i plugged in my headphones into my cousins laptop jack port thingy and vista popped up with a notification near the clock saying somethings being plugged into the jack port this doesnt come up on my laptop though. whys that? i have a fujitsu siemens amilo p1505 (or something like that) laptop intel dual core t2050 1gb ram etc...using REALTEK HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO sound or something
View 6 RepliesI have no sound coming from my speakers. I don't know of any specific trigger. A friend ejected my iPod and walked off with it, but that's the only action I can think of done on the computer for a while. Looking in the IDT Audio panel it says the following:
With no headphones in - it shows that I have a pair plugged in my middle jack.
With headphones on the left (mic) jack - it shows a mic plugged in and nothing else
With headphones in the middle - it shows both headphone jacks as filled (the one on the right shows up as filled too)
With headphones on the right - it shows both headphone jacks as filled (the one on the right shows up as filled too)........
I have read many of the forum posts regarding custom favicons not
appearing as shortcut. I understand how to change an icon but I used to
be able to drag a web address to my desktopp and have it appear as the
custom favicon of that site. Notebook was restored by IBM and now
dragging or any other method I have read in forum has solved the issue.
Any thoughts? If I want to create a custome icon (I have the address
for just the icon) where is it placed. I pasted in shortcut properties
but then shortcut is directed to favicon page of that website. Thanks

The wife has her Vista 64bit box which uses dial up set NOT to check for and automatically DL updates because it is not online always plus user account controls are turned off. Updates are installed every couple days when available while she is at work by me. Because these are disabled pop-ups keep appearing about checking setting and such when I know what the setting are!! Is there a way to keep these notification pop-ups from coming up?
Evertime these things come up the wife gets all paranoid and is calling me to come check because the thing crashed once and now the warning pop-ups or whatever are getting her all bent out of shape even though I tell her to ignore them and they will go away. We know what the settings are and do not need the stupid pop-ups telling us that something is not set the way the damn system thinks it should be!
I have a HP Pavilion DV6330 Laptop which I have recently performed a system recovery due to an unrelated problem.The system works fine now but I keep getting a message from HP to register on my screen,I've register three times and when I select the option of 'do not remind me any more'-the message keeps appearing,its so annoying does anyone have a solution please.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm new to Vista (used to XP) and playing around a bit. I've logged on to a Server 2003 AD domain and the mapped drives that are usually connected via script aren't visible in 'Computer'. My first thought was perhaps some sort of incompatibility between Server 2003 group policy (or script) and Vista Business but when I was creating my recovery disks, I selected create ISO and when browsing for a location, the usual mapped network drives were available. So it appears that the recovery software can see my mapped drives (and therefore the OS must be able to see them) but I can't see them in the OS under 'Computer'. Is there something I need to turn on or off?

The name on one is: {8fe23f09-822e-47f1-a18a-6c217d3715ac} The other is {fb188761-d295-4c64-ab73-e81bf66b0f24} If I click on these and open them, there is something inside with the file type of "security catalog" I have no idea what these are, where they came from or whether I'll do some kind of harm to my computer by deleting them. This happened to me one other time where these things started appearing. Eventually I accumulated dozens of them. I was having other problems so ended up doing a system recovery, reformatting the drive, and they stopped appearing, but now have started again.

View 9 Replies View RelatedBattery is 100% charged, After 2 days in ac power it shows 98%, plugged not charging. Then if I use the battery for a while less than 95% and if i plugged it in ac power, it starts charging and become 100%, fully charged. After two days it show 98%, plugged not charging.
So it is charging, but not holding the charge for some days. Battery replaced with a new one. Laptop is still under waranty. I am getting 2 hour 20 minutes battery backup. Would like to know is it a hardware or vista problem?
During the first auto backup attempt, I forgot to plug the external HD into my new HP Pavillian running Vista Home Premium 64 bit OS and so the back up, of course, failed. So I figured I'd try a manual back up; however, instead of selecting the external HD (option was not available cause the drive was not plugged in) I selected Drive E where I store my documents. The backup begn but once I realized what was happening I stopped it. Well it left 3 items in in the E Drive where I store my files
1) system volume information folder
2) MediaIn.bin file
3) my compuer name and -PC folder
I finally came to my senses and plugged in the external and backed to it and noticed the backup has these 3 files as well. I already deleted #3 above--is there a reason why I should not delete the other two items from E Drive since they show up on the L Drive when the external HD is plugged in? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I've gone from a machine running win98se to Vista home premium 64 bit and I'm scared to death of it.
About 2 days ago i installed SP1. After installing i noticed my headphones not working so i checked them on my mp3 player - everything was alright. Then i thought it could be the jack port, so i tried to clean it - no results. My dad was gone so i had to handle myself. Googled and found this forum. Then i thought it could be drivers, because many people are encoutering this problem. I downloaded Realtek drivers and nothing! It is possible that i don't know what drivers i should download. And motherboard is Gigabyte a micro model, don't remember the numbers.

