Visual C++ Installation - Cannot Read Data File

May 10, 2009

I am having installation problems with a Polish/English Multimedia dictionary. At the start of install I get a pop-up advising that the program needs to install MS Visual C++ 2005 SP1 to run properly. When I click OK it commences the installation of Visual C++ but does not complete the configuration stage before the installation of the dictionary software starts.

The dictionary installation then continues without problem ok but when I try to run it I get an error message that the program cannot read the data file and that I should reinstall again. Also, I note that Visual C++ has failed to install.

The software is Vista compatable and does install ok (including the Visual C++) when I tried it on a on a Vista x86 latop. I have tried installation with UAC disabled, Norton Internet security disabled, even tried installing it in safe mode with a hack to run Windows installer. I have run all installations as Administrator.

Also tried a separate install of Visual C++ 2005 SP1 and also the 2008 version but the dictionary software does not recognise either. To get the 2005 version installed I had to first install the base pack and then the SP1 version, but then I have no idea if it has installed properly.

My laptop is an HP Pavilion dv 3510nr and OS is Vista Home Premium x64 and I bought it about 4 weeks ago in the US. Maybe there is a running service that is conflicting with the software installation, I have no idea.

DVD Drive Fails To Read Data Discs

Jan 20, 2009

I am having a quirky issue with my DVD drive and hopefully someone will know where to start. It seems that the drive will read CDs (opening them in iTunes) and music DVDs (playing in Mplayer), but the system completely hangs and freezes when trying to load a data disc. Specifically, the system will continually try and open the DVD (spinning away) and cause serious lag to the computer. When trying to eject the DVD, it will then cause the computer to freeze and require a reboot.

The data discs that I'm using are all programs that I've previously loaded on my XP install, so I know the discs aren't corrupt. I'm also running a 32 bit version of Vista, so I'm not worried about 64 bit compatibility issues. The drive is a Lite-on (DH-20A4P) IDE based drive, set as Master on the cable. There are no other devices hooked to the IDE cable, and the cable is also brand new (came with motherboard). Here's the steps I've taken thus far to diagnose the problem -- with no fixes working.

- Downloaded and installed newest drivers for the DVD drive
- Flashed the DVD drive firmware with most current version
- Uninstalled then reinstalled DVD drive through Device Manager
- Disabled autorun feature
- Checked connections from drive to motherboard

The drive obviously is working properly since I'm able to play CDs and DVD movies/music. It might be worth noting that I used this same drive to install Vista, but perhaps the updates horked my drive? I'm thinking this is a Vista software issue, but can't think of anything else to try. I'm also hesitant to wipe and reinstall Vista for such a small issue.

DVD Cannot Read The Installation DVD

Mar 26, 2008

I am running Windows XP media center edition and have just bought an upgrade DVD to Vista. I have 2 DVD players on my machine but neither of them run the DVD. The only file that appears visible is a readme file and that says "This disc contains a "UDF" file system and requires an operating system that supports the ISO-13346 "UDF" file system specification."

When I boot from the DVD drive with the Vista DVD in it it starts the installation but the product key I have only allows for an upgrade and tells me I have to launch it from my current operating system. I am tearing my hair out at this stage.

File BootBCD : Error Occured Read The Boot

Apr 9, 2008

I ran windows update and the updates failed, I have sorted that out by stopping one update but now the computer wont boot without the vista disc being there. On start up everything is ok, it gets to verifying DMI datapool and I get a message something like File BootBCD - an error occured while attempting to read the boot config data ox000000f. I have run windows start up repair & this says it cant find a problem. I have used bootrec /scan and it returned 0 windows installs, /rebuild & Fixboot did nothing, I havent tried FixMbr cos I dont understand what that does and I dont want to make the problem worse - so long as I have the cd in I can ignore when it says press any key to boot from cd & it starts but why do I have to have the cd in? I tried one system restore but that made no difference, it seemed to say boot info wasnt part of the restore & I cant see anywhere to say I want that included but thats another question!

Add A Second Data File To Outlook 2007?

I have 2 accounts on my laptop running Vista Home Premium and Office 2007. One for me and one for my wife. Currently she can't see any email received using my account. The goal is to see all email messages both for her and me. Data files were stored in different locations C:Users<me>...Outlook.pst and C:Users<wife>...Outlook.pst. Well we couldn't see inbox of each other while we are sharing the same email address. I wanted to add her data file to my Personal Folders and my data file to her respectively. When I try to add the data file I've got the error: "The file C:Users<wife>...Outlook .pst cannot be opened". I check that I do have Full permissions for this file.

Symantec Antivirus CD:Do Need Just The .EXE Installation File?

May 15, 2010

I have a Symantec Antivirus CD. However, the computer I want to install the antivirus on has a non-working disc drive, so the CD is useless for it, and I was going to put the disc in another computer disc drive, then transfer its contents to a USB flash drive, then use the USB on the computer I want to have the antivirus program. However, it's disc drive nor its USB ports work.

