View 5 Replies View RelatedSince I have upgraded the PC to Vista, I cannot use anymore WinTV-HVR-1300 (PCI) (Same issue with PCTV Dual hybrid - PCI-Express). Vista simply hangs while booting, the last driver loaded is crcdisck.sys. If I remove the WinTV card Vista works perfectly. With WinXP all was working fine. I tried to remove all the cards from the PC... the issue happens when I insert the WinTV or the PCTV card... Of course I also tried to change some settings in the BIOS without success.

I take it that this is for 32bit programs and the other for 64bit applications. The question I have is most of the programs are in both folders which means taken up valuable harddrive space, is it advisable to delette the 32bit folder.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm currently running my upgraded rig on Vista Ultimate 32 bit and would like to have 64 bit installed because I have 6 gigs of ram that I would like to be able to use. My problem is that when I boot from my DVD drive, it says it loads the windows files, but then when its like setting up the install or something (The green bar is scrolling across the screen), it gets hung up then, after a minute or two, becomes a BSOD. 32 bit did something similar, but never gave me blue screen just kept stopping and starting again. I'm stumped.

He's only got Vista Ultimate 32bit retail while i have a Vista Ultimate 64bit OEM disk. So is it possible to send him my 64 bit disk and for him to install the 64bit version with his code so he can access all the ram hes going to have.

Suddenly, now, when plugging in a CF, I get a message telling me the CF card has to be formatted. I tried this with a blank CF, but then got a message saying the card couldn't be formatted. I wasn't given a restore disk when I bought my computer from Best Buy, luckily my brother had an old copy of XP Pro 32bit laying around, or at least I felt lucky when he came up with it after using Linux for a week.
My question is will I be able to switch from XP Pro 32bit back to Vista 64bit? I know jack about compatibility, if it isn't obvious. I've tried switching back to Linux Ubuntu 64bit but all I was given was error messages.
I currently own a Sony VAIO running on VISTA Ultimate 32bit. This version was upgraded from Windows VISTA Home Premium through Windows-Upgrade-Anywhere. Because of various issues with VISTA and my Laptop I decided to upgrade to a faster machine with 4 Gig Ram. I now would like to upgrade me VISTA Ultimate 32bit to VISTA Ultimate 64bit to remove the 3 Gig RAM restrictions.
Unfortunately no one at Microsoft could really tell me how to do this. This is a all a big mess and trying to find information is really hard. The company I run has a icrosoft Action Pack subscription and I now even have 10 VISTA Business/Ultimate licenses... but again... all for 32bit. I really don??t understand why it needs to be so hard to simply swap a 32bit acquired license for a 62bit one. It??s an unnecessary restriction. From a Microsoft Hotline I learned that swapping 32bit/64bit is no issue if I bought a boxed version of VISTA Ultimate. The funny thing is that the same Hotline told me months ago that there is no difference between buying a "virtual license" through Upgrade-Anywhere and buying the boxed version.
Is there a way to run a certian program with admin privilages on a user without admin privlages other than typing in a user with admins privilages. (On my Vista home prem 32Bit OS not Vista Ultimate x64)

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a 2 year old XFX GeForce 8600 GT PCIE 16X that Im trying to install in a new computer with vista 64 and on board ATI radeon HD 3200. The first couple times i tried it, after install, i got no graphics at all, until i removed the card. After going into the BIOS, and changing the "displayPort Config" from Auto to Enabled, the on board graphics would work with the card installed, but not the card graphics. When i try to load the supplied drivers I get this message "The VGA detected seems not XFX's product. please go to nvidia.com to get the driver for the other NVIDIA VGA."
I dont understand that, but i then downloaded updated drivers from Nvidia, but when i try to install them, i get an assortment of error messages, including "The Nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware", "you are running a 32bit version of nvidia uninstaller on a 64bit system", "setup detected the operating system in use is not windows vista 64bit" these errors seem to contradict themselves.
Is it possible this card is not compatible with the computer? The card may be bad, as my old PC lost graphics, but the geek squad (a bunch of morons by the way) swapped cards and still no graphics and said my MoBo was bad, so i just got new PC, but woudl like to use this card , as I assume its better than the included built in graphics. Going into the MoBo users guide, it doesnt cover switching from on-board graphics to PCI slot, other than describing how to configure the BIOS settings for the graphics card to support ATI Hybrid CrossFireX. I tried that, but it didnt seem to do anything either. im guessing the ATI contol center software doesnt show the enable CrossFire option without a CrossFire compatible card installed, or i didnt install the drivers correctly for that function.
I have just brought a Media PC with a en9800GTX video card which has 2 DVI ports, I was told by the supplier that it is meant to be really good and do everything, I was also told when i got the machine that I really needed a HD TV with an HDMI port on the back so I had to go and get a panasonic TH-42PZ80B again being assured that this was what I needed. further to that I had to get a HDMI cable that would connect to the ports of the video card (via a hdmi to DVI converter) again being assured that this was everything I needed. Picture quality is great but there is no sound!
I can plug speakers into the back of the pc (green port with a standard cable) but there is nothing coming out of the TV, I have been told to right click on the sound icon in vista a change the audio to the TV but it is not listed! the media PC was brought on the basis of being speced to the hilt but there seems to be so much conflicting information and nothing works! 4k down and seems that I have brought a donkey!
I am currently running Vista Home Premium 32bit (OEM, sadly) and would like your advice. I am planning on building a new PC over the summer (as I can finally work for decent wages!) and I want to make it a beast. I'm not going to go completely crazy; I'll have a budget of around €1,500 to €2,000. For the most part, I have a good idea of what I'll be getting (X38 Intel mobo, E8xxx Core2 or Quad, R700 ATi or 9xxx nVidia etc) but when it comes to RAM I'm a bit stuck. Should I get 4GBs and a cheaper 32bit version of Vista or go for the 64bit? I know 64bit can theoreticly handle alot more RAM than 32bit, but with 4GB is it worth spending the extra cash on 64bit, or will 32bit handle it just fine? (And by "handle it" I mean utilise it fully. I dont want to find only 3GBs out of 4GB are actually being used...) Aslo, for the 64bit users out there: how is driver support? Are you encountering many problems with games/drivers/hardware?