I also tried plugging in headphones (into the rear panel, the front panel has never worked for headphones), they also didnt work. I plugged my speakers into my ipod and they worked, so im guessing its to do with the computer. The speakers are definatly wired up correctly. The speakers are labtec pulse 350. I have vista 32bit home edition and have never had any problems with these speakers before.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have HP NW8000 laptop running Vista Ultimate. I installed SP1 a few days ago. After the upgrade, the battery is not charging anymore. Right now it is completely drained out and it says 0% available plugged in, not charging. I uninstalled the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery drivers (there were two) from the Device Manager and install them again with scan for hardware changes. I tried unplugging and plugging the battery back but nothing helps. The can't get the battery to charge. What gives?

About a year after I bought it, it slid off the table and bent the connecter for the original AC adapter, so I bought a new adapter online. It's an off-brand adapter, but the voltage outputs and inputs are the same as my old adapter, and it charged the battery fine for about two months. Then the battery started charging halfway and then less and less until finally it reached 0% available (plugged in, not charging). Now, this still wasn't an immediate problem for me because my laptop is stationary most of the time; however, since last October the adapter has had to be plugged in at a certain angle or it won't power the laptop at all, and now it has taken to shutting off randomly or whenever the connecter is nudged. Highlights:
* Gateway NX570X laptop with Windows Vista
* Off-brand AC adapter worked for about two months before malfunctions began
* Battery life reads 0% available (plugged in, not charging)
* Adapter must be inserted into the laptop at just the right angle to turn it on
* Computer shuts down randomly, ranging between minutes, hours, and days after starting it up
I am currently using a laptop that is approx one year old - it's a toshiba tecra A6. It belonged to a friend and I have only received it recently, so I do not know its history. When I hover above the 'power plan' icon on the bottom toolbar, it says "0% available, (plugged in, not charging)" and, accordingly, cannot run the computer on battery power. Is this definitely a problem with the computer's battery, despite it being only one year old?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI like to use speakers for listening to music/radio and I like to use headphones when playing games (TF2, Counterstrike, etc). It would be really nice if I could swap between the two easily, but I can't seem to sort this out. Before I moved to Vista I could get a signal to both my speakers and headphones at the same time. However, when I upgraded to Vista x64 I also upgraded my motherboard (to a GA-P35C-DS3R) and it now provides Realtek HD audio. However it seems my case only supports AC97.
What I would like is either:
1. A physical switch to switch between them (preferred)
2. Both playing audio at the same time
I want to buy some Creative Gigaworks T40s to replace my old speakers. Also my old headphones have recently broken so I need to buy new ones. I am looking at some decent gaming headphones - either Medusa 5.1 ProGamer or maybe Sennheiser PC161. (Any better suggestions?). However, the switching thing is the real problem. Considering I am shelling out for new headphones and speakers I don't want to spent a huge amount beyond this - maybe another £50.
No sound will come through the speaker or headphones in Vista, I checked the drivers in control panel's device manager utility. Does anybody know what could be blocking the signal?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhy isn't there a headphones setting like XP has? Stereo, Quad, 5.1 and 7.1 are there but no Headphones? CSS doesn't allow me to choose headphones in game and resets itself to Stereo. I have an X-fi and have the Audio HQ installed and I have it set to Headphones but CSS isn't as distinctive as it was in XP. I find it harder now to pin point enemy location. In XP it was a lot more distinctive. BTW, I'm using Vista now because I got fed up with the datacache.dll error in Source games.

I went to control panel, clicked on sounds. Then i got a window with 3 tabs but no speakers or headphones anywhere. The volume icon says there's no sound device installed. I'm about to freak out!

Since I bought my computer I discovered a little annoying quirk: I often don't get sound when I connect my headphones to the jack on the front of the computer. This is not my 1st computer, and, of course, I made sure it was not on mute, I clicked on the icon for sound and toggle to its highest function and it made a sound as it was going up. So, there is sound, but when I initially put in a DVD (and I've tried w/it numerous, not just 1 single dvd), there's no sound. I literally have to take out the DVD and then put it back in, then I get sound. However, if I don't have a DVD in the computer and I click on a link that pops up a video, which is accompany by sound, I don't hear anything. It is here that I dont know what to do.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Vista Ultimate and I recently dicarded my dell speakers that came with my xps 400 b/c only the back ones worked and those cables were too long to use efficently (I don't need help on how to arrange my speakers, thats OK). The real problem is that my Sony MDR-E828 headphones won't work with the computer/the computer dosn't recognize them (so essentially I have no sound, other than the beeps that come out of the PC itself). Before I uninstalled the other speakers (after I had disconected them), the headphones only worked for the sound config (wher the CPU makes sound come out of the different speakers to identify them). Now, I can't get to any mixer or any thing else (sound test, ect.) b/c no speakers are installed, and when I plug the headphones in, all I get is static. I went to the Sony Tech support and there are no downloads for the headphones. I'm completely lost and soundless.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was in the process of trying to get internet access on my Xbox 360, so I plugged it into my laptop (Toshiba Satellite L305-S5921) and as soon as I did my wireless connection went from full connection to either local only or identifying (one of the two). So I no longer have internet on not only my laptop, but I still can't figure out how to connection share to my Xbox. This happened before, but somehow it fixed itself? I tried reinstalling the wireless drivers to no avail; it didn't fix the problem. So if anyone can help me diagnose this problem, This is pretty urgent because I need to be able to use the internet for homework.

So while im playing, after 10 min. the PC starts to make noise (humming noise).
