Installing Enterprise Edition Revert To Licence, Factory Image On A Partition
Nov 6, 2008
I would like the option to back out of the enterprise edition and revert to my own licence if necessary. When I got this PC it didn't come with any system discs, only a factory image on a partition. I have since created recovery disks for it. Are the recovery discs what I need to restore to the original configuration? If not, what is the correct strategy to take?

Will this option restore your Registry? And all of the factory drivers and programs. I had a virus and I think my registry is screwed up.

my D drive is in red and apparently full. i am not getting the warning sign yet but was curious if I can somehow just delete this drive. yes i know that it is a recovery drive. we do have a recovery disk handy. when i click on it it says "warning this area of your hard drive comntains files used for your PC Recovery. Do not delete or alter....." so if I were to delete it will is mess my computer up? do i really need to back it up to a cd since i already have a recovery disk? is there a way to just keep the drive but not have the full red bar there?

(KB935509 - A software update is available for versions of Windows Vista that include the Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption feature). I am having a problems installing the KB935509 update on a Vista Enterprise system. Windows Updater is always unsuccessful - I have tried many times. I have even downloaded KB935509 & installed manually -it says successful but if I look under Control Panel/Installed Updates it is not listed there and Windows Updater keeps coming back with a request to install. This is very frustrating - I keep going around in circles. I understanding that I will need this update to load Vista SP1 when available. Short of doing a clean install of Vista is there anything I can do?

I heard is is possible under some circumstances to swap a Vista licence back to an XP licence and would like to investigate if it is possible for me to do this. My reasons are the poor networking performance of Vista cf XP and also the fact that none of the MS development systems I am using (VS6 and VS2003.NET) will run on Vista.

is it possible to create a recovery partition in my vista which will be available in the boot menu? my laptop originaly came with XP so it doesn't have one for vista. I still have the 2Gb partition left from Xp but it's now empty after vista installation. and how much space do i need to resize it for that purpose? i'm also thinking of making another recovery partition for windows 7. so i will have 4 partitions: vista, vista recovery, windows 7, windows 7 recovery. i tried to look in the tutorial section but i didn't find any. i guess it's not common.

first of all, il explain what exactly i wanted to do with my laptop which is currently running a Vista Home Premium 32bit. I needed to install an 64bit ver of XP Pro on a 2nd partition and set it to dual boot. My laptop is a Fujitsu-Siemens and has a single WD 250GB Sata HD and my processor supports 64Bit OS. I followed the instructions on the forums on how to shrink a partition and create a new one for the second OS(XP). However, after going through the procedure i placed the XP disk in the tray and booted from it. It was loading just fine then suddenly after i press enter when i was asked to continue to install, it mentioned later that it could not detect any hard drive or that i need to disable any program or whatever. I figured maybe theres a setting in the bios but i found nothing i can do with the HD settings. Im not familiar with Vista so i need to know is there any possiblility to install the XP OS. Also, i was wondering if the manufacturer locked the HD and maybe the only way is to reformat the HD and reinstall everything.

Microsoft in Russia was absolutely lost by conscience. I'm owner of licence Vista Ultimate Box gained in the beginning of 2009. But its mean NOTHING...I cant gain the upgrade-version of Windows 7 for my Vista. In any country except Russia its possible and cost around 160-215 dollars. In Russia if I want to upgrade Vista till Window 7, I should gain the complete licence and price for me is 400-500 dollars. Excellent. Thus these mongrels still dare to say that for us the cheapest prices in the world. Microsoft does all possible to beat off for the licence user desire to be it...

I have just built a new PC and installed Vista Home Premium X64, basically, I am having a lot more software compatibility issues than I expected some with programs I require for work purposes and as such can???t be without. Could someone please confirm that Microsoft are not allowing you to use your purchased Vista licence to temporarily downgrade to XP while the well publicised compatibility issues are addressed?

upgrade to Vista when available.
2. obtained Express Upgrade to Windows Vista and installed it May 07.
3. I have emachines operating system disk called "Windows XP MC version 2005
with Update Rollup 2" which has the following printed on it: Use this disc to
re-install your operating system.
4. computer: 2G RAM, Pent 4, 3GHz, 160G hard drive with about 100G free

I installed "HDD Sentinel" just to check what it was like and compare it to "HDD Life" I then uninstalled it. (Sentinel slightly changed the original icon by putting green bars on the icon). After, I opened My Computer and the Hard Disk Icons were changed (see Capture.jpg). Does anyone know how to revert the changes to the original icon? The "OS (C: " was the only one that had a Windows Vista icon on an image of a hard disk and the rest were the same but without the icon (see os.jpg).

