I have somewhat of an annoying UI problem with Explorer. For some reason, the TreeView in explorer is adding lines illustrated below: Is there any way to get rid of the lines? This began happening when I set my "Folder Options" to view hidden files. I deleted a lot of extra junk that explorer was hiding on my desktop, and that's when this problem started happening.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI was listening to the 911 call about the chimp attacking the woman in Conn. when all at once my computer screen had these horizontal lines running all across the screen!!I wasn't watching the video ,just listeneing to the audio,after about 12 0r 13 minutes is when this happened,it was in full screen mode with a picture of the chimp on it. It was just a picture, no moving or anything. This has happened before,(just the lines are a new development) it never shut off it,this time, just stopped responding. what could have caused this?? When im playing games and running my benchmark system i get invisible lines going from left to right on my display. i can see the lines whenever my player moves. i have also seen a decrease in frames per second. its a sony vaio laptop. the drivers are the most updated and changing stuff in the 3D section of the control center DOeSNT.

It looks like the resolution decreased and it even has these small horizontal lines flashing you can notice when you look real close to it. It resembles ?static?. To fix it, I can go to the nVidia control panel and switch the monitor configuration and then hit ?No? when it asks me if I want to keep the setting But then it will come back again later at random it seems.

appearing as shortcut. I understand how to change an icon but I used to
be able to drag a web address to my desktopp and have it appear as the
custom favicon of that site. Notebook was restored by IBM and now
dragging or any other method I have read in forum has solved the issue.
Any thoughts? If I want to create a custome icon (I have the address
for just the icon) where is it placed. I pasted in shortcut properties
but then shortcut is directed to favicon page of that website. Thanks

The wife has her Vista 64bit box which uses dial up set NOT to check for and automatically DL updates because it is not online always plus user account controls are turned off. Updates are installed every couple days when available while she is at work by me. Because these are disabled pop-ups keep appearing about checking setting and such when I know what the setting are!! Is there a way to keep these notification pop-ups from coming up?
Evertime these things come up the wife gets all paranoid and is calling me to come check because the thing crashed once and now the warning pop-ups or whatever are getting her all bent out of shape even though I tell her to ignore them and they will go away. We know what the settings are and do not need the stupid pop-ups telling us that something is not set the way the damn system thinks it should be!
I have a HP Pavilion DV6330 Laptop which I have recently performed a system recovery due to an unrelated problem.The system works fine now but I keep getting a message from HP to register on my screen,I've register three times and when I select the option of 'do not remind me any more'-the message keeps appearing,its so annoying does anyone have a solution please.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThis may actually be a Linksys problem, but I hope there's a workaround in Vista. Linksys wireless print server; network of computers (mostly Vista 32, some XP, one Vista 64, one Linux) that print through it to an HP LaserJet 1200 printer using HP PCL 5 drivers. All print jobs are OK, but many of them (somewhat unpredictably) are preceded by a junk page containing a couple of lines of PCL commands ("PJL COMMENT" and the like).
It is not clear whether the junk page is the beginning of the job or the tail end of the previous job -- thus I'm not even sure which computers are generating it. I think the former. That is, I think it is a set of PCL comments sent at the beginning of the job. Linksys drivers are not on the PCs. Instead I print through LPR or RAW protocol (both give the same results) on a TCP/IP port as recommended by Linksys.
I have tried the WinPrint print processor and 2 versions of the HP print rocessor. This seems to slightly change what's on the junk pages but not eliminate them. Printing several jobs in succession from the same computer, I usually don't get junk pages in front of them. But the actual conditions are hard to pin down. Trying to run around and try all the combinations is very tedious
I'm new to Vista (used to XP) and playing around a bit. I've logged on to a Server 2003 AD domain and the mapped drives that are usually connected via script aren't visible in 'Computer'. My first thought was perhaps some sort of incompatibility between Server 2003 group policy (or script) and Vista Business but when I was creating my recovery disks, I selected create ISO and when browsing for a location, the usual mapped network drives were available. So it appears that the recovery software can see my mapped drives (and therefore the OS must be able to see them) but I can't see them in the OS under 'Computer'. Is there something I need to turn on or off?

