I just purchased an Acer AM5620-E5512A. It is Quad Core Intel. I am trying to install an extra hard drive an IDE 320GB Western Digital HD. I am running Vista 64-bit the computer is recognizing the drive as a floppy drive how can i fix this?

I have an "-Acer Aspire 5100-", I've owned it for a two years. I am having some problems with it, three types to be sure:
- RAM
- Graphics
- Overall Performance

I have severe lag while playing games, Online or Offline. my fps goes from 70-100 to 1-3.
I've Cleaned the insides, and updated the software.

I hope no one minds me posting this question here but I am at a loss to solve this issue and hope someone here can help. My customer is locked out of her Acer Aspire 3680. She hasn`t used it for a few months and has forgotten the password. I have searched the net for possible solutions and tried everything I came across that appeared to make sense but other than sending the laptop to Acer for them to unlock it at approx ??100 plus postage and VAT

I have done scans using Macaffee, windows defender, disk defrag, and clean up. But nothing seems to help the speed. Does anyone know what i could do. on other sites said about using the eRecovery but not 100% on using it.. any help to get my laptop back to its original state would be helpful 64X2 dual core processor with 1 gb ram. 32bit os vista

View 8 Replies View RelatedRecently i bought a 500gb internal hard drive to put in my computer, it already has one 500gb hdd. I attached it all and its working fine apart from, sometimes it will make a weird scraping noise and im not sure why, it stops after a while. Its only new so i dont know if it will get worse or anything. The thing is i tryed it in my old pc of windows vista 32bit, and its fine. But for some reason on this new pc it makes a scraping noise occasionally. Does anyone know why this is happening? Is there something i need to install for it?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire 5610 running vista, which was upgraded from XP. No problems were encountered during installation. I was able to play cd's and dvd's, until a week ago. Since then I insert a disc and nothing happens, I click on Media Player 11 and it prompts me to place a disc in drive E: When I click on "My Computer" the drive is there but a red circle with a diagonal red line through it appears on top. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drive etc. Still no joy.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi thought its Intel's "diskeepr" fult, so i formated my hard drive, and didn't installing it. then, i tried to install "Need For Speed: Carbon", and the Directx made it all wrong. again - formating. afterwards, i tried to install Counter Strike, and the same thing happend! i thought i just can't play games anymore, but it wasn't it! one of windows updates made it happen also!

The system is totally virus and spyware free, and the anti-virus is not scanning (schedule scan disabled). All Vista updates are installed. Nothing has helped. I've run out of things to disable. I'm running Vista Business SP1, Dual Core 2.2 Ghz, 3 Gb RAM.
I have a ASUS laptop running Vista Home Premium, 64 bit OS. I have several programs that I use but no loner have the insall disks for. Should I have to reformat in the future I would hate to lose them. Here's what I'm thinking: Buy a extrenal hard drive. Seagate, 1Tbit, usb, cost $90.00. Copy my hard drive to it. If I need to reformat. Reinstall Vista from my recover disk that came with the computer. Then copy files from external drive. Bingo. All my old programs would be there and working. Question is: Can this be done?
What file/folders do I need to copy to the external drive?
Is it possible to copy my entire hard drive onto an external hard drive. Vista Premium, all the data, etc. and what would be a good software to accomplish this?

At this stage it seems that Vista has conned me into destroying a perfectly good WD harddrive!I have created a second partion on the hard drive and I am reformatting that, as I write this, but the only formatting option seems to be this NTFS, and that is what I had already formatted the ExtHD to so I think this formatting will be to no avail!From what I can figure I need to format into FAT but I tried a quick format an ex-fat option was there, but the problem was the same. I am becoming more frustrated with Vista, seems I just keep running into things that should be simple and aren't!

But here?s the kicker. If I plug in my old regular ATA IDE drive as the primary master drive, the DVDRW as the primary slave, and leave the SATA drive as the third master drive, I can install Vista with no problems onto the SATA drive. I just have to leave my old regular ATA IDE drive plugged in as the primary master. If I try to disconnect my old regular ATA IDE drive but leave the SATA drive plugged in by itself, Windows
Vista won?t boot.
What is the deal here? How come I can have the SATA by itself as the third master and install WINDOWS XP with no problems and have a workable system, but VISTA doesn?t install. I just paid over $250 for Vista and I have to use this kind of setup to get Windows Vista to work on a SATA drive by itself? This is lame. I want to take that old IDE hard drive out of the box.
Here are my install screens:
First screen: ?Windows is loading files.? bar goes to 100% and the screen advances
Second screen: Black screen with moving green bar and Copyright Microsoft Corporation on bottom. The green bar just keeps moving on forever and doesn?t go to the next screen (which would be the colorful ?Install Windows? dialog box where you choose the language, time/currency, and keyboard, etc.)
when booting up from a vista cd I accidentally had my usb external hard drive plugged in and the drive has been emptied and replaced by windows there are sintimental photos etc on the drive can anyone help me to restore them