Not sure if there's already a thread here like this but I'll give it a shot. I'm curious what opinions everyone has out there about IE 8 B2? So far I've tried it two times. I installed it a few months back when I still had XP and didn't like it at all. Then, after I upgraded to Vista, I tried it again and still didn't like it, 2 months later. Top it all off, I couldn't revert back to IE 7 as easily. I had to completely do a System Restore in order to do so. What's even worse, is even though I did that, some things were all messed up from the process. So I just ended up re-installing Vista to fix it.
So now I'm completely anti-IE8. I love IE entirely. But it just doesn't seem ready yet. I know they're still working on it and is not due for official release until possibly November, however, is that still too soon? Some features I disliked:
Colored tabs. ew. hard on the eyes, what's going on? keep them all the same. Location bar drop down menu. wayyyy too complicated, and right about where I have my mouse when I click it to select a previous website I entered, a small delete button appears and many times I click that and then realize, crap I just deleted it - annoying. Compatibility Option. Okay what's with this? What are they changing that's making it INCOMPATIBLE with websites in the first place? Shouldn't it be compatible with all websites? Kind of annoying to have to even worry about that.
Features I do like:...............

I want to upgrade from Vista Enterprise/SP1 to Vista Ultimate/SP1 Life is after all more than just work, and i would lke to use Media Center edition. In spite of the fact that I am a Volume license customer with SA and have paid extra for Ultimate media kits, there seems to be no way to upgrade from Enterprise to Ultimate. That is most unfortunate and frustrating as doing a clean Ultimate install may be an option in theory, but, with a mature Enterprise setup, not in practice! I know, by the way, about changing the word 'Enterprise' into 'Business' in the registry., however it makes no difference. The 'upgrade' option remains grayed out and I am being advised to install a 'newer' version?! The exsting setup is Enterprise/SPI and I am trying to go to ULtimate/SP1 which is certainly not older. So why is Vista complaining?

I bought a computer in a silent auction at work. I thought the version of Vista was legit but found out it has an enterprise license. I would like to purchase and install Vista Home Premium but since I have a licensed copy of XP Home, I am wondering if a) I'm entitled to use an upgrade license of Vista, and b) can I install Vista Home Premium over top of the existing enterprise edition and reference the XP license keys when prompted?

I have a DVD that enables me to select any Vista 64 version that I choose based on product key. By mistake I entered the key for "Enterprise" when I wanted "Ultimate". The Enterprise version does not include Media Center and I just want to add Windows Media Center without uninstalling and reinstalling the OS. The install CD will not let me upgrade.
Are there any Registry tweeks I can do to turn on Media Center or change the install to Ultimate?

Have to Remove Student Home Office 2007 Trial(non-commercial)first. Cannot remove through programs, Ccleaner or Revo Uninstaller. Somehow it mysteriously just went from "Trial" to "non commercial Trial"? I also had trouble when I originally installed the triall, they turned it off after a week, til I emailed them and they sent me a link. Probably Reman issue again, they probably thought I already had my trial period.
Getting same 1402 error as many others here...since I cannot uninstall through Programs...going by "Article ID: 928218"....tried 4 times. I should point out this is a reman computer and I did have Office 2000 on here before, before trying out the trial. May be some remnants left over. So there may also be possible remnants of Office 2000. Can I run the Installer Cleanup Utility(290301)after removing Office 2007, or will that mess up other programs? I'd rather not use it. What a mess....I know!................

I've got a production network that I'm test Windows Vista x64 Enterprise on. I'm at my witts end with this problem: I add the Vista PC to the Windows domain. The computer performs the tasks and then tells me it needs to reboot. Upon rebooting it immeadiately drops itself from Active Directory (Windows 2003 SP2 R2 based domain).
Oddly, the computer account in active directory is still there. The Vista client drops itself, but the server side thinks everything is fine. What the heck is causing this? There are no issues with IPv4 connectivity. (We don't use IPv6...) The server shows that the PC and the users are connecting to the domain securely, and without issues (pass security audits). The Vista Client (Enterprise x64) just drops itself from Active Directory.
