Windows mail. Just sent a question but did not specify I was talking about Windows Mail. Where do the sent items go to when they apparantly are deleted/emptied from folder? Does not appear anti virus software causing the problem.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI haven't used Windows mail (only used to read news groups) in some time, when I went to use it this morning I received this error message; Folder could not be opened Windows mail could not open this folder. The possible causes are not the problem. I have 2 gig memory and it was working fine when I only had 1 gig of memory. Disk space, I have over 90 gig of free space.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIn my previous email program of choice, Outlook Express, I used to beable to select the "to" function within the email message template and see a display of contacts that included the FOLDERS. In Windows Mail, the same action calls up ALL the contacts and NO folders. ALthough I can select multiple contacts from the Windows Contacts folder and through "action", install them in the "To" pane of an email message, I cannot jump from folder to folder to, for example, select contacts within another folder whom I wish to CC on the same message. The "Action" sequence always generates a new email template, posting any selected contact or contacts to the "To" pane.
I do not wish to create GROUPS and then go through the convoluted process of calling up the group in the "To" pane, and then deleting the ones I don't want. Needless to say, this feature was critical to my email flow and organization. Am I missing something? I have checked every forum and group I can. Others report the same issue without resolution. One forum individual said, "That's the way Windows Mail is".
I have had this laptop (from new) about 8 months and have just discovered that the recyle bin is empty - I have never emptied it. That was yesterday when I noticed. Today I deleted some files and the recyle bin was immediately empty. How can I change this please? I KNOW it's just trash but occasionally I have deleted the wrong file so I like to be able to have one more chance before it's gone forever. I am using Vista home premium

View 5 Replies View RelatedBy default, the Inbox shows the field "From" while the Sent folder shows "To". When I create subfolders for the Inbox (eg. Business, Important, Personal, etc) again it shows "From" as you'd expect.
However, if I try and create a subfolder for my Sent folder, instead of having the field "To" it now shows "From". I don't need "From" as it's obvious it was sent from me! I've tried making changes by fiddling around with the columns, but unfortunately any changes I make in this Sent Items sub-folder will impact the Inbox which I don't want changed.
The folder list is no longer displayed in the left hand pane in Windows Mail (apart from Local folders, Inbox and Newsgroups). In order to navigate to my other folders, I have to click on Local Folders, when they are displayed in the message pane. I can then open any folder but cannot transfer files to the folder from the inbox.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have 2 Dell XPS desktop PC's, both with duo 2.66 processors, 240 GB hard drives, and running Vista Home Premium. When going into Control Panel | Power Options, one of the PC's is showing all the sleep options for a battery powered laptop, and that's a LOT of options! I've attempted to set them all so that neither the PC nor any of its peripherals ever go into sleep mode, but periodically it still seems to go to sleep! I never have similar problems with the PC which Vista recognizes as being only a desktop. In order to fix this intermittent problem, first I have to let Vista know that the PC is not a laptop, but I haven't been able to find the parameter to do this.

The original folder contained recent email files.I have done numerous searches but alas no avail to a former location for my Windows Mail original folder. View 4 Replies View RelatedOkay, here it goes. I first started using Windows Mail when I bought a new computer with Windows Vista back in January '09. I have four email accounts which I transferred over from an Outlook Express backup that I did before getting rid of my old computer. Windows Mail automatically set up a set of folders (Inbox, Outbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items, Drafts and Junk E-mail) for each account, each with a different color scheme, similar to Windows Live Mail. My hard drive crashed in June and I'm just now setting things up again with the new hard drive installed. I tried restoring my email accounts from a backup I had but now Windows Mail won't automatically create folders for each account. Instead, I had to set up separate Inbox folders with message rules for each account. However, all the accounts are still sharing the Outbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items, Drafts and Junk E-mail folders. Is there a way to set up a set of these folders for each account using message rules? And also, why did Windows Mail do that automatically for me the first time using it - could it be that the information came from an Outlook Express backup originally?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen using Windows Mail, I have a series of folders and sub-folders on the left side. It used to be that the sub-folders were always closed. Now, for some reason, the sub-folders are always open when I open up Windows Mail.
This is regardless of how I exit Windows Mail. In other words, when I'm all done with Windows Mail, I leave it with all sub-folders closed, but the next time when I open and use it again, I find that all the sub-folders are open again.
I cannot empty my deleted items folder in windows mail, can anyone suggest what the problem may be and how I can fix it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedEmails are sent and arrive in my Windows Mailbox fine. I then create a folder and drag them to that folder no problems. When I create a subfolder however, and start dragging emails into the subfolder I find that the 1st email is fine but every subsequent one has been corrupted. That is to say that in each case the email content is erased and replaced with a duplication of the 1st email in that subfolder. Go figure. The email titles don't change so if you open the subfolder you
wouldn't realise what has happened.
It is only when you open each successive email that it becomes apparent that the content of every email has become identical. *Windows Mail folders: 1 email duplicates itself over all others in a folder, thereby erasing email content of all others* This was previously posted by two others and I have exactly the same problem.
I wish to store my emails on a secure virtual drive I have created on my laptop. When I attempt this in Tools/Options/Maintainance/Store Location the window will only allow me to store the files on my main disk drives (C & D) how can I bypass this and store them to a secure drive?

To protect this data I will not connect it to the internet. From what I read, if I buy a computer running Windows Vista where Vista is pre-activated by the retailer, then Vista may still try periodically to re-validate on line. If it fails then the computer will be made unusable by nag messages or worse. In other words Vista, including Vista SP1, is not usable on a computer that does not connect to the internet. Shop assistants have told me otherwise. can you clarify because I can afford neither the time nor money involved in choosing the wrong operating system.

I've gone onto Windows Mail with Vista and everything seem to be fine for the first month deleting mails en masse until now. I've got 299 items in my deleted folder and I can't empty it other than
by deleting one at a time.
Recently when logging on to my e-mail account I lost all my saved messages, the only one left were in the inbox. Now every time I log on Windows Mail generates a "Recovered Messages" folder filled with lots of empty folders and no messages.

Under earlier versions you had the option of keeping messages in the delete folder when existing. I can't find that option in the current version of Windows Mail.

has no problems. I also have a Dell Studio 1555 laptop (running Vista 64
Home Premium) connected to the router by wifi and it works fine most of the
time. Every once in a while, maybe every 3 or 4 days) the lapto shows that
it is disconnected from the network. When I try to reconnect it never
reconnects. The only solution I have found is to reboot and then connection
to the network always is fine.
I have a second router and tried it and have the exact same problem so it is
not the router. I have seen some items on the web which indicate that Vista
might be the problem but I have not seen any solutions.
