Sep 25, 2009I'm testing Windows 7 Enterprise from Technet but we don't have an activation server, Is there any way to activate or should I start over with Ultimate?

Activation Of My Windows Enterprise
May 29, 2008When I try to activate my newly installed Windows Vista Enterprise an error message appears saying: DNS-naam bestaat niet. (in English DNS-name doesn't exist). So I'm unable to activate my Windows Vista. This may result in problems within 3 days.
My vista license is a MS-KISS license.

Mar 26, 2008My laptop came with Vista Home Premium installed. I downloaded a Flash-BIOS update as per advice of my HP Care Centre. After it was done installing my laptop shut off (as I was told it would do). When I turned it back on, I was prompted to enter a Product Activation Key. I entered the Windows Product Key as shown on the sticker on the base of the laptop. The message I received was "The Windows Vista Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for activation" For the record, YES, I am entering the code in properly.

Jun 11, 2008I want to upgrade from Vista Enterprise/SP1 to Vista Ultimate/SP1 Life is after all more than just work, and i would lke to use Media Center edition. In spite of the fact that I am a Volume license customer with SA and have paid extra for Ultimate media kits, there seems to be no way to upgrade from Enterprise to Ultimate. That is most unfortunate and frustrating as doing a clean Ultimate install may be an option in theory, but, with a mature Enterprise setup, not in practice! I know, by the way, about changing the word 'Enterprise' into 'Business' in the registry., however it makes no difference. The 'upgrade' option remains grayed out and I am being advised to install a 'newer' version?! The exsting setup is Enterprise/SPI and I am trying to go to ULtimate/SP1 which is certainly not older. So why is Vista complaining?

May 1, 2008I bought a computer in a silent auction at work. I thought the version of Vista was legit but found out it has an enterprise license. I would like to purchase and install Vista Home Premium but since I have a licensed copy of XP Home, I am wondering if a) I'm entitled to use an upgrade license of Vista, and b) can I install Vista Home Premium over top of the existing enterprise edition and reference the XP license keys when prompted?

Nov 20, 2008I have a DVD that enables me to select any Vista 64 version that I choose based on product key. By mistake I entered the key for "Enterprise" when I wanted "Ultimate". The Enterprise version does not include Media Center and I just want to add Windows Media Center without uninstalling and reinstalling the OS. The install CD will not let me upgrade.
Are there any Registry tweeks I can do to turn on Media Center or change the install to Ultimate?

May 5, 2009Have to Remove Student Home Office 2007 Trial(non-commercial)first. Cannot remove through programs, Ccleaner or Revo Uninstaller. Somehow it mysteriously just went from "Trial" to "non commercial Trial"? I also had trouble when I originally installed the triall, they turned it off after a week, til I emailed them and they sent me a link. Probably Reman issue again, they probably thought I already had my trial period.
Getting same 1402 error as many others here...since I cannot uninstall through Programs...going by "Article ID: 928218"....tried 4 times. I should point out this is a reman computer and I did have Office 2000 on here before, before trying out the trial. May be some remnants left over. So there may also be possible remnants of Office 2000. Can I run the Installer Cleanup Utility(290301)after removing Office 2007, or will that mess up other programs? I'd rather not use it. What a mess....I know!................
Enterprise Drops From Windows AD Domain
Aug 21, 2008I've got a production network that I'm test Windows Vista x64 Enterprise on. I'm at my witts end with this problem: I add the Vista PC to the Windows domain. The computer performs the tasks and then tells me it needs to reboot. Upon rebooting it immeadiately drops itself from Active Directory (Windows 2003 SP2 R2 based domain).
Oddly, the computer account in active directory is still there. The Vista client drops itself, but the server side thinks everything is fine. What the heck is causing this? There are no issues with IPv4 connectivity. (We don't use IPv6...) The server shows that the PC and the users are connecting to the domain securely, and without issues (pass security audits). The Vista Client (Enterprise x64) just drops itself from Active Directory.

At.exe (Task Scheduler) Running On Vista Enterprise
Jul 3, 2009I've been reading a lot in the forum lately but now I have to post as well...I've been trying to get the old Task Scheduler (at.exe) running on Vista Enterprise to have scheduled jobs run indefinitively. Right now, I add a process via e.g.$> at 15:00 notepad.exe The job will start fine on the chosen time but will cease to run after 3 days (72 hours), killed by Vista/Task Scheduler. A look via Start -> All Programs -> Accessoires -> System Tools -> Task Scheduler reveals, that a flag is set "Stop the task if it runs longer than" to "3 days".
Googling for help, I found a KB entry from Microsoft, how to change the default ehaviour via a registry edit (A Task That Is Scheduled with the AT Command May Stop After 72 Hours Win XP/2000). This didn't do the trick on Vista Enterprise altough the registry section exists with the required parameter "AtTaskMaxHours"). Has anyone encountered similar issues on Vista or has anyone been able to overrule the default behaviour from 3 days to an "endless" job run?
Installing The KB935509 Update On A Vista Enterprise System
Mar 23, 2008(KB935509 - A software update is available for versions of Windows Vista that include the Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption feature). I am having a problems installing the KB935509 update on a Vista Enterprise system. Windows Updater is always unsuccessful - I have tried many times. I have even downloaded KB935509 & installed manually -it says successful but if I look under Control Panel/Installed Updates it is not listed there and Windows Updater keeps coming back with a request to install. This is very frustrating - I keep going around in circles. I understanding that I will need this update to load Vista SP1 when available. Short of doing a clean install of Vista is there anything I can do?

