A lot of times when I am surfing the web I come to a site that has an information search box. When I click inside of it there is often a window that pops up showing all my previous queries and entries. What is the name of that kind of box, and more importantly, how do I delete the contents of the box??
View 5 RepliesOn my wife's Dell XPS laptop, vista business, it keeps identifying dell media center as a keylogger. I have no way of finding where the file is or disinfecting it. I have kaspersky suite 2010, I tried running Malwarebytes and IObit and they found nothing. Is this bad or should I search and delete whatever it is?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI performed a "search" for a portion of a name of an encryption program that we deleted from our computer because it didn't appear to be fully compatible with vista, even tho the creators said it was (they did admit tho that they didn't test it)...the "search" turned up 335 items, most of which were "image files". We cannot delete the thumbnails because it says the file or folder has been deleted. These items came up as search results in indexed locations. we tried to go to the location and delete that way with no luck.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI want to delete my browsing history completely from a pc. I had done all the usual, tools, internet options & delete. I have also used the Vista search function and found a couple of folders containing relevant material and deleted those. I have deleted the cookies manually by unhiding the directory and sniping those out. HOWEVER, if I type the name of a site into the VISTA search - a string of references appear above - as if they are still in the browing history - but they are not as I have deleted them. Is there some other reference I need to delete somewhere? perhaps some sort of shadow directory structure? The references appear as http// etc above - but these do not lead anywhere if I click on them. They must be embedded in some some sort of script somewhere.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been using MS Office Word 2007 for several years, but recently upgraded from Vista Ultimate-32 bit to Vista Ultimate-64 bit. Before this upgrade (and through no effort on my part), when I would begin to type either the name of a day or a month, I would get an automatic "tip" that would finish the word by pressing "Enter". This autocomplete function, which was very useful, no longer seems to be working since the upgrade. I checked Word Help, and it claims that "AutoComplete is still available for the current system date, months, and days of the week."

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen sending an e-mail in WM I begin entering an e-mail address in the To box that should autocomplete. I've got autocomplete set. But it does not. I imported my address book from Outlook Express. I've Google'd around for help with this and see lots of complaints but no mention of fixes. I realize this problem much have been posted to this group many times. But it is not showing up in any of the postings that I can currently view and I am new to the group.Hope someone knows of a fix.
View 5 Replies View Relatedexcept for a few grand issues like Search failing with special/technical searches rather than simple filename search, 85% of this OS is now great. I love it now. And can you guess how many processes show up in TaskManager? 26. ONLY TWENTY SIX. My IE8 starts up lightning fast and swings by all sites except videos, for certain sites w/FlashPlayer & Videos I enable CompatibilityView which aligns those older sites to IE8.
Applications startup as if they were already loaded into Memory, faster than in WinXP. Who knew? It feels like quad-core at 4GHz, seriously. Everything is momentary as if it were loaded from RAM This OS is still a failure, however, versus WinXP. Are you shocked to hear "failure" after my praises, do I contradict myself? No. Because most people are far from my tenacity and just by education, hobbies and profession I alway stune up things to perfection. My cheap car leaves far more expensive models wondering what rocket had just passed them on LIE Expressway. I enjoy tinkering with technology.
It took me 2 weeks (?) to tune up Vista beast to be a polished fast, bug-free beast. It's more convoluted than was tuning WindowsXP. I spent several days in Registry, GroupPolicies, SecPolicies, filesystem digging out and blatantly renaming & moving system files no one is supposed to touch.........
Ive ran all the usual virus and malware checks and all is clear. Ive checked Event Viewer I see an error every 2 minutes or so. Error message with red exclamation is: 'The Windows Search Service has failed to create the SystemIndex search index. Internal error 1, 0x800700b7, Failed to add Gather Application: Windows>.'' After this warning icon shows error message: 'The Windows Search Service is attempting to remove the old catalog.' Next another warning icon shows message:..........
