I have have continuous slow response in loading of web pages since install IE 8.Am running on a 5 meg internet connection and at times loading a simple Amazon page will take 85 seconds. Totally unacceptable when it was instantious with IE 7.How do I return to IE 7 as attempts to do so thru MS site informs me of a 2 hr plus download?

1. Purchased eMachines pc Dec 06 with XP Media Center installed, with free
upgrade to Vista when available.
2. obtained Express Upgrade to Windows Vista and installed it May 07.
3. I have emachines operating system disk called "Windows XP MC version 2005
with Update Rollup 2" which has the following printed on it: Use this disc to
re-install your operating system.
4. computer: 2G RAM, Pent 4, 3GHz, 160G hard drive with about 100G free
(includes a d: drive partition), 250G external hard drive.
Question 1: despite absence of windows.old, is there any way to kill Vista
and re-install XP MC? A clean reformat, perhaps?
Question 2: if it is possible, I need step-by-step. Can you furnish this?
I had Xp on my compurter, I bought Vista home Premium UPGRADE, Help Says I cannot revert back to XP. Previous Versions of Windows had a unistall in Add/remove Programs, I see none in Vista! Very Very Disatified with Vista. My Books have disapeared 3 times in one WEEK , But Vista Mirrors them in internet Explorer and They are there as Favorites, But Not in Mozilla. My Backup program that I used on Xp, 10 minutes before I upgraded to Vista, IS NOT compatible with Vista. So I cannot Retreave Bckups. My only Recourse is to Fdisk and Reformat and Reinstall Xp Via The Full Backup. Microsoft For KILLING Mozilla/ Netscape files so that I may Switch to IE. I am going to polute the AIR by Burning The Complete Package of Vista that I bought
View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed "HDD Sentinel" just to check what it was like and compare it to "HDD Life" I then uninstalled it. (Sentinel slightly changed the original icon by putting green bars on the icon). After, I opened My Computer and the Hard Disk Icons were changed (see Capture.jpg). Does anyone know how to revert the changes to the original icon? The "OS (C: " was the only one that had a Windows Vista icon on an image of a hard disk and the rest were the same but without the icon (see os.jpg).

View 9 Replies View RelatedNot sure if there's already a thread here like this but I'll give it a shot. I'm curious what opinions everyone has out there about IE 8 B2? So far I've tried it two times. I installed it a few months back when I still had XP and didn't like it at all. Then, after I upgraded to Vista, I tried it again and still didn't like it, 2 months later. Top it all off, I couldn't revert back to IE 7 as easily. I had to completely do a System Restore in order to do so. What's even worse, is even though I did that, some things were all messed up from the process. So I just ended up re-installing Vista to fix it.
So now I'm completely anti-IE8. I love IE entirely. But it just doesn't seem ready yet. I know they're still working on it and is not due for official release until possibly November, however, is that still too soon? Some features I disliked:
Colored tabs. ew. hard on the eyes, what's going on? keep them all the same. Location bar drop down menu. wayyyy too complicated, and right about where I have my mouse when I click it to select a previous website I entered, a small delete button appears and many times I click that and then realize, crap I just deleted it - annoying. Compatibility Option. Okay what's with this? What are they changing that's making it INCOMPATIBLE with websites in the first place? Shouldn't it be compatible with all websites? Kind of annoying to have to even worry about that.

I run Vista on a laptop and have a 2nd monitor hooked up via a docking station. I set my 2nd monitor (i.e. not the laptop screen) as my main monitor, however, after every restart Vista always reverts back to the Laptop as the main monitor. How can I stop Vista reverting backto the Laptop as the main monitor? (This happens aven though at no stage have I un-docked the laptop!)