Mar 31, 2008I have some Dell laptops (d830, d620, d630) that has problems with the wireless networkcard (Intel Wireless 4965 AGN). Very often it stops to function after the computer has been to sleep. The wireless icon still apears in the bottom right corner with a red cross over it. When you click it it says that it's connected with limited access. The wireless card will not apear when you run ipconfig If you disconnect it will not connect successfully again It seems like it manages to find all availble networks, but you can not connect successfully to any of them.
I have tried to install this fix reagardless that I already have SP1, but this won't install. Probley because it has already been applied. Also tried the Regedit workaround mentioned in the KB. I have set the power option to high preformance, but it still happends when the computer is manual set to sleep.
Installing Enterprise Edition Revert To Licence, Factory Image On A Partition
Nov 6, 2008I would like the option to back out of the enterprise edition and revert to my own licence if necessary. When I got this PC it didn't come with any system discs, only a factory image on a partition. I have since created recovery disks for it. Are the recovery discs what I need to restore to the original configuration? If not, what is the correct strategy to take?

Apr 11, 2009I got a problem with a reinstall of Vista 64 Home Premium. A few days ago I tried to manually force activation of Vista, and I was told the key was already in use. I thought it was due to recently reinstalling it so I just let it go. Today it tried to automatically activate and it failed. The error is the same that the key is already being used.
1. I have no other PC's with Vista on.
2. Nobody visited me recently, and I can't think of anyone I know who would steal the key.
3. I never posted my key anywhere online
What can I do in this situation? When I click a support link in the activation window I am being told support cost 540 Dkr which translates to US$80-90 which is almost as much as I paid for my Vista!

Aug 10, 2009I have a 2 month old HP tx2 notebook. It activated fine when first booted. Used it abouy a month and IE crashed with a BSOD, and upon recovery I have a notice on the bottom of the desktop that it says this copy of windows in not genuine. When I reboot it says I must activate. When I try it fails and the only options are new product key or contact HP. I called HP and they said to use the key off the bottom of the computer which does not work. They then want me to do a complete reinstall which is quite unacceptible with all the work it took to get this new machine loaded to work with.
Can i buy a new license and be sure it is going to take. Buying a new copy of home premium unfair but is way better than all the work I would have to do otherwise. The OS is home premium 64 bit. I would not want to install a new copy because of the driver issues (touchsmart), I just want to use the key. When I try to activate I get: Buy new product key online. Try a different product key Contact Hewlett-Packard to help resolve this proble Have tried option 2 and 3 to no avail.
I would try option 1 if I could be assured it would work without loss of data. HP says to reinstall the OS. They told me Microsoft does not support OEM installs. Why not? There is no phone option. when I try to input a new key I get an 0xC004E003 error. Updates work fine and all my software works as well.The desktop background does not work and it has the not genuine at the right bottom corner. There does not seem to be a count down timer either.
Activation Key Is Still Active From My Other Hdd
Jan 13, 2009I recieved my new hard drive in the mail today and so excited I switched out my 250gb for my new 750gb without reformating or anything. So, now I am not sure what to do because it says my activation key is still active from my other hdd. Oh and if it helps I went from 32bit on 250 to 64bit on the 750. I bought Vista Ultimate in 2007, so I have the RTM version of it.

Jan 9, 2008No this is nothing to do with Piracy and whatnot, my Vista is perfectly legal (and I have the Credit card bill to prove this.). I am on my "1st build" and am currently using the "30 day trial" - the reason for this was that I wanted to be sure that everything ran smoothly before I activated the software, mainly because I was unsure about whether or not x64 would play nice (and I may have had to install x32 instead) It does, and I'm chuffed.
My main Q is, should I activate... and say in 6 months time, I have to do a fresh build , I assume that I will be able to without incident (worst case scenario I have to phone MS, but then I did that with XP and had no problems.) Secondly, should I wish to change Hardware i.e. Graphics card / adding another hard drive (which are about the only two upgrades I'd do to this monster of a machine) after activation, I assume thats allowed ?
Activation Exploit
Jun 9, 2009I just bought a used tablet PC with vista ultimate on it. I have spent the past 2 days updating and putting all of my software on it but now it says there's some kind activation exploit on it and that it will probably kill the OS pretty soon because this is a no-no. Nowhere in the notice did it tell me I could just buy a new serial number. It also gave me no option for removing the exploit.
I want to buy a legal copy and fix the issue but I don't want to re-install everything. Is this possible? (I closed the message and I don't know how to bring it back so I do not know the name of the exploit). Also- the guy who sold me the computer had at least a dozen other used machines all running Vista. There was no old software on the tablet, so I'm pretty sure he put the OS on the tablet (and the exploit). Should Microsoft be notified? He's in the Seattle area, close to the mothership...
Activation On Re-install
Jun 2, 2008I just finished re-installing my full retail version of Vista Home Premium on a different machine and expected activation to fail with a new motherboard and hard drive. But, when I clicked for it to activate expecting to have to phone in for approval since it was on a different machine, it activated automatically. I think this may be related to installing SP1 from a purchased disk from NewEgg and may have confused Windows into thinking it was already activated before SP1 was installed?
I don't think the O.S. is being recognized as valid when I try to download the Media Center Guide. I get a constant error code 13 and can't download the guide. I have been to Windows Update and downloaded a number of post SP1 updates without problem but no go with the Guide. Is there a window site I can go to to make sure my installation is validated? Perhaps after it is properly validated the Guide downloads will work? I installed SP1 from the disk right after the O.S. install without going to Window Update and I think I may have skipped a step where my O.S.