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've got an apparently "broken" search installation. So that I can skip through the normal "click the folder you want to index" type of answers, it's way beyond that. Let me give some background first. This is a new installation of Vista x64 Ultimate on this machine. I just installed it a little over a week ago after I got a blue screen of death that wouldn't allow any type of system restore, etc on the prior install. My prior installation on that machine was a Vista Ultimate x32 bit. The prior installation had the OS on the C: drive and I had moved "My Documents" out of a Windows XP onto the D: drive (D:My DOcuments).
In that prior installation, I left all Music, Videos, documents etc. under the original layout and just pointed the Vista "music", "documents", etc folders to the sub folders. I had no problem indexing on my prior version. I have a Vista 64 bit Ultimate at work as well and IT has no problem indexing even under the default locations..........
The new interface in Office 2007 has a great new look but finding your favorite feature can be a little difficult at first. Microsoft Office Labs offers a helpful utility called Search Commands that brings search to the ribbon. Can’t find a specific feature? Just search for it! ....

It sucked up 70 MB of ram with its 4 processes, Its a pile of crap like all vista inspired software.. after living on 2 of my computers for 2 days I removed it .. I know that with msconfig, I can choose which one is my default installation, or how long I get to wait before it defaults to the default and there are other options there as well, except to rename it. View 5 Replies View RelatedOn some websites and forums there is a remember me function where the site remembers if you want to stay logged in without you having that site open all the time or myspace.com where the remember me function can be used so you dont have to put your email address in everytime you log on. My query is on vista home premium 32bit which im using after each reboot it forgets any information you had told the pc, so on each site including here i have to type in my user name or email address every time.Is this a security issue with vista or just an error.I obviously dont want it to remember my passwords but id like not to have to type in my email address for every login screen. Finally if I leave the pc on all day I can leave and visit any site and it remembers but once a reboot is done its back to square one.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis was posted on Vista.general.discussion for a couple of days ago. I have an old system disk with XP which I moved to the E-drive when I installed Vista on a new disk. Everything of the OS on the old XP disk is deleted with the exception of this System Volume Information. I?ve taken the ownership and is now allowed to look into the folder. But no way of deleating it. No usable answer was given to the question other than moving my files to the C disk while formatting E. that might be the end solution. But does anybody know of a trick with or without editing the registry.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've changed the security settings in IE7 to a custom level, and now I get the notification bar saying "Your current security settings put your computer at risk. etc." I know this can be disabled via gpedit.mcs but of course Vista Home doesn't include that feature. So, a couple questions. Nobody here seems to know much about getting GPedit to work in Vista Home, so I won't even touch that. However, I did see mention of the Microsoft speadsheet that lists all the various group policy settings and their corresponding registry entries. I found the "Disable Security Settings Check Feature" entry, but now I'm not sure what to do with it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 198 GB HDD that has only ~3GB of space left. I cannot delete
any more data, i already did disk cleanup and deleted any non-critical
files. I did a disk analazyz and found that the system volume
information folder is taking up an enormous 89 GB of space that's almost
as large as the files I put on there (107GB). This is my server machine
(wndows server 2008) so there is not any system restore to reduce. Is
there anyway to safely reduce the space that this takes up.
A quick peak into the file tree shows that just one file takes up over
67 GB of space.
I'm also using Bitlocker on this and all drives.
Is there a way to perform an analysis of the fragmentation level of a drive in Vista Home Premium? I miss being able to see a graphic representation of a disk's fragmentation. Also, previous versions of Windows provided the user a progress bar than informed them of the status of the defrag program when it was running. It appears that Home Premium runs in the background and one never gets a "defragmentation complete" dialog box with options to see a report. I've tried running it manually and not closing the Run dialog box, but it seems to run for hours without any feedback to the user.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having difficulty connecting to the wireless network that my apartment building provides. I just purchased a new computer with Windows Vista. On my old computer, which had Windows XP, I had no problems. All XP required of me was to enter the password that my landlord provided to me in order to access the secured wireless network. However, now that I have Vista, I try to connect and it asks me for: 1. Username, 2. Password and 3. Log on Domain. The only information I have is the password which worked on XP before. When I enter only that, I get a message saying "Additional Log on Information Required" or something to that effect. I don't have any more information than that.
