I bought a computer in a silent auction at work. I thought the version of Vista was legit but found out it has an enterprise license. I would like to purchase and install Vista Home Premium but since I have a licensed copy of XP Home, I am wondering if a) I'm entitled to use an upgrade license of Vista, and b) can I install Vista Home Premium over top of the existing enterprise edition and reference the XP license keys when prompted?
View 5 RepliesI want to upgrade from Vista Enterprise/SP1 to Vista Ultimate/SP1 Life is after all more than just work, and i would lke to use Media Center edition. In spite of the fact that I am a Volume license customer with SA and have paid extra for Ultimate media kits, there seems to be no way to upgrade from Enterprise to Ultimate. That is most unfortunate and frustrating as doing a clean Ultimate install may be an option in theory, but, with a mature Enterprise setup, not in practice! I know, by the way, about changing the word 'Enterprise' into 'Business' in the registry., however it makes no difference. The 'upgrade' option remains grayed out and I am being advised to install a 'newer' version?! The exsting setup is Enterprise/SPI and I am trying to go to ULtimate/SP1 which is certainly not older. So why is Vista complaining?

I have a DVD that enables me to select any Vista 64 version that I choose based on product key. By mistake I entered the key for "Enterprise" when I wanted "Ultimate". The Enterprise version does not include Media Center and I just want to add Windows Media Center without uninstalling and reinstalling the OS. The install CD will not let me upgrade.
Are there any Registry tweeks I can do to turn on Media Center or change the install to Ultimate?
Have to Remove Student Home Office 2007 Trial(non-commercial)first. Cannot remove through programs, Ccleaner or Revo Uninstaller. Somehow it mysteriously just went from "Trial" to "non commercial Trial"? I also had trouble when I originally installed the triall, they turned it off after a week, til I emailed them and they sent me a link. Probably Reman issue again, they probably thought I already had my trial period.
Getting same 1402 error as many others here...since I cannot uninstall through Programs...going by "Article ID: 928218"....tried 4 times. I should point out this is a reman computer and I did have Office 2000 on here before, before trying out the trial. May be some remnants left over. So there may also be possible remnants of Office 2000. Can I run the Installer Cleanup Utility(290301)after removing Office 2007, or will that mess up other programs? I'd rather not use it. What a mess....I know!................

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've got a production network that I'm test Windows Vista x64 Enterprise on. I'm at my witts end with this problem: I add the Vista PC to the Windows domain. The computer performs the tasks and then tells me it needs to reboot. Upon rebooting it immeadiately drops itself from Active Directory (Windows 2003 SP2 R2 based domain).
Oddly, the computer account in active directory is still there. The Vista client drops itself, but the server side thinks everything is fine. What the heck is causing this? There are no issues with IPv4 connectivity. (We don't use IPv6...) The server shows that the PC and the users are connecting to the domain securely, and without issues (pass security audits). The Vista Client (Enterprise x64) just drops itself from Active Directory.

I've been reading a lot in the forum lately but now I have to post as well...I've been trying to get the old Task Scheduler (at.exe) running on Vista Enterprise to have scheduled jobs run indefinitively. Right now, I add a process via e.g.$> at 15:00 notepad.exe The job will start fine on the chosen time but will cease to run after 3 days (72 hours), killed by Vista/Task Scheduler. A look via Start -> All Programs -> Accessoires -> System Tools -> Task Scheduler reveals, that a flag is set "Stop the task if it runs longer than" to "3 days".
Googling for help, I found a KB entry from Microsoft, how to change the default ehaviour via a registry edit (A Task That Is Scheduled with the AT Command May Stop After 72 Hours Win XP/2000). This didn't do the trick on Vista Enterprise altough the registry section exists with the required parameter "AtTaskMaxHours"). Has anyone encountered similar issues on Vista or has anyone been able to overrule the default behaviour from 3 days to an "endless" job run?
(KB935509 - A software update is available for versions of Windows Vista that include the Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption feature). I am having a problems installing the KB935509 update on a Vista Enterprise system. Windows Updater is always unsuccessful - I have tried many times. I have even downloaded KB935509 & installed manually -it says successful but if I look under Control Panel/Installed Updates it is not listed there and Windows Updater keeps coming back with a request to install. This is very frustrating - I keep going around in circles. I understanding that I will need this update to load Vista SP1 when available. Short of doing a clean install of Vista is there anything I can do?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have some Dell laptops (d830, d620, d630) that has problems with the wireless networkcard (Intel Wireless 4965 AGN). Very often it stops to function after the computer has been to sleep. The wireless icon still apears in the bottom right corner with a red cross over it. When you click it it says that it's connected with limited access. The wireless card will not apear when you run ipconfig If you disconnect it will not connect successfully again It seems like it manages to find all availble networks, but you can not connect successfully to any of them.
I have tried to install this fix reagardless that I already have SP1, but this won't install. Probley because it has already been applied. Also tried the Regedit workaround mentioned in the KB. I have set the power option to high preformance, but it still happends when the computer is manual set to sleep.
I would like the option to back out of the enterprise edition and revert to my own licence if necessary. When I got this PC it didn't come with any system discs, only a factory image on a partition. I have since created recovery disks for it. Are the recovery discs what I need to restore to the original configuration? If not, what is the correct strategy to take?

When I try it says that no codec is installed. what I need to download, preferably for free, to either get WMP to play DVDs, or a free player that's not too obnoxious with ads. I tried installing the K-Lite Standard Codec pack, but either I did it wrong or it isn't enough.

I am told I need a license and to get it, I am sent to a website that does nothing. No information on the website is offered to obtain the license other than to go to certain other websites, and pay for the license.
Up until today, I could play the mp3's with no problems. Perhaps due in part in using "Rhapsody" for the first time. My problem is, how and where exactly do I obtain this "license" which should be free, or at least at bare minimal cost for ALL of my mp3's? Not just a select few. I have a Sony Vaio VGC-LA1. Originally it was running Windows XP Media Centre 2005. I upgraded it to Vista Home Premium using a Vista Express Upgrade Disc sent to me from Sony. this included all the relevant updated drivers and applications. A few weeks ago the HDD died and had to be replaced. I've reinstalled XP from my recovery disc, then upgraded again to Vista using Vista Express Disc. However I can't activate Vista as it says its already in use and I require another license. How can I activate it?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have acquired my Vista license in a rather peculiar mode, I will describe it so bear with me (there's a question at the end): I had been looking for a Vista license for a while but most IT shops didn't have any types on stock until I reached three webshops which were offering Vista Home Premium (both x32 and x64, the type that I now run). All of them were advertised on site only with the simple name at a price around 100 and something USD (about 130 I would guess with currency conversion).
I called all three asking for an update quote mentioning my interest in a purchase. Two called me back confirming the price but saying the license there was OEM, therefore it can't be sold like that, only with a system purchased from them, either on the spot or purchased from them less than three months ago. I had no idea what OEM means at the time. The third one however accepted my order and shipped a Vista package, which contained a brief OEM manual, a sticker and the original DVD (with all those cute colorful Microsoft holograms). Of course the package was legit, I put the sticker on my PC, installed it, passed genuine validation & everything. But I still wonder, since this package is obviously OEM and I didn't get my computer from that company anyway, is there a chance I could get in trouble for that? OR maybe the company who sold me the license will get in trouble?
Purchased: New Systemax Computer from TigerDirect.com, Has Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64bit installed. The installed O.S. has a O.E.M. volume license number. The unit came with a Windows O.S. Cd with it's own product key. Can I change the volume license number to the individual computer product key without reinstalling the operating system.? If this is possible how do I proceed?
