Windows Aero problem? I've set my appearance style to Windows Aero, and it's worked pretty well, but lately, I've been having some minor problems. The special fading effects of Aero aren't appearing. When I click on "Minimize" on a window, now the window does not "move" or "fade" to the taskbar, it just abruptly disappears to the taskbar.

I also have 2 gb memory , 2.66 GHz, My resolution at the moment is 1024x768. I have a 19 inch widescreen (dell). Here are some pictures that might help you tell me what my problem is........

The Windows Experience Index was 2.0, held down because of "memory operations per second." So I just added two 1 GB memory modules. Now the score for Memory is 4.6 (yay!). But the score for "Graphics" is still 2.4. I went to "adjust visual effects" and clicked "adjust for best performance." And so my screen looks ifferent now--I gather this is "Classic Windows," as opposed to "Aero." But the score is still the same: 2.4! What do I have to do to make it go higher?

I have upgraded to a Vista Premium PC and am using the latest Movie Maker.On XP, for me to edit videos it was basically add 2 levels of brightness and that worked but with Vista, as i increase brightness, the contrast starts to 'bleed' with white turning yellow etc. I updated my camera (fuji finepix S5000) and even tried some free effect packages but to no avail, same problem. Has anyone had similar problems? Is there a way to make the XP version work under Vista?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently got a new computer with Vista and I was looking forward to using the newest version of Movie Maker (6.0). *But I can hardly use it because every time I add an effect, like fade in or fade out for example, Movie Maker immediately crashes!* It doesn't seem to matter what files I am using, .wmv, .jpg, whatever, it still crashes when ever I click on an effect.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got an Sony VGN-BX197XP laptop that I've upgraded to Windows Vista Ultimate. Since then I've encountered some strange display-related issues:
1) I could only boot into Aero about 50% of the time. The rest of the time I forced onto the Standard theme with no Aero option. Since installing Vista SP1 I can't get Aero at all.
2) When not running in Aero mode I can't get the Windows Media Player to play video files, nor get a Perfomance Index.
3) If I plug in an external monitor I can't get a picture on the laptop monitor but I *do* get a picture on the external monitor and it runs Aero 100% of the time. It will also play video files and give me a performance index.
I have read many of the forum posts regarding custom favicons not
appearing as shortcut. I understand how to change an icon but I used to
be able to drag a web address to my desktopp and have it appear as the
custom favicon of that site. Notebook was restored by IBM and now
dragging or any other method I have read in forum has solved the issue.
Any thoughts? If I want to create a custome icon (I have the address
for just the icon) where is it placed. I pasted in shortcut properties
but then shortcut is directed to favicon page of that website. Thanks
for any help.

The wife has her Vista 64bit box which uses dial up set NOT to check for and automatically DL updates because it is not online always plus user account controls are turned off. Updates are installed every couple days when available while she is at work by me. Because these are disabled pop-ups keep appearing about checking setting and such when I know what the setting are!! Is there a way to keep these notification pop-ups from coming up?
Evertime these things come up the wife gets all paranoid and is calling me to come check because the thing crashed once and now the warning pop-ups or whatever are getting her all bent out of shape even though I tell her to ignore them and they will go away. We know what the settings are and do not need the stupid pop-ups telling us that something is not set the way the damn system thinks it should be!
Have a problem with the game stuttering constantly, totally unplayable. Am running it in administrator mode. Can play standard BF2 fine - seems wierd. Anyone else had similar problems

I've logged on to a Server 2003 AD domain and the mapped drives that are usually connected via script aren't visible in 'Computer'. My first thought was perhaps some sort of incompatibility between Server 2003 group policy (or script) and Vista Business but when I was creating my recovery disks, I selected create ISO and when browsing for a location, the usual mapped network drives were available. So it appears that the recovery software can see my mapped drives (and therefore the OS must be able to see them) but I can't see them in the OS under 'Computer'. Is there something I need to turn on or off?

The name on one is: {8fe23f09-822e-47f1-a18a-6c217d3715ac} The other is {fb188761-d295-4c64-ab73-e81bf66b0f24} If I click on these and open them, there is something inside with the file type of "security catalog" I have no idea what these are, where they came from or whether I'll do some kind of harm to my computer by deleting them. This happened to me one other time where these things started appearing. Eventually I accumulated dozens of them. I was having other problems so ended up doing a system recovery, reformatting the drive, and they stopped appearing, but now have started again.

I did not encounter any serious issue, however my special folders are duplicated in the Windows Explorer. For instance in my user folder I have two Documents folder, one pointing to C:UsersyannickDocuments and the other to D:UsersyannickDocuments. C:Users is a junction that points to D:Users. My media files are duplicated as well in Windows Media Player.

My Recent Files item seems to have lost its special attributes and the right-click menu is now just a standard one, with no option to clear the list (if I want to do this, I now have to go to my roaming profile and delete the shortcuts manually). What caused this, and how do I fix it? (I searched for a sample of tooltip text like 'See the disk drives' in the registry, but nothing came up)

And can you guess how many processes show up in TaskManager? 26. ONLY TWENTY SIX. My IE8 starts up lightning fast and swings by all sites except videos, for certain sites w/FlashPlayer & Videos I enable CompatibilityView which aligns those older sites to IE8.
Applications startup as if they were already loaded into Memory, faster than in WinXP. Who knew? It feels like quad-core at 4GHz, seriously. Everything is momentary as if it were loaded from RAM This OS is still a failure, however, versus WinXP. Are you shocked to hear "failure" after my praises, do I contradict myself? No. Because most people are far from my tenacity and just by education, hobbies and profession I alway stune up things to perfection. My cheap car leaves far more expensive models wondering what rocket had just passed them on LIE Expressway. I enjoy tinkering with technology.
It took me 2 weeks (?) to tune up Vista beast to be a polished fast, bug-free beast. It's more convoluted than was tuning WindowsXP. I spent several days in Registry, GroupPolicies, SecPolicies, filesystem digging out and blatantly renaming & moving system files no one is supposed to touch.........
When I R-click on my C:drive in Computer, I see an option labeled "Special Permissions", but it doesn't seem to be available. What are Special Permissions, and if they're important for anything, how do I enable them? Logging on as Administrator produces the same effect. Speaking as a user of Windows since its first release, I find Vista with its UAC, Permissions, and the need to repeatedly confirm every action I tak to be frustrating as hell.

My question is this: Can any HDD be turned into = an eSATA drive by housing it an enclosure which has an eSATA port or is = there something special about SATA drives?
