Feb 10, 2009I just purchased an Acer Aspire L3600 with two 300gb dir. [duo cpu E4700 @ 2.6 ghz] which came loaded with Vista Home Premium [32bit] and I'd like to load XP Home.

Acer Aspire-5100: Fps Goes From 70-100 To 1-3
Apr 12, 2009I have an "-Acer Aspire 5100-", I've owned it for a two years. I am having some problems with it, three types to be sure:
- RAM
- Graphics
- Overall Performance
-Problem One-

I have severe lag while playing games, Online or Offline. my fps goes from 70-100 to 1-3.
I've Cleaned the insides, and updated the software.

I've installed 4 GB of DDR2 Ram, It shows that I have 2.25Gb (which does Sh*t all)

My overall performance is horrible, I can't do any thing without lag. It took me 2 hours to write this because of lag

I hope no one minds me posting this question here but I am at a loss to solve this issue and hope someone here can help. My customer is locked out of her Acer Aspire 3680. She hasn`t used it for a few months and has forgotten the password. I have searched the net for possible solutions and tried everything I came across that appeared to make sense but other than sending the laptop to Acer for them to unlock it at approx ??100 plus postage and VAT
I have no idea.
I have tried and had no luck with the following:
?I have opened up the back to try and find the CMOS battery
?I have disconnected 4 connectors that look like they could lead to a CMOS battery for more than 30mins?

Feb 5, 2010My acer notebook is about 9 months and has turned really slow. i think it needs to be seriously cleaned up. I have done scans using Macaffee, windows defender, disk defrag, and clean up. But nothing seems to help the speed. Sep 28, 2007Got myself the Acer 5920 with the intel dual core processors. Every site says its 64 bit but still they installed the 32 version. For example, 3D Studio Max has 2 versions; 32 and 64 bit. The installer recognizes the 32 bit vista so it WONT install the 64 bit, but it does install the 32 bit version. Loading up the 32 bit version: it doesnt, error. Wrong processor.
So now I want to install the 64 bit vista. I got a dvd with it but whenever I run setup.exe or the autorun, it gives an error saying wrong os or summit (can look the exact error up when I'm home again) The question I already thin I know the awnser on: My pc can run vista 64 bit, right? Anyone else has issue's with 32/64 bit versions of software not running?
Or a solution how to install that 64 bit version? Booting didnt work, it doesnt see it as a bootable disc (I pressed F12, and when the pc boots it first checks the cd for a bootable disc) Im getting a new vista 64 dvd btw since the version I got was from a friend if ye kno wha I mean :P (wanted to test it before buying it, honnestly).....

I have done a few things, like using vista boot cd to try bootrec.exe (and all it's commands), searching for winload.exe (which hasn't been modified since 2008 by the time stamp), I've done chkdsk /f, and maybe a few other things which right now I can't remember....so If you dare try your hand at the mutant, ooze-breathing bsod I commend you brave one, but I warn you...yes.

Jan 13, 2009I'm currently running my upgraded rig on Vista Ultimate 32 bit and would like to have 64 bit installed because I have 6 gigs of ram that I would like to be able to use. My problem is that when I boot from my DVD drive, it says it loads the windows files, but then when its like setting up the install or something (The green bar is scrolling across the screen), it gets hung up then, after a minute or two, becomes a BSOD. 32 bit did something similar, but never gave me blue screen just kept stopping and starting again. I'm stumped.

I wasn't given a restore disk when I bought my computer from Best Buy, luckily my brother had an old copy of XP Pro 32bit laying around, or at least I felt lucky when he came up with it after using Linux for a week.
My question is will I be able to switch from XP Pro 32bit back to Vista 64bit? I know jack about compatibility, if it isn't obvious. I've tried switching back to Linux Ubuntu 64bit but all I was given was error messages.

Apr 1, 2008I currently own a Sony VAIO running on VISTA Ultimate 32bit. This version was upgraded from Windows VISTA Home Premium through Windows-Upgrade-Anywhere. Because of various issues with VISTA and my Laptop I decided to upgrade to a faster machine with 4 Gig Ram. I now would like to upgrade me VISTA Ultimate 32bit to VISTA Ultimate 64bit to remove the 3 Gig RAM restrictions.
Unfortunately no one at Microsoft could really tell me how to do this. This is a all a big mess and trying to find information is really hard. The company I run has a icrosoft Action Pack subscription and I now even have 10 VISTA Business/Ultimate licenses... but again... all for 32bit. I really don??t understand why it needs to be so hard to simply swap a 32bit acquired license for a 62bit one. It??s an unnecessary restriction. From a Microsoft Hotline I learned that swapping 32bit/64bit is no issue if I bought a boxed version of VISTA Ultimate. The funny thing is that the same Hotline told me months ago that there is no difference between buying a "virtual license" through Upgrade-Anywhere and buying the boxed version.

May 16, 2008I am currently running Vista Home Premium 32bit (OEM, sadly) and would like your advice. I am planning on building a new PC over the summer (as I can finally work for decent wages!) and I want to make it a beast. I'm not going to go completely crazy; I'll have a budget of around €1,500 to €2,000. For the most part, I have a good idea of what I'll be getting (X38 Intel mobo, E8xxx Core2 or Quad, R700 ATi or 9xxx nVidia etc) but when it comes to RAM I'm a bit stuck. Should I get 4GBs and a cheaper 32bit version of Vista or go for the 64bit? I know 64bit can theoreticly handle alot more RAM than 32bit, but with 4GB is it worth spending the extra cash on 64bit, or will 32bit handle it just fine? (And by "handle it" I mean utilise it fully. I dont want to find only 3GBs out of 4GB are actually being used...) Aslo, for the 64bit users out there: how is driver support? Are you encountering many problems with games/drivers/hardware?

I am now using the free trial version of Zone Alarm Security Suite and will buy it if it is any good. I ran a virus and spyware scan and the virus scan came back with nothing and the spyware had 3 items. I then ran my free version of adaware and this found 74 items!! Is it best to keep using both these products together, or should I just find something better than ZA? At a loss as to what is the best thing to use. Running Vista 32 bit.

Apr 8, 2009I don't know why but for some reason within the last week or so my xbox360 has stopped connecting to my hp laptop (vista home premium 32bit). I have a 2wire 1800hg gateway, with both the laptop and xbox connected wirelessly (using Intel link 5100/official microsoft wireless connector respectively).
As I say before a few days ago I could access my shared media via my xbox dashboard, as well as via the media center extender. However now it's not working. The 2wire has it's own firewall but I have opened the laptops connections up completely today (although this wasn't an issue a week or two ago?). And I've opened up many ports in windows firewall too.
When I look at the full map in the network and sharing connections window it does indeed show the xbox and laptop connecting to the router, so it is seeing it. However no connection can be made in either direction (i.e. the xbox cannot find any pc's and the pc's media center can't find the mc extender). I've tried numerous things so far, opening ports etc.. but nothing has worked, so this is my last resort!

Mar 23, 2008I have an Acer Aspire 5610 running vista, which was upgraded from XP. No problems were encountered during installation. I was able to play cd's and dvd's, until a week ago. Since then I insert a disc and nothing happens, I click on Media Player 11 and it prompts me to place a disc in drive E: When I click on "My Computer" the drive is there but a red circle with a diagonal red line through it appears on top. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drive etc. Still no joy.
