Mar 31, 2008My Confusions :
1.) A week ago Brink said SP1 was not available through Windows Update( WU ), while at the same time .Joe indicated it was available in website and WU. ( I read those threads .)
2.) Someone said something about driver not upgraded and therefore it was not offered in the WU for those users. Does that mean I'm one of those?
3.) .Joe said that there are 2 prequisites for installing SP1 (it's from the same thread I mentioned .)
a) First prerequsite includes updates to the servicing stack, which I never saw it in WU.
b) 2nd includes updates required to reliably install or uninstall the service pack, which I never saw in WU either.
4.) We all saw the " horror stories " posted in this forum regarding problems during installing and after installing SP1. It got me worried.
5.) I still do not see SP1 offered in WU, optional or otherwise.
Windows Update Failure: The File Or Directory Is Corrupted And Unreadable
Jun 18, 2008I am running Vista Home Premium 32 bit without service pack 1 and have been trying to download windows updates for about a month now. I get a Windows Update error message 8007000b. I ran the command prompt as administrator, typed in fsutil resource setautoreset true C:. And I get a message saying “The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable”
I have tried to download updates 1 at a time, turned off my anti virus And tried manual updates as well. My Error checking is not working “windows can’t check the disk while it’s in use” And schedule disk check does not work. The System File Checker tool gives the message “windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them”. The windows memory diagnostic tool runs, reboots and does not display any results
Failure To Update
Mar 11, 2009my computer is a Toshiba Satellite, and it will not install updates or shutdown properly. When I try to shut it down properly it says configuring updates I left it like this for a couple of hours and it made no difference. I am writing this thread on it now, and it runs perfectly other than the updates. It has flashed me a Blue Screen twice, and has never had this problem before. I need to know any Solutions before I completely wipe this partition and install XP.

what I found was microsoft office SP2 was the cause of the problem..the trusted installer was missing in the windows servicing folder....
DirectX Update: Failure
Nov 8, 2008There is what looks to be a November 08 update to DirectX, but on three different machines I have not been able to get the dxwebsetup.exe to work. Every time I run the executable I get “Installing components: Initializing…”, then “Setup could not download the file. Please retry later or check network connection”. The redistributable is still showing Aug. 08.

Mar 23, 2008My vista desktop did an auto restart on its on last night and began 'updating' I left it on and went to bed. This morning it was stuck on 'shutting down' I did a hard reset and restarted in save network mode. After the normal dos info on safe mode setup I got a screen saying 'configuring updates'. After about 15 minutes it went to shutting down and its been over 2 hours shutting down. I have no idea what 'updates' it is trying to install. My guess is whatever came out on Tuesday as I use auto update/download. I am using an older xp machine to write this question. The vista machine was bought with vista ultimate installed in March of 07. It is a dual core intel 2.4. I have had no problems with update until today.

Nov 29, 2009I've been working for days to speed up Vista performance, have been through all the usual performance tweak tutorials (appearance/performance, start-up apps, etc) and am frustrated... In general Vista is not too bad performance-wise, but is very slow to open Internet Explorer and to find the first web page (OK after that), and is verrry sloooow to bring up or close Visual Studio 2008. Intellisense and typing in a project is nearly unusably slow. I have to type a few characters, wait several seconds for intellisense to finally pop up, type a little more, wait again (and again and again.) This box is my new dev box and I'm going to drop it over a cliff rather than work with it the way it is (not! But the temptation is there...)
In googling around, I don't see a lot of other folks having similar issues so I'm assuming that there is a setup or config or software or services or 'some' type of issue that is specific to my machine that can very likely correct the issue and get me back on track. I don't know where to start however, and am seeking some advice on where to start. As stated, I've already disabled all the startups (start up menu, msconfig) that I can, I think, and have already played with the appearance settings, and have even tried raising the priority on visual studio to 'Real Time' via the task manager And yes, things are better than they were, but the slow response time for Intellisense and typing in VS08 is killing me

Slow After Installing Visual Studio 2008
Apr 6, 2008after installing visual studio 2008, it takes 20-30 more seconds for the windows orb to come after the progress is shown at boot. A black screen with a busy cursor is shown for 20 seconds and then the orb comes. The Visual Studio 2008 is installed without the SQL express option.