When I installed Vista, I did a clean install and before doing so, I wrote a list of the drivers I might need to get later, like my graphics card, wireless network card, etc.I failed to write down the 5-in-1 card reader, so I don't know what model or anything it is, but it doesn't work. On my device manager, I have a section called "SD Host Adapters", with "SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller" underneath it. I use an SD card, so I would assume this is related. However, under "Other Devices", I have three devices called "PCI FLASH Memory" and they all have a problem. I would assume this is the card slot. Also, does anyone know where I can get x64 drivers for a Synaptics PS/2 Touchpad? It works, but the scrolling features don't work.

I tried my dads computer and it play slow but good in till I wanted to save and play online. I made a user and went back to the game to sign in and I had to install a update. I installed it and GUESS WHAT? IT BROKE THE GAME!!! I had to reinstall it and tried again but the game broke again... I played and played till I tried again and it again broke so I had to reinstall, but found out the the DISC 2 WAS A MESSED UP MESS. And one thing I don't know is how it got like that. It was sitting on the table and got barely moved. If I had the right computer. this wouldn't happened. Later on... My dad,my sister, and me went shopping to get a me a game and maybe to get something. I was in the game ale. As it turns out there was not a lot of good games. I spotted the GTA 4 game and I got a idea. I forgot to add I was at Wall-Mart and I was on a boating trip. I went to the computers and found the one that we have in the barn [We didn't had one in the barn yet at start] and look at the the computers specs and asked a few things. I got all of the specs except the video card. It doesn't work with the one in the barn.
View 3 Replies View RelatedBeen having issues with my lap top recently so on the advice of a bod on here I decided to get a better fire wall than Zone Alarm free. I am now using the free trial version of Zone Alarm Security Suite and will buy it if it is any good. I ran a virus and spyware scan and the virus scan came back with nothing and the spyware had 3 items. I then ran my free version of adaware and this found 74 items!! Is it best to keep using both these products together, or should I just find something better than ZA? At a loss as to what is the best thing to use. Running Vista 32 bit.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just finished a new build on a GAX48DQ6 mainboard, Q8450 (quad core) 8GB RAM and an Asus version of the 9600GT. Having installed the board drivers and latest NVidia graphics drivers my performance index is 1 - based on the graphics card (everything else is 5.9 except the boot drive which is 5.5). I have re-calculated it about 6 times because I couldn't believe it. Does the performance index not work in Vista 64, this card (with the same version drivers) scores 5.9 in Vista 32. I don't particularly care about the performance index, unless it is indicating a problem.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI don't know why but for some reason within the last week or so my xbox360 has stopped connecting to my hp laptop (vista home premium 32bit). I have a 2wire 1800hg gateway, with both the laptop and xbox connected wirelessly (using Intel link 5100/official microsoft wireless connector respectively).
As I say before a few days ago I could access my shared media via my xbox dashboard, as well as via the media center extender. However now it's not working. The 2wire has it's own firewall but I have opened the laptops connections up completely today (although this wasn't an issue a week or two ago?). And I've opened up many ports in windows firewall too.
When I look at the full map in the network and sharing connections window it does indeed show the xbox and laptop connecting to the router, so it is seeing it. However no connection can be made in either direction (i.e. the xbox cannot find any pc's and the pc's media center can't find the mc extender). I've tried numerous things so far, opening ports etc.. but nothing has worked, so this is my last resort!
is there a complete correct way to install vista /windows 7 64bit and keep all of 32bit installed programs and files in there orginal place? Its taken more than a year to get all of the settings and programs to this condition and i now need to upgrade to 64bit so that i can use all of that extra RAM.! any ideas on the way ahead would be most
