Windows Media Player That Comes With Vista Enterprise Does Not Include The Ability To Play DVDs

May 26, 2010

It appears that Windows Media Player that comes with Vista Enterprise does not include the ability to play DVDs. When I try it says that no codec is installed. what I need to download, preferably for free, to either get WMP to play DVDs, or a free player that's not too obnoxious with ads. I tried installing the K-Lite Standard Codec pack, but either I did it wrong or it isn't enough.

Windows Media Player No Longer Playing DVDs

Mar 23, 2008

My machine is running Vista Ultimate, and I discovered the other day that Windows Media Player no longer plays DVDs. It used to, but it doesn't now. (Because I don't play DVDs on my computer very often, I have no way of knowing exactly how long this has been going on.) When I try to play a DVD in Media Player, I get the message that "Windows Media Player has stopped working," with the explanation that "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." (It perhaps goes without saying that I have yet to receive any such notification.) I'm provided with no other information about the problem; only a Close Program button that shuts down Media Player. I still seem to be able to play MP3s with Media Player, just not watch DVDs. On a whim, I decided to load up Media Center to see if maybe that would make a difference. While I still can't play DVDs, I at least get a different error message: "Application Failure: A critical Windows Media Center process has failed. Please restart the computer and try again. If the problem persists, contact your hardware manufacturer for assistance."

Windows Media Player 11 In X32 SP1: Cannot Get The Radio Station Streams To Play

Feb 8, 2009

For a couple of weeks now, I noticed that in WM11 for Windows Vista, I cannot get the radio station streams to play. Example:

WM11 | Media Guide | Internet Radio | New Age | Show All |
Whisperings: Solo Piano | "Play".

Normally, the stream would start at this stage. It no longer does so. My first thought was to reinstall WM11. However, I cannot find it anywhere. The MS site refers to the XP version and WM11 doesn't appear in the Control Panel | Programs & Features section. My system: Windows Business x32 SP1 & IE 8 RC1

Cannot Play DVD On With Media Player

May 12, 2008

I got the following message when playing DVDs on Vista home premium with Windows Media Player. The same problem happens to media center. Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card. I can play those DVDs on PowerDVD or VLC player. I installed K-Lite codec. It still doesn't work. It looks like it is not codec problem.

Cannot Play AVIs In Media Player 11

Mar 23, 2008

I know this topic has been covered on the forum, as I've read about problems others are having. I cannot play any avi files in Media Player 11 or Picasa. I have downloaded codecs up the ying-yang and nothing has worked... xvid, divx and a few other bundles reported to work... I can see the video, but no audio. I downloaded Media Player Classic and that works fine, but I would really like to be able to use Media Player 11 and Picasa as well.

Media Player Won't Play Certain Videos

Feb 18, 2010

i use vista 64-bit and the media player that came with it plus a codec package from windows. for the past 2 years i have been very happy with it with no problems what so ever. however now, without downloading any patches, my media player has decided it won't play certain videos. i have some music videos and some films that i have downloaded and they still play just fine. but the ones i have ripped with DVD Fab (i own them btw) have since stopped working properly. they play audio but there is no video. when i play in full screen, instead of getting black like before, i get the same visualisations as if i was viewing an mp3 (the vortex/battery thing)

Window Media Player Cannot Play The File

Mar 24, 2008

Just reinstalled Vista (32) Untimate. Was haveing trouble installing SP1 and needed to get rid of a lot of junk so did a complete new install. Now WMP 11 will not play. Get a msg that says the following "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." Get this msg when trying to play MP3, WMA and WMV's. Worked fine before reinstall. I tried ripping a track and it worked fine but after ripping would not play the file - rip both to MP3 and WMA. Downloaded Winamp and it works fine and plays all the files.

Can't Dvds Play Properly

Mar 23, 2008

I cannot get any dvds to play properly, the picurte is not displayed on any player I have tried, sound yes, picture no. This applies to any video file as well as dvds. I have downloaded codec after codec still no joy and have the Nvidia decoder installed. I know that some versions of Vista do not have the codec in MP11, you would have thouht the full blown suppsoedly super duper version would have. IN the UK we have a law called the Trades Description Act as MP11 is been shipped as capable of playing DVDs and quite clearly cannot on its own without some extra expense plugin, it could be argued that it falls foul of the fit for purpsose clauses in that law as it is not fit puprose on its own.

WMP 11 Not Play DVDs On A New Ultimate Install

Jul 11, 2009

WMP 11 will not play DVDs on a fresh install of Vista Ultimate 32-bit. Gives the usual "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card" error. VLC plays DVDs just fine. All updates are installed up to SP2. Video card is ATI radeon 9600/9700 mobile with latest drivers (note, Vista WDDM drivers gave same error as did the "windows update" recommended driver - finally used catilyst to load newest 4/27/2009 drivers 8.593.100.0)... No other decoders or codecs are installed.......

Computer Systems No Longer Include :Recovery Media

Apr 30, 2008

BRING BACK ALL CD FOR COMPUTER , TECH SOME TIMES CANT RESTORE OR REINSTALL HARDWARE IF THE CD IS NOT HERE.BRING BACK THE MEDIA/RECOVERY CDS.RECOVERY MEDIA Most computer systems no longer include "Recovery Media" (Disks or CDs used to restore your computer system to it's factory shipped state). Many do not even include Operating System disks. This is not specific to systems purchased from any one company, but now standard practice throughout the entire industry. However, many manufacturers include software on the hard drive that creates recovery media for you. This allows burning your own set of recovery CDs or DVDs - all you need is the blank media.Inclusion of such a recovery utility varies by manufacturer and model; not all manufactures and models include such a utility. For those that include such a utility we recommend you create your own set of recovery media after completing the Windows installation. In other words, right after you startusing your PC!If you fail to do this and encounter a difficulty in the future you may not be able to properly restore your computer. Some manufacturers may have physical recovery media available separately for purchase; consult your owner???s manual support information section foradditional information. Systems that do not come with a CD/DVD burner may still include Recovery Disks - please check the manufacturer's specs. This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. Windows Media Player 11

Feb 10, 2009

First of all I'm on vista home basic, second of all wmp was already installed on my pc when I received it. Lastly, it's always had this problem When I click on a mp3/avi/any wmp associated file it will launch the file audio, I can hear it BUT wmp doesn't open, I have to manually launch wmp before I can stop the file or do anything else.

I googled the problem many times and tried solutions but never got anywhere. I reset the assiociated files, I've checked for updates , I've run out of ideas. I was even going to unistall and reinstall it. Yet I can't seem to get a vista version from the microsoft webpage ?! So I don't want to uninstall it and loose it, or even try using wmp 10
instead, I'm worried it will mess up my machines default settings and/or media center!

Is Windows Media Player(v11) On Slow For Anyone?

Mar 20, 2007

I have vista basic and windows media player(v11) is slow as crap. after the window appears it'll take about 20 seconds to load the media that's available(just to get it to a point where it'll respond. then after I select something it lags for about 10-20 seconds and then a 'media changing...' message appears at the bottom left and it'll be about 20 seconds to play that file. so from start to wmp playing something takes up to a minute. wmp11 on my xp puter(512mb hyperthreaded) blows wmp11 on my vista laptop(gig ram amd 64 x2) out of the water. is there something like some setting or something I can change to make things run faster? I like wmp11 and don't want to dl winamp.