View 6 Replies View Relatedi bought a kit for an old hard drive. i got it to work once ealier today, and now it doesn't work. when i plug it into the usb, it will not successfully install. the kit is a rocketfish hd 35, the hard drive is seagate u8 model st313021a. the "remove hardware" icon appears in the tray, but no designated lettered drive appears on the computer.
the hard drive was part of an older tower that i couldn't get to boot. it's strange because just today i accessed the hard drive and located old pictures, music and other files that i hadn't seen in a few years. had i known this would have happened i would have started saving right away. i thought i had it working.
I've upgraded my machine at some point in the last year, where I added a new 500GB drive and moved my C: partition across to it. The previous 250GB drive was left in for additional storage. Just recently (while upgrading my BIOS) I realised that my system was still booting from the 250GB drive even though Windows was on the other disk. There is a fair possibility in the not too distant future that I'll replace the 250GB disk with a larger disk, in which case I won't be able to boot. Is there a safe and reliable way to change it so that the system boots from the 500GB disk?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was starting my computer today (that has Vista), and during the start up process, a black screen came up stating that there was an error opening up my external hard drive and it was checking for errors. After it finally booted up, I went to open the hard drive files, and it was totally BLANK! I then restarted the computer, and still the hard drive is EMPTY! I had ALL my important files in there!
The ONLY thing that looks promising is that when I go to Start then to Computer, it shows the hard drive there, and it still shows that 43GB are free of 111GB of storage (same info shows by right clicking on it and going to Properties). Why would it show this if nothing is on the hard drive anymore? Is there ANYWAY to recover these files again you think???? I NEED those files!!!! Remember that the hard drive STILL PHYSICALLY WORKS. It's just that I cannot access the files on my pc at the time for some reason.......
I just bought and installed a external hard drive. I am fairly knowlegable about computers but this is my first Ex. Hard drive and know very little about there use. So what I want to know is how to save my Family Tree Makers files to it. And once I do that how do I know for sure it is opening from my new drive and not my computer C: drive? View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a sata motherboard with 4 sata data connections on. My hard drive is connected to Sata 0 and my DVD burner is connected to Sata 1. This is all fine. But I want to add another DVD drive. I have connected the power cable to the drive and tried connecting the data cable to Sata 2 and Sata 3, neither of which has worked.
The drive does not show up in the bios no matter how I try. I have switched cables round and ports round - both drives work as do both data cables, as whichever is connected to Sata 1 appears in the bios.
I am in need of re-installing Windows Vista on my laptop. My optical drive stopped working a while back, and a lot of other bugs started happening as well. I contacted HP, (the manufacturer of the laptop I have) and they gave me all the troubleshooting tips I needed, and tried them all. Finally someone just told me to send it in and they would replace the drive since my warranty was still in effect, and I really don't want to send it in. I really need to re-install Vista on my laptop, but have no drive or no CD. What are my options? I would rather have Windows XP, but don't know how I would get it on here either.

If I install windows 7 by booting into Vista, inserting the Windows 7 DVD and run setup.
This way I can assign drive letters that I will want to use consistently in both Operating Systems
I am a little bit confused after reading about installing Win 7. If I boot from Win 7 DVD it will assign the letter C: to its Boot Volume, no matter what drive I choose.
Then it says to assign D: to the start volume. The other letters will be in sequence.
Does that mean I need to put Win & Boot Volume on the same drive as Vista's Boot Volume?
As of now I have First Drive Portioned in to C: and D:
Second Drive Portioned into E: and F:.
I want to install Win 7 on the second drive in part ion 1 which is E:
When I install from Vista I just have to check E: Drive and the Boot Volume
will be on E: too. Hopefully I will have the choice to boot into Vista or
Win 7?
I would also like to give the Drives Names:
Drive 1 Portion 1 Big Vista - Which is C:
Drive 1 Partition 2 Little Vista - Which is D:
Drive 2 Partition 1 Big Win 7 - Which is E:
Drive 2 Partition 2 Little Win 7 -Which is F:
This way I will know exactly which is which, even if Vista calls Big Vista
C and Little Vista D: Also if Win 7 calls it Big Win 7 H:
