Adjust Visual Effects
Jun 10, 2008The Windows Experience Index was 2.0, held down because of "memory operations per second." So I just added two 1 GB memory modules. Now the score for Memory is 4.6 (yay!). But the score for "Graphics" is still 2.4. I went to "adjust visual effects" and clicked "adjust for best performance." And so my screen looks ifferent now--I gather this is "Classic Windows," as opposed to "Aero." But the score is still the same: 2.4! What do I have to do to make it go higher?

Mar 5, 2010I have a digital signature and the e-mail I send out is signed but not encrypted. People that use Windows Mail (in Vista) have a problem replying to my e-mail. A requestor comes up telling them that they also need a digital signature which they do not want or need.This requestor can be turned off and the reply can be sent if you go into Tools and uncheck sign this e-mail or something like that. It gets very annoying to have to do this every time they reply to a signed e-mail. These people are old and do not handle change very well. Is there a way they can uncheck this item so that they do not need to do this each time they reply to a signed e-mail?

Jul 1, 2008I have upgraded to a Vista Premium PC and am using the latest Movie Maker.On XP, for me to edit videos it was basically add 2 levels of brightness and that worked but with Vista, as i increase brightness, the contrast starts to 'bleed' with white turning yellow etc. I updated my camera (fuji finepix S5000) and even tried some free effect packages but to no avail, same problem. Has anyone had similar problems? Is there a way to make the XP version work under Vista?

Feb 16, 2009My monitor is set at 1152 X 720 pixels. The default is 1440 x 900, but that makes everything so super tiny that I can't see text too well. Text size is set at default or standard. The Windows dialog boxes are all cut off so that at least one third of them cannot be seen. From using old Windows OS systems in the past, I can guess at what is unseen and just use the tab key to select "Ok, Cancel, and Apply".
But some boxes, for example, the "Sound Theme" dialog box has a whole section below of selecting sounds for events and I cannot see any of it.
Here's the clincher. Just to adjust my sound theme, I set my monitor to the microscopic 1440 x 900 setting and still cannot see the dialog boxes. The text size set on default.
What settings are these boxes viewable?
I should point out that my Sister and a couple of friends have
the exact same problem.

Mar 23, 2008Well im very new to windows mail, in fact only a few hours, and trying to set up the email has proven to be a real headache.On outlook express, my husband and i had seperate email accounts, we logged in to them seperate and for some reason i dont appear to be able to do this with windows mail.I put all our info in as you do when adding an account and did this twice one with my details and one with my husbands (pop3, smtp email address etc) when i opened up windows mail, all the mail was going in to one box and not serperate. I changed it so we had to enter the password each time to login thinking this might open it up as serperate, no. how i get round this, i know there must be a way, but im getting so frustrated with it now, i cant see what im looking at, ive been trying for so long.

Mar 23, 2008 I run Vista Business 64-bit ("clean" install a week ago) and am having troubles with some of the built-in games..... I can't click on buttons in dialog-boxes within these games. I can dismiss the dialog by clicking the X, but not when it's asking if I want to save the game. In this case i need to use the keyboard to focus and click on a button. * Menu flickers rapidly. When clicking on one menu, all menus shows and flicker. I see mouse hovering effects on the wrong spots. I.e. the card next to the one I have my cursor over.
In minesweeper I can't click on any of the buttons in the first column. All other buttons work just fine. I see the "button down-effect" but nothing happens. What is the common denominator of the mentioned games and how can I fix it? My drivers are up-to-date and I have not experienced any other kinds of input/graphics issues with any other apps/games.
Stop Those Annoying Registration Boxes That Won't Go Away
Feb 19, 2007Have you recently installed a system utility or a productivity application such as Adobe Photoshop or Macromedia Dreamweaver and have been bombarded with registration messages that pop-up every time your start the application? Even when you check the box and tell the application never to remind you ever again?
This happens to me all the time and is very annoying. The culprit of this problem is... you guessed it, UAC!
Your application keeps asking you to register because the registry key that it checks to see if you should still be harassed into registration is never getting set thanks to UAC. When I check the box or hit the Never remind me again button the registry write gets virtualized because the app tried to write to a part of the registry a standard user does not have access to. This is a feature of UAC and it does a great job of redirecting the registry write so the application does not crash out. However, since the application is not aware of this virtualized write location it keeps checking the registry value of the key in the normal location. Since the application has read only access to that location the key will keep getting virtualized every time you check the box and is why the registration boxes keep popping up.
How do you get out of this mess? Real simple, just run the application as an Administrator ....
Font Size In Form Boxes/fields
Jun 9, 2008I just upgraded to a new computer with Vista , IE 7 etc..and I ran across a small problem..and I can't seem to find anything in the "Help" on IE or Vista , so I was wondering if an expert could give me some insight to a solution... ** How do I fix the font size in "boxes" on web pages..
for example the 2 boxes on Google page ..."Google Search" .. "I'm Feeling Lucky" and other small "boxes", like the boxes when you fill in a form online...also...the box where you enter text in the search area When I first started to use IE7 it was fine..then somewhere along the line the size went really small..
Text Cut Off In Options Windows / Dialog Boxes
Feb 10, 2009recently I've just been noticing a lot of text being cutt off at the end, or even cutt of vertically when it goes to a second line. I've posted about this on a couple other forums but had no success fixing it and my google searches aint produced much either. I thought this was just winamp messing up at first but then i noticed it in itunes as well and now i keep seeing it everywhere, in some webpages and a few other apps. Heres a few examples. A while back i had some problems with a load of fonts being deleted somehow so that vista started using some other ones instead. in the end i fixed this by copying all the missing fonts from my vista laptop over to my desktop. Dunno if this is what has caused my current prob but might have something to do with it.

BioShock & Microsoft Visual
Nov 28, 2008I just recently bought a new computer, and a few days ago I decided to install a BioShock demo through Steam. Everything went right just until I decided to try the demo for the first time. In the loading process, I see BioShock logo, and then the screen goes black and nothing happens: no visual, no sound, nothing, and I have to close the program / process.
I saw in Steam board, BioShock section, advices to solve some problems, and one was to uninstall the Microsoft Visual C++, and the game would reinstall them again automatically in the reinstallment process. The problem is that the game won't install nothing at all, and, in truth, not even starts, cause it goes all black just like I said previously.
Few questions here: a) I can't remember right, but it seems my computer already came from the store with two versions installed of Microsoft Visual C++: Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (it didn't said the version, but I presume it was x86) and Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x64).........
Visual Master Messed Everything Up!
Aug 27, 2009I've been "using" this forum for a long time, as a guest. I finally decided to register My problem is, I downloaded and tried to use Vista Visual Master (v1.0.2) to change my boot logo as mentioned in this forum. I also had to change the input languge to en-US. It didn't workout anyway. After closing the program i realised that my explorer settings have been changed (While browsing locally, every single folder opens another window.)
As well as my OEM info beeing deleted. So I opened the Folder Options to change the settings to the default position. I clicked Apply then OK. I logged off and on again and opened Computer. I double-clicked Local Disk and it opened another window. So I decided to download the theme program again. I downloaded it but i encountered an error saying that windows has blocked the destination (which is the Temp. folder) and now i can't even save a file I downloaded from the internet. I think this is a self-protection behavior becouse of the changed settings. P.S. I also tried to reset folder and desktop options from regedit.

Mar 23, 2008I bought vista ultimate 32 for my new build and I have had nothing but problems. When trying to install 3 different games, i get an error when it is "configuring visual c++ 2005 redistributable. i am very angry that microsofts own plugins dont work with their own operating system and I must pay $60 to have them fix it. I am not going to pay them to fix their own problem. I have spent $180 on 3 games and NONE of them work...

Mar 18, 2009This is my issue. I installed Vista Home Premuim 32-bit and at first everything worked fine and looked how it should. Then i purchased driver detective. I have a dell with the sigmatell audio and nvidia graphics. I updated all the drivers it said were out of date, but there is one that i've downloaded and didn't automatically install, so I manually stuck the driver files into the folder specified by Dell, specifically the R144920 folder. Now when I load Vista it looks just like xp. no black toolbar, no glass windows, just your basic classic windows look. I tried to go to to colors and appearances to switch it back to the vista look and it's not even an option anymore. I've tried everything I know to get it back to the vista look, set aside another whole system restore, which I really don't want to do again( just got all my programs installed and registered, took 1 whole day) but nothing has worked.

My program is working properly when I execute from visual, but when I use just the executable, the program crashes. Apparently, the error would be in the file glee.c but I use the last version. There is no probleme with XP. I work on vista 32 familial premium edition SP1, with visual 2005 SP1 for vista. Has someone already had the same kind of probleme?