So what I thought was, using the disc on another computer, and attaching the disc contents in an email, or on megaupload. However, I can't attach folders. I have to attach files, not folders, like a .exe file for instance. So I was only able to send to myself, online, the .exe installation file of the Symantec Antivirus program I want to install on the computer. Is the .exe installation file all I need for the program?

DATA PROTECTION Fraud Antivirus: Data Protection Is A Counterfeit Application Which Pretends To Be A Legitimate Security Tool

May 15, 2010

Data Protection is a counterfeit application which pretends to be a legitimate security tool. It is also from the same rogue family as Digital Protection, Your Protection, User Protection, Dr. Guard and Paladin Antivirus. The trojan based software starts its activities as soon as it installs onto your computer. Malware has no ability to detect and terminate the parasite. It only gains that user lose their vigilance and would buy a registered version of Data Protection application.

This is a fraud and dangerous for your computer. Behind an offer stands bad people who will use your money for malicious intentions. This application is not worth spending your money. As any malware this one will scan your computer automatically and will show fake results. You should ignore it. Do not fall for this blatant scam. Data Protection can also redirect your web browser to deceptive web pages that advertises “full” version of the security tool. Do not buy it, but choose decent anti-spyware application and terminate Data Protection upon detection. - the conclusion is that Malware bytes does remove it,, you need to download the lastest malware byte or update the one you got. Application Installation, File "not Found"

May 8, 2008

I run and rely on Xara Xtreme Pro graphic software. I've used various versions for over 10 years and currently run v3.3 very successfully on my Vista Ultimate 32 bit machine. I get a number of errors at 99% install: these inform me that the files
which reside in c:/program files/common files/xara are "not found".

When I then try to run the installed program I get an "internal program error 2625.k.me.ps". If I then try to run v3.3 I get the same program error! To get back to a working version of v3.3 I've had to do a disk image restore.

I've disabled my AV (AVG Pro), spyware (Spyware Doctor & Windows Defender) and closed WinPatrol for good measure (it monitors registry access attempts). there is nothing there which I could imagine would cause a problem. I've even installed as an administrator but there's no change in the errors thrown up.

Adjust Visual Effects

Jun 10, 2008

The Windows Experience Index was 2.0, held down because of "memory operations per second." So I just added two 1 GB memory modules. Now the score for Memory is 4.6 (yay!). But the score for "Graphics" is still 2.4. I went to "adjust visual effects" and clicked "adjust for best performance." And so my screen looks ifferent now--I gather this is "Classic Windows," as opposed to "Aero." But the score is still the same: 2.4! What do I have to do to make it go higher?

BioShock & Microsoft Visual

Nov 28, 2008

I just recently bought a new computer, and a few days ago I decided to install a BioShock demo through Steam. Everything went right just until I decided to try the demo for the first time. In the loading process, I see BioShock logo, and then the screen goes black and nothing happens: no visual, no sound, nothing, and I have to close the program / process.

I saw in Steam board, BioShock section, advices to solve some problems, and one was to uninstall the Microsoft Visual C++, and the game would reinstall them again automatically in the reinstallment process. The problem is that the game won't install nothing at all, and, in truth, not even starts, cause it goes all black just like I said previously.

Few questions here: a) I can't remember right, but it seems my computer already came from the store with two versions installed of Microsoft Visual C++: Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (it didn't said the version, but I presume it was x86) and Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x64).........

Visual Master Messed Everything Up!

Aug 27, 2009

I've been "using" this forum for a long time, as a guest. I finally decided to register My problem is, I downloaded and tried to use Vista Visual Master (v1.0.2) to change my boot logo as mentioned in this forum. I also had to change the input languge to en-US. It didn't workout anyway. After closing the program i realised that my explorer settings have been changed (While browsing locally, every single folder opens another window.)

As well as my OEM info beeing deleted. So I opened the Folder Options to change the settings to the default position. I clicked Apply then OK. I logged off and on again and opened Computer. I double-clicked Local Disk and it opened another window. So I decided to download the theme program again. I downloaded it but i encountered an error saying that windows has blocked the destination (which is the Temp. folder) and now i can't even save a file I downloaded from the internet. I think this is a self-protection behavior becouse of the changed settings. P.S. I also tried to reset folder and desktop options from regedit.

Alright, I Have Visual Issues

Mar 18, 2009

This is my issue. I installed Vista Home Premuim 32-bit and at first everything worked fine and looked how it should. Then i purchased driver detective. I have a dell with the sigmatell audio and nvidia graphics. I updated all the drivers it said were out of date, but there is one that i've downloaded and didn't automatically install, so I manually stuck the driver files into the folder specified by Dell, specifically the R144920 folder. Now when I load Vista it looks just like xp. no black toolbar, no glass windows, just your basic classic windows look. I tried to go to to colors and appearances to switch it back to the vista look and it's not even an option anymore. I've tried everything I know to get it back to the vista look, set aside another whole system restore, which I really don't want to do again( just got all my programs installed and registered, took 1 whole day) but nothing has worked.