When I got this PC it didn't come with any system discs, only a factory image on a partition. I have since created recovery disks for it. View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been messing around in my BIOS. Installing some faster RAM and trying a slight overclock (2.4 t0 2.7Ghz on a Q6600) and seem to have caused myself several problems. Firstly I tried to push it a bit further on the FSB- from 1200 to 1300-the system wouldn't boot and wouldn't let me into the BIOS. I eventually got round this by removing the mobo battery. I was able to get back into the BIOS and revert to my original oc. However when I booted I got a re register Windows this is not a genuine version notice. I had to 'phone microsoft and get a new activation ID. I'm now back in windows (Vista HP 64 bit) but seem to have a few left over issues. My clock was set back to 2006 and that meant I couldn't activate Gmail etc. I went back into the BIOS and reset the date but could not change the day. So it's 3.19PM on Monday the 22nd of September, 2008. I've tried everything I can think of but cannot find a way to make it Friday, which it is.
Also I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2009. This keeps reporting that my computer is at risk and I need to update. I've updated over a dozen times but it doesn't seem to change and is still telling me it needs to update. These are ther first problems I have noticed. I hope I don't find more. Does anyone have any advice as to how to get my day and date correct and how to convince Kaspersky it's up to date?

1 HP 4050 Laserjet (Parallel connected to Vista 32 Machine above)
Configuration of Printer:
Connected via parallel to Vista 32 machine
Printer is configured for sharing and is installed on both machines
test pages print successfully from both machines
Additional notes:
During printer setup on the Vista 32 machine, I attempted to install
additional 64x drivers, but could not locate them, so I skipped this step.
During printer setup on the Vista 64 machine, the shared printers were
identified successfully, and I added the network printer. I was not asked to
install drivers the way I have in the past when adding a local printer.
Printing using the shared printer on the local machine Vista 32 performs
with normal speeds. Printing from the network computer Vista 64 using the
shared printer installed on Vista 32 is extremely slow. Even typing in print
job changes in the print dialog window takes 30 seconds or so for each key
stroke to register a response onscreen.
I just bought a new laptop a Dell XPS 1330, with Vista. And it is slow in launching everything. Once I'm in a program, it's usually okay, but it takes 5-10 seconds just to open the start menu, or switch between programs, or open a program is more like 20-30 seconds. It's even slower if I'm coming out of sleep mode, it never gets faster, I always have to boot even though I see nothing in the task manager. Is this the way it is supposed to be, and if not, how can I tell if this is a Vista problem or the laptop? My cpu runs at about 3% capacity and my ram is around 50 when no applications are open.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy Vista x64 Ultimate was fast at first, but now after around 6months it has been slower. I have cleaned all Vista components and uninstalled unnecessary softwares/games. My HDD has 70% space remaining and its defragged. I have fast AVG antivirus and when I try to open a new folder, let's say my documents folder, it opens it fast but its all blank white and it keeps loading for like 3-5 seconds and then the contents show up. What's wrong? I expect an immediately folder content showing up especially when I have 3.55 GHz quad core and 8800 GTX T_T

Tools-> manage add-ons-> enable or disable add-ons
under enabled section look for "SSVHelperClass"(java plugin add-on) and highlight then click disable button.
Restart IE and you could see the difference.
Since my CPU is 1333, if I install DDR-2 800 rams, my ratio will be 5:4 or something like that.
1. Will my rams slow down to the FSB of the CPU?
2. If yes, what is the point in installing faster rams if they are slowing down to the FSB of the CPU?
3. If there is a benefit, what is it?
4. If rams are faster, do they somehow increase the performance of the graphics cards? (For, both ATI and NVIDIA make use of the system ram Hyper Memory and Turbo Cache)
5. Wouldn't it be effected by CPU's FSB? Lets say you have a DDR-4 graphics card, and your rams are DDR-2 800, rams are slower than the card, and CPU is slower than both of them.
I purchased my system (Laptop, dual core HP Paviolion dv6700) and installed vista home premium in December 2008. In the beginning system's performance was good but now (within 6 months) it starts so slow. What may be the problem.

They are both in the same location.

