Safely Remove USB Thumb Drive :: Light Stays On Drive
Sep 28, 2009Before I remove a USB thumb drive, I click the green check from notification area; I click the message that appears next to the green check, Safely remove USB Mass Storage Device - drives (F:, G; then a dialog box appears that states, This device can now be safely removed from computer.
The light on the thumb drive, however, stays lighted. I previously followed a procedure where the light would go off on the thumb drive when I did a Safely Remove.
Should the light on the thumb drive go off before it can be safely removed? If so, how do I get the thumdrive light to go off?
Using A Thumb Drive As A Floppy
Dec 27, 2007Can you use a thumb drive as a bootable floppy? For such things as updating the BIOS? I don't have a physical floppy drive and it appears that without it you can't update the bios. Never had a thumb drive before and their really cheap now. Just wanted to know how do you go about making it bootable and such if this is doable!

May 1, 2009I have a San Disk 4GB Cruzer Micro thumb drive with U3 on it. I had orginally gotten the drive when I had a HP that was running Windows XP. It worked fine on that computer. Well the XP machine took a crap and was replaced with a Compaq that is running Vista Home. The drive was NOT inserted with the HP crashed. Now when I insert the Thumb drive into a usb port it lights up and shows in "my computer" as an Audio CD with a drive letter of "H". The Launchpad does not start and the password screen does not come up either. The directory of the drive only shows 1 file (which does not open) and there was aprox 1000 files on it before. San Disk has been no help and I have not been able to find anything on the internet that has helped. Oh did I mention that I have very little computer knowledge, .
I normally would not be to ticked about this but all the files on the drive are family photos, photo's of hunting trips etc. I know my fault for not saving them to a CD and relying on a thumb drive but I thought they were more reliable than this. Here is a little twist, I have another Sandisk thumb drive that was used with the XP machine but this one works on the vista machine! I havent been able to try the drive that I am having trouble with on another XP machine as I dont have access to one (work switched all computers to vista). I dont know if it is a formatting issue or what but I can not figure it out.

Jun 8, 2008I have noticed that even after being told it is "safe to remove hardware" the light on the thumb drive doesn't go off and the next time I put it into the USB drive of my Vista machine, it always says that the drive needs to be scanned and fixed. If it was just one thumb drive, I would think it was the drive, but I get this with all of them, I have three Dane Elec drives, two Sony, a Memorex and a SanDisk Cruzer. Is this a bug that hasn't been worked out yet, or is there something I am missing?

Mar 26, 2008Well after reading up on Dynamic Drives (vs. Basic Drives) I thought I would check into changing mine. Well I don't seem to have the choice. If I right click on the drive while in Drive Management, I don't have the choice to change the drive type to Dynamic. I looked at the help file and it says you can't do that with a SCSI drive. Well I checked mine and the system reports my drive as a SCSI drive despite it being a standard SATA drive. Any ideas about how this happens? It's a Baracuda 500GB drive (can't remember the make right now, I'm blanking on it).

Jun 10, 2008I have upgraded from Windows XP Service Pack 3 to Vista on a Toshiba Qosmio G35-AVA600 which has two 80GB SATA hard drives. In Windows XP the drive was seen as one 180GB hard drive. No problem. After I installed Vista the second drive is not showing and I can't format it from disk management services because it is not shown.
The wierd thing is that I am not missing any files, but perhaps I had not used any space on the second hard drive, therefore I wouldn't be missing any files. Also, after installing Vista I checked the BIOS and it does not see my second hard drive (it lists second hard drive and says "None"), nor does My Computer but it is there as I have made no hardware changes. All I did was upgrade from Windows XP Service Pack 3 to installing Windows Vista. I have the latest RAID drivers from Toshiba which was updated after I installed Vista. The latest BIOS was installed from Toshiba website BEFORE I upgraded and it WAS listed in the BIOS. I've read the many threads on second ATA hard drives but no one mentions that their BIOS does not recognize the drive as well as Vista.

