our office bought an acer aspire m5640 with windows vista...we have encountered many problems because some of the programs use in the office are designed only in xp...i tried to downgrade to xp but an error occured.

I have severe lag while playing games, Online or Offline. my fps goes from 70-100 to 1-3.
I've Cleaned the insides, and updated the software.

Customer locked out of her Acer Aspire 3680.
I hope no one minds me posting this question here but I am at a loss to solve this issue and hope someone here can help. My customer is locked out of her Acer Aspire 3680. She hasn`t used it for a few months and has forgotten the password. I have searched the net for possible solutions and tried everything I came across that appeared to make sense but other than sending the laptop to Acer for them to unlock it at approx ??100 plus postage and VAT
I have no idea.
I have tried and had no luck with the following:
?I have opened up the back to try and find the CMOS battery
?I have disconnected 4 connectors that look like they could lead to a CMOS battery for more than 30mins?

I'm trying to connect my Acer Aspire x1700 (Vista Home Prem) to my Sony Bravia TV using an HDMI cable. Both the PC and TV have female HDMI jacks and I thought I followed the install steps as per the instructions but no joy!!
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire 5610 running vista, which was upgraded from XP. No problems were encountered during installation. I was able to play cd's and dvd's, until a week ago. Since then I insert a disc and nothing happens, I click on Media Player 11 and it prompts me to place a disc in drive E: When I click on "My Computer" the drive is there but a red circle with a diagonal red line through it appears on top. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drive etc. Still no joy.

I have done scans using Macaffee, windows defender, disk defrag, and clean up. But nothing seems to help the speed. I purchased two copies of vista, one 64 and one 32. The 32 bit was installed on a different machine and the 64 bit on my own. Since then I have found 64 bit to be rather incompatible with my needs. I am wondering if I can reformat my computer with 64 bit on it, then install the 32 bit software on it using the 64 bit product key so I don't use the same key twice. Since I only have OEM, I am wondering if my 64 bit key would be compatible with a 32 bit copy of Vista.

It would be too expensive to buy the premium version of solidworks as im a student! The only option i can think of to get solidworks to run is to downgrade to 32bit OS, maybe business or ultimate. My CPU is running at 64bit. Will this still all work? Or any better ideas?

I really like what Vista is supposed to do but I'm getting way too frustrated with all the little things that go wrong all the time.
1. Internet Explorer locks up then fades and says it's "Not Responding". Then I go to Task Manager and kill the program then start up IE again and all is well, for a little bit anyway.
2. A couple of programs will all of a sudden freeze the entire laptop and the only way I can fix it is to hold down the power button until it powers down............

I tried a clean install via both options the CD offered: Recover to out of box state" and erasing hard drive first and installing XP using "out of box" option. What happens is that as soon as XP boots up, for a sec the Windows XP screen shows up but suddenly crashes and after a brief blue screen a message says that the Window failed to boot up and waits for me to whether restart or go to safe mode, and no matter what I chose it crashes again. So I use a genuine software from Toshiba intended for an A100 to downgrade another A100 and it bitterly fails, so what's going on?
