I have been testing Vista Ultimate 32bit SP1 for a week now to see if Vista is ready for primetime. I almost ironed out all bugs that was holding me back from switching from winxp. All except one. I can't make Vista shut down completely. It seems to turn off, but all fans keep spinning. No matter how long I wait. I'm not a novice computer user so please don't tell me I might have mistaken sleep, hibernate with SHUT DOWN.
This evening I was browsing through the Dell forum and came across the following post in a thread initiated by someone who asked if it was possible to downgrade from Vista to XP. I thought it was pretty funny and those of you with a sense of humor probably will too. "Are you SERIOUS? Vista is the greatest thing since Internet porn.
Why, since I have installed it my dog has been cured of arthritis, and my johnson has grown by a full 4". I am no longer constipated, my skin has cleared up, and I have begun to win friends and influence people. I have won the lottery, single-handedly achieved world peace, and have convinced Nicole Richie to stay sober.
Adults and small children trust me, and my bank has decided to pay ME interest on the loan I took out. My lawn is greener, and my car never runs out of has. Global warming has reversed, and disease and famine have been wiped off the face of the earth. Get rid of Vista?
A lot of times when I am surfing the web I come to a site that has an information search box. When I click inside of it there is often a window that pops up showing all my previous queries and entries. What is the name of that kind of box, and more importantly, how do I delete the contents of the box??
I performed a "search" for a portion of a name of an encryption program that we deleted from our computer because it didn't appear to be fully compatible with vista, even tho the creators said it was (they did admit tho that they didn't test it)...the "search" turned up 335 items, most of which were "image files". We cannot delete the thumbnails because it says the file or folder has been deleted. These items came up as search results in indexed locations. we tried to go to the location and delete that way with no luck.
Got a problem browsing Internet from Vista Ultimate x64 machine. Symptoms:
- Can browse for about 10 secs before it stops working - Can still ping stuff - Laptop on same network works perfect - ISP bill is paid
What I done so far: - Reset router and stripped it right down to no additional services/security running - Reset winsock - Removed/disabled all firewall software on the system What I am trying now: - Gonna run SpyBot - Gonna run Winsockfix (still think that's where the issue is) What to do next?
Not sure if I should use this, as I have Office 2007 installed? Not sure if MS is referring trying to use this utility to remove Office 2007 installer reminants, or not to use it if you have Office 2007 installed??
The performance of Vista completely craps out every couple of months on me. I have been wondering if my issue may be the compatibility of my 64bit version of Windows and my hardware. If this is the case, would you guys think that upgrading to Windows 7 could possibly end this tedious and annoying problem?
how to change the user name on a Vista operated computer without completely reinstalling the operating system software and all the applications that already installed? I need to put her name in as the user and remove mines.
Vista is constantly freezing up, and I really like to fix it, The cooling is good enough, The power is good enough, And the memory seems fine since I already did a memtest. It freezes at random times while doing things like browsing the web or playing a game, Ive used XP before and it had the same problem
Today I had a need to find some questions and responses that I'd sent to and received from, some of the MS newsgroups (including this one). It seems that Vista Mail has auto-magically deleted a large number of old newsgroup messages that I had previously downloaded to my machine, so I've lost that history. I've been through all the dialog boxes I could find and I cannot find any "delete downloaded news messages after ...." option. Odder still, if I use the Mail search tool to find messages, it finds some. If I then go back to the message viewer, that gets refreshed and the search "hits" disappear from the found items dialog. Are old messages actually being deleted from the MS servers somewhere and my local cache is then being kept up to date by deleting the old messages? So the question is, "How do I prevent Vista Mail from deleting old newsgroup messages?".
How can I get the XP search GUI within Vista Ultimate?
I despise the new Vista search. It assumes too much, takes too long and even when files exist, it returns no results. In a nutshell, Vista file search ****!
Is there anything I can do besides downgrade to XP?
I created three files home exercise 1.jpg, exercise .jpg, exercise 3.jpg in Public/Physical Therapy. When I searched for execise in Public none of them showed up. When I searched for home only home execise 2.jpg showed up. I am using Vista Home premium. The folder is index including both file name and contents.