Aug 3, 2007Ok this is really starting to irritate me i am beginning to remeber why i always use ASUS boards! Anyway i am up and running but on a crappy 20G Maxtor b/c my BIOS won't recognize the SATA drive. I have the SATA controller enabled and i have tried all 4 connectors with no luck. Updated BIOS still no luck. Windows won't see it either. Tried installing the Nvidia drivers of the support disk did not think that work an well it didn't. Actually i'm sure it's the stupid Nvidia chipset but i updated it and still no SATA action.I have never seen a modern board that did not recognize SATA drives automatically i have tried 2 different drives a working Samsung and the new EXCELSTORE/Hitachi and in tandem as well.On a lighter note i already have her OC'ed at 2.5Mhz on a whole 512 MB of RAM........One of my sticks was DOA teach me not to buy RAM i am not familiar with.AMD Opteron 1212 Dual core/ASRock ALiveNF6G with a Nvidia 6100/nForce430 chipset.

basically the original CD DVD/RW drive was 1st coming up with "your CD doesn't have the correct drivers" i was thinking well hows that work when its in device manager and u can boot this CD to get to this stage o_O...............
Bios Configured Boot To Cd Drive Before Hdd
Apr 10, 2009Anyone had any experience bypassing BitLocker (basic mode) using the recovery console (i.e., booting to the Windows DVD or rescue CD)? Based on the documentation, seems like it would work (provided BIOS is configured to boot to CD/DVD drive before the HDD). Having said that, would M$ allow such an obvious attack vector? I don't have a machine w/ a TPM right now, so I can't test this myself.

Mar 23, 2008I like the simplicity of Paint, even with it`s limitations. But the one draw back that is really frustrating is its low dpi resolution. When I try to print image on to a larger format, usually paper poster, the image just does not hold up. The pixel becomes distorted and image is unrecognizable. I want to be able print my drawings on to much larger mediums. Whats the solution? Is there an upgrade version of Paint. Or can anybody give me an other solution. I already know about Photoshop, Corel etc...but I am a simple illustrator.

Dec 30, 2009The C drive is the drive that hold all my programs, the D drive is for extra backup. Yesterday my laptop was showing me an error saying I'm low on memory. I thought that to be odd as I haven't really installed anything. So I uninstalled programs or software that I didn't need or used. Today no matter what I uninstall, and that has been quite a bit, the error keeps popping up saying that I have no memory left. Then it showed me I had 18 MB left and I went back to work. Feb 25, 2009Sometimes when I install drivers I get the message that my BIOS is out of date (including updates from AMD) if I go to the Phoenix site it says go to the motherboard manufacturer or run Biosagent if you use this you pay for the update but you do get this info so is it worth e-mail gateway support, using the boisagent or just leave well alone.

The problem is that when he starts it he gets to the screen where he can choose to enter BIOS. 9/10 times he can't do anything from there but 1/10 times he can press delete and then it says "loading bios" but it freezes there (he waited 30 mins nothing happened). Sep 19, 2008I've been messing around in my BIOS. Installing some faster RAM and trying a slight overclock (2.4 t0 2.7Ghz on a Q6600) and seem to have caused myself several problems. Firstly I tried to push it a bit further on the FSB- from 1200 to 1300-the system wouldn't boot and wouldn't let me into the BIOS. I eventually got round this by removing the mobo battery. I was able to get back into the BIOS and revert to my original oc. However when I booted I got a re register Windows this is not a genuine version notice. I had to 'phone microsoft and get a new activation ID. I'm now back in windows (Vista HP 64 bit) but seem to have a few left over issues. My clock was set back to 2006 and that meant I couldn't activate Gmail etc. I went back into the BIOS and reset the date but could not change the day. So it's 3.19PM on Monday the 22nd of September, 2008. I've tried everything I can think of but cannot find a way to make it Friday, which it is.
Also I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2009. This keeps reporting that my computer is at risk and I need to update. I've updated over a dozen times but it doesn't seem to change and is still telling me it needs to update. These are ther first problems I have noticed. I hope I don't find more. Does anyone have any advice as to how to get my day and date correct and how to convince Kaspersky it's up to date?

Total Memory Available 3.3GB With 4GB Physical Memory Under Windows 7 64 Bit
Nov 29, 2009I had 4GB physical memoryon the PC. With Windows vista 32 bit, available memory is shown as 3.3GB. I asked and was told that only under 64 bit windows, will the available memory be 4GB. When I upgraded to windows 7, I chosed 64 bit, but the available memory shown in the system is still 3.3 GB. Why is this and is there a way to make the full 4GB available? It's possible that my video card is using RAM instead of its own RAM. If I install a video card with its own RAM, will the full 4GB be available?