There is a lot written about Windows Update error 80070643 having specifically to do with restarting the Office Source Engine for Microsoft Office 2003. HOWEVER, I do not have Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my system and this is not my issue! I am quite fearful at this point that I am vulnerable to all sorts of attacks considering that I haven't updated Vista for about 6 months now. This is not good.

Visual Studio 2008 Pro Cab1.cab Has An Invalid Digital Signature
Feb 7, 2010I am trying to install Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition (download from Microsoft Dreamspark: https://www.dreamspark.com/Default.aspx) but every time, I get cab1.cab has an invalid Digital Signature.
This install of Vista was a completely clean install less than a month ago, but it has never been quite right, so I may do another clean install. Everything has been an argument with the computer, a battle of errors and solutions. If I knew the next clean install would be better, I would do one immediately.
I have searched the internet for about a month now, and have tried every solution I have found. I have checked that cab1.cab does indeed have a valid digital signature, it does, and so do all the others I have checked. This has happened with two downloads of the same file iso file. One of them has been tried and tested with this machine before the clean install and several other computers, all immediate successes, so it is not a corrupt iso file.
I have followed every solution on the two Heath Stewart blogs and several more.
I have:
Run sfc /scannow. No problems. Defragmented my hard disk. Copied the files to hard disk, run off DVD, run from iso, and repeated with other iso. Disabled all CRL checks using setreg.exe Downloaded the CRL list although my internet has been connected all the time. Done a System Restore, same problem. Used signtool.exe on cab1.cab and others, digital signature validated successfully. I am getting so annoyed now. I am a programmer, and have not written a single line of code for over a month now! Please do not tell me to use Notepad and csc.exe! I cannot even continue with Project Euler: Project Euler
If I thought that I would be able to uninstall it and not cause massive problems later, I would try Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2.
Windows Crashes After I Install Update From Windows Update
Feb 25, 2010I am updating my computer and I thought it was finish but my computer restarts and I encountered the death blue screen. I can't switch into safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with Command Prompt and Last Known good configuration. I don't know how to solve this problem because I can't get into any of the modes and even I inserted the installation disc I can't still see any repair computer or what. It will just turn to blank screen with space at the upper left after if i will insert the installation disc.

Mar 21, 2009The last time an update was installed was in January..since the next time i was offered an update, Windows Update or any of the programs that use windows update fail to update. Also i can't download the updates manually..standalone msu installers also dont work.. windows defender, IE8 installations also fail to update. And unfortunately i have deleted the recent system restore checkpoints before i knew about this problem. Windows Update gives error 80070002, i have tried the "solution" to delete temp update files, and all other solutions i could find on the internet. Windows defender gives the same error.
The updates can be downloaded from windows update, but cannot be download (not even manually in .msu package) I also lost many shortcut files of MS Office (the icon turned white and they lost their target). Some shortcuts of 3rd party programs are also lost (which were supposed to be in c:windowsinstallerlabla I have Windows Vista Home Basic with SP1 (SP1 came with the ssytem when i bought it). This is very weird. I have no other choice than to reformat drive and use recovery disk.

Last night i saw a movie near my PC and left it open (most of the time i locked it when not in use), when suddenly right in front of my eyes - the PC locked him self! It was like i locked it myself - but alone! So, i run AVG scan, W Defender scan and another anti-spy program scan - nothing.
My UAC is on all the time. My Fire Wall is on all the time. I am the only user on this PC, and no one know my password. I check in the Event Viewer and there was no unusual activity. the locked activity was mentioned but in the normal way, as if I was the one that did it. Is it Vista failure? Or maybe someone broke into my PC?

Due to the failure of one server, Windows Live ID logins were failing for some customers, and this increased the load on our remaining servers. We took the problematic server offline and brought a new server into rotation. We identified the root cause and fixed it in less than an hour, but it took a while to resolve the logjam that had built up in the meantime, and to redistribute the load to normal levels. May 1, 2009Having a massive problem here with vista! Windows explorer decided not to respond and then said that it required restart, while in the process of restart explorer the laptop crashed with blue stop error screen. Afterwards, new startup screen came on saying the vista is unable to load and to chose either Startup repair or Resume Windows normally
now when I tried to use startup repair it was unable to fix problem and then tried to resume normally but this showed only a blank black screen. What is happening and how can I fix this?! Im trying to do this without formatting if possible since there are still important documents and programs that I need to backup!