Anyways, odd problem to have. After being logged into Winders for a little while, doing some surfing, etc., I'll go to close IE8, click the red x, and it'll just sit there for 5-6 seconds, and then finally close. If I log off and log back on, it'll behave properly, but sooner or later will start to act up again.
Anyone else run into this? I'm running IE7Pro, but I've been running that for a while now and this has only recently popped up.
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ11S, with Vista Home 32. The laptop has a Core 2 Duo T7100 @1.8GHz and 2Gb RAM. I run Office 2007, Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, Corel, etc... Sometimes the machine becomes so slow I almost fall asleep (literally!) while waiting for it do perform a simple task such as opening IE or showing a menu or opening an email message. I should add that my PST has 5.6 Gb. I'd like to reduce its size, although I don't think it is the cause of the slow running, but I need to keep many emails... I have talked with Sony and they simply refuse to let their customers downgrade to Xp. So, besides tweaking (which I don't know how to), what can I do to my laptop to avoid these episodes of EXTREMELY slow running?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am experiencing very slow boot up of Vista Home Premium 32 bit. It takes good 10 - 12 minutes to completely boot up. I am using Dell desk top inspiron with 4 Gb RAM. I did some research and learnt how to filter the event log and diagnose where the degradation occurs. In my case, a lot of degradation found in loading drivers like sound and video. Also AVG resident shield slows down.
When I first turn on the system, black screen with a mouse curser appears for two - three minutes. Then Welcome message appears and again it blanks out for another two to three minutes. Then the desk top appears and the icons are slowly appearing. By the time complete boot is in place - system idle mode, it is ten to twelve minutes.
I'm running a dell dual core with 2 gb of memory and a 200 gig hard drive, with Mozilla Firefox. In the past I have been able to peruse perhaps 15-20 web pages, reduced in size and it hasn't slowed down at all. All of a sudden after four or five windows accrue the computer comes to nearly a stop and it takes forever to load that last page. I have to wait a long time before I can even close the windows.
I have cleared all the temp files and cache, removed cookies and cleaned everything up.
Iīve just built a new PC 4gb ram, intel quad 6600 Asus p5b SE mobo. I installed Vista ultimate on it and itīs taking 5 minutes to start up and it took 5 hours to install COD4! everything is very slow. I installed XP Pro 32 Bit on it.. and it performs as fast as i expected. I installed Vista Home Premium from an Acer recover disk i had laying around 32 bit again and once again itīs quick.
View 9 Replies View RelatedUntil yesterday my internet worked fantastic. I could click on a favorite or my homepage and instantly be on the site. Now, all the sudden whenever I click on a page it takes 10-15 seconds (sometimes more) before the page 'hits'. It will then load as fast as before. The problem is this new 'waiting period' before the page loads. I have a high speed connection with 27795 kbs down and 958 kbs up. I thought maybe my browser had become corrupt somehow so I upgraded to IE8 but still have the same problem. My system is spyware and virus free (just checked twice).

In other words, it's extremely slow from when I turn it on to when I turn if off, you can't use it anymore!
View 9 Replies View RelatedOne game I tried recently was Callof Juarez. A friend brought it over to try and see if it would work after I told him I have trouble getting games to work. I can only find generic Aspire manuals online, nothing specific to my model.
I have tried to see what kind of video card is installed but in my device manager, under sound, audio controllers it only describes the audio cards, no mention of video card. I therefore assume it is a generic card that probably is not capable of gaming, BUT Acer did give me a nice screen saver that shows a clip on gaming, (b-astard-o's)...........
I thought I had asked this before but upon searching I found that I did'nt and could not find anyone else posting about this, so here I go again. I like using Auslogics Defrag, but its taking an absolute eternity to defrag, I tend to defrag after every install of a game and I installed another game this afternoon and its still defragging now, is this normal?? does'nt feel like it
My only thought is and I'm just guessing that would it be at all down to the fact that I have disabled index searching, or even the system restore being on? I'm annoyed at the fact that its taken almost all afternoon to defrag and counting

View 7 Replies View Relatedi have reloaded window last night every think has gone fine and the computer is just as fast as it use to be BUT i have updated my wei and it came back with 5.9 for every think but the cpu which use to be 5.9 but now is 5.4. i then installed cool and quit of the asus driver disc to find that it says it is runing 1300 and not 2600 which is what the cpu is but if you go into the bios it says it is runing 2600 and the clock timing is set to auto i have manualy put in 2600 in on the seting but cool and quite still see it as runing 1300 . like ive said the system does not sem and slower but i would like to now what is wrong. i have update the bios and the cool and quite to the lateist one.
