Data File Size Limits?
Nov 6, 2009Does Windows live mail have the 2GB data file limitation that OE had or has it been improved? Did some Googling but can't locate an answer.

Tab Size Name Data Modified
Apr 24, 2008I'm using Windows Vista. Whenever I create a new folder, It has "tabs", like "Name Date Modified Type Size", which are not spread out to the length of my window by default; I need to do it myself each time. I was wondering if I could set the length of each "tab", to be created automatically. I hope I'm getting my point across fine. Oct 12, 2008when saving Gif files they are saved in a filesize of bytes (58 bytes,62 bytes) it keeps changing, and when opening the file it doesn't show anything. what could be the reason of this? and yes i told the person to try and save with .gif in the end of the file name but it's the same. could it be protected gifs or something?

Jan 26, 2009My computer has three (3) physical hard drives. Two (2) of them with one or two logical partitions and the smallest drive without any partition. ALL partitions are listed in the "Virtual Memory Paging File" window.
The question is this; should I set just one (1) partition as my page file, or should I set ALL listed partitions (Main and Logicals) to be "Managed By System"? or; set all but one to "No paging file" and set the smallest drive for the "Virtual Memory Paging File"?
Drive 1 is 750 Gb partitioned in 200Gb (Main)/200Gb (Logical)/350Gb (Logical).
Drive 2 is 500 Gb partitioned in 250 (Main)/250Gb (Logical).
Drive 3 is 160 Gb not partinioned (no Logical).
Have found lots of information and suggestions on setting "Paging File Size" but none mentions anything about the logical partitions. I currently have them ALL set to "System Managed Size" and it reports a file size of 141000Mb allocated. I guess this is about 10% of the total disk capacities?
File Size On The Hard Drive Zero In Downloading
Aug 30, 2009Everytime I download any type of file from the internet using either mozilla or internet explorer, the file size on the hard drive is zero! I've even changed the file save location and still the same. The only thing that works is when I click on download, instead of clicking save, I click open or run.

Mar 23, 2008I am using Vista Business on my laptop, and I have downloaded the extension that lets me search my Lotus notes emails also. The problem is that this seems to lead to an ever-increasing mail file in Lotus. I am now at a 10 GB (!!) mail file, and it seems to be growing every time I use the desktop search. this not limited to Vista, btw, other people have the same problem under XP. Has anybody seen this before, and if so, is there a solution to this? Obviously, at some point I will run out of HD space...Sorry if this is the wrong forum. If so, where should I post this?

Jan 3, 2008I have 2 accounts on my laptop running Vista Home Premium and Office 2007. One for me and one for my wife. Currently she can't see any email received using my account. The goal is to see all email messages both for her and me. Data files were stored in different locations C:Users<me>...Outlook.pst and C:Users<wife>...Outlook.pst. Well we couldn't see inbox of each other while we are sharing the same email address. I wanted to add her data file to my Personal Folders and my data file to her respectively. When I try to add the data file I've got the error: "The file C:Users<wife>...Outlook .pst cannot be opened". I check that I do have Full permissions for this file.

I am sure that there is someway to take the tracks from these files but I knew that html are internet files! May 10, 2009I am having installation problems with a Polish/English Multimedia dictionary. At the start of install I get a pop-up advising that the program needs to install MS Visual C++ 2005 SP1 to run properly. When I click OK it commences the installation of Visual C++ but does not complete the configuration stage before the installation of the dictionary software starts.
The dictionary installation then continues without problem ok but when I try to run it I get an error message that the program cannot read the data file and that I should reinstall again. Also, I note that Visual C++ has failed to install.
The software is Vista compatable and does install ok (including the Visual C++) when I tried it on a on a Vista x86 latop. I have tried installation with UAC disabled, Norton Internet security disabled, even tried installing it in safe mode with a hack to run Windows installer. I have run all installations as Administrator.
Also tried a separate install of Visual C++ 2005 SP1 and also the 2008 version but the dictionary software does not recognise either. To get the 2005 version installed I had to first install the base pack and then the SP1 version, but then I have no idea if it has installed properly.
My laptop is an HP Pavilion dv 3510nr and OS is Vista Home Premium x64 and I bought it about 4 weeks ago in the US. Maybe there is a running service that is conflicting with the software installation, I have no idea.

May 2, 2008I inserted a new, blank 1GB USB drive into laptop. Vista Home Basic promptly asked if I wanted it to be used for ReadyBoost. I responded "Yes". Subsequently when booted-up, Right-Click Computer Advanced System Settings - Advanced tab - Performance (.... virtual memory) - Settings button - Advanced tab - Virtual Memory Change ... button.
It shows "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" is ticked: "Paging file for each drive:" C: System managed F: (the USB stick drive): None
If I untick the "Automatically manage .." and select the USB stick drive, it shows only 103MB available; this figures, because the USB stick drive "F:", shows a "ReadyBoost.sfcache" file of 870,401kB, created at the time of the latest boot-up; thus it seems to be creating or refreshing the paging file on boot-up.........

Feb 22, 2009New to Windows mail. I type and view screen using Ariel size 10 but when I print out mail I get size 12. I can't find a way to change it and it's annoying.

Mar 23, 2008While browsing files and folders I've noticed something extreemly annoying. You can see the size of individual files in the Size column but you cant see the folder's contents size. This extreemly frustrating and I cant seem to find where I can enable that function. I know you can scroll your mouse over folders one at a time and a window will apear and you can see the size then, but thats just inconveniant for what Im doing. I need to be able to glance at multiple folder sizes constantly.

Windows Size
Feb 6, 2009In the past few weeks most of the windows will not keep either size and
position in the screen, nor will they keep the way they are suppose to be
viewed, they were keeping it since I installed Vista.
I can no longer use the restore system, since it has been too long since the
problem started, I thought that a simple rebooting as it used to work,
would this time around, but it did not. I even runed a CHKDSK /R on all of
my HDD
How could I fix that
BTW I did not installed any hardware or software around the time that the
problem began, and I rebooted when I installed the lastest Windows Update,
since it required it
Font Size
Jul 29, 2009I edited the registry and either modified or deleted a line
regarding font size.
Since then all my html messages use size 12 in Windows Mail, Live Mail, or
Yahoo Mail.
I can specify the use of a different size, but as soon as I type anything,
the size reverts to 12.
I can change any other attribute such as face, bold, etc. and they all
work.
I would like to reinstall Windows Mail but I understand that's not possible
as it's inseparable from Vista.
I've run sfc /scannow and there are no problems.
The only solution that seems possible it to fix or replace that registry
line I screwed up.

Sep 15, 2009Incoming email is difficult to read because of age and font size. Have checked out ideas on Goggle and Windows "Help and Support". Either I'm too thick or the suggestions are no longer applicable. I'm using Vista, IE 8 and Windows mail.

This is useful for people who want high resolution desktops but find it hard to read small text (without sitting really close which is bad for eyes). I know there's a DPI setting in Vista just as there is in XP, but it's not the same as Font size.

After a while, for no apparent reason, the "large" desktop icons setting produces some smaller ones also. Specifically it seems to be web short cuts. Some are large but some are much smaller, ie 2 icons which are identical (both web shortcuts) are randomly different sizes.