The name on one is: {8fe23f09-822e-47f1-a18a-6c217d3715ac} The other is {fb188761-d295-4c64-ab73-e81bf66b0f24} If I click on these and open them, there is something inside with the file type of "security catalog" I have no idea what these are, where they came from or whether I'll do some kind of harm to my computer by deleting them. This happened to me one other time where these things started appearing. Eventually I accumulated dozens of them. I was having other problems so ended up doing a system recovery, reformatting the drive, and they stopped appearing, but now have started again.

This make plain text editor unworkable In Vista +WindowsMail environment, due to weird linebreaks handling. Why do I claim it to be weird? BECAUSE IT WAS PERFECT IN WindowsXP. View 4 Replies View RelatedI need to change the display filename colors in Vista Windows Explorer similar to the MAC O/S Feature. This question does NOT deal with Encrypted Files or Compressed Files. I simply want to change the display names of the files to colors such as BLUE, GREY, etc., just like I can do on the MAC O/S for the past 5 years.
I do NOT want to use any third party software file managers. There must be a way to do it in Windows since APPLE has been doing it for 60 months now. I can't believe that Windows STILL Cannot perform this simple task! If you have a working solution using Windows Explorer please email me and let me know.
I wasn't quite sure if IE8 was the culprit, but it became apparent once I removed it. Internet Explorer 8 interferes with the functionality in Windows Explorer for Vista. Say for example: With IE8 installed, open up "Computer". Close it, then open it again. It should be instantaneous. But its not. A window will take over to 10 seconds to show its initial contents. Once its open though, its very fast because the instance is already running. But once it closes it will take another 10 seconds to open again. Internet Explorer 8 itself opens up very slowly even after the first opening. Can any Vista users verify this?
1. Install IE8
2. Go: Start > click Computer
3. Close that Window.
4. Repeat step 2.
Is it an instantaneous opening or does the window take more than 5 seconds to populate? Repeat those steps with opening Internet Explorer. Is it the same? If so, welcome to the club. Does Microsoft have any way to report this bug to developers?
When I open windows explorer in either XP or Vista it opens the "My Document" folder as the default. However I only want "My Computer" to be expanded and everything else left unexpanded.

Also, same thing with Internet Explorer...I'm getting real sick of Vista's shoddiness..
By now it should be obvious that, under the Vista operating system, I have Home Premium, there is a severe overall, general "has stopped working" problem.

Is it not obvious by now that Vista has a problem, maybe a compatability problem, with everything from Internet Explorer and Microsoft Word to third party programs which cause programs, as I mentioned, even programs made by Microsoft, to "stop working"? Is there no an overall "stopped working" patch or something that Microsoft has released by now?...............
i'm having a problem in vista explorer. When i open computer, all the icons are shown in the left hand navigation pane, but not in the right hand side where i can open things. I have to scroll through this annoying small preview pane to open folders etc.

RAM 6GB, CPU Intel E6750. Vista Ultimate x64.
I installed a secondary HDD in my wife's Vista Premium PC. It 'installed" and drivers installed and Vista "says" your new HDD is ready to use. However, in Computer/Explorer there is NO 2nd HDD and I couldnt "use it"....I took it down to local computer shop. They investigated and told me that the motherboard would only recognise 2 IDE devices (the first HDD and the DVD Burner). They suggested that they replace the DVD Burner with an ATAPI device (?) which I did OK and that then the 2nd IDE HDD would be operational.
Now I DID rush them, and I didnt actually see it working, but paying for it, I left the shop and came home with the PC. Of course, the 2nd HDD is STILL not visible/usable in any way. When I right click on My Computer and go "Manage" and go thru to Disk Management, the 2nd HDD IS VISIBLE. I thought I may have to Format it. BUT clicking on this brings up an error message that Disk Management has failed and to restart your computer.
An old XP program I installed has put some files into a folder called :usersmynameappdata oaming . I can find the folder using Vista 'search' facility, but not using explorer ?? The program works OK and I have got a shortcut to the folder I need, but why does it not show up in explorer ?

I've been having a problem with my menu bar in file explorer. I've posted this question elsewhere, but so far, no one has been able to help
I've begun hiding my menu bar recently and I noticed something annoying, and judging by other people's screenshots, it's not supposed to look this way.
If the pic shows up, look above organize and you'll see a fat white bar where the menu is collapsed. It's as if it isn't collapsed completely, or maybe it has something to do with padding(?)..I don't know. I just cannot get rid of this, and it's really distracting on dark themes like this one, though it shows up on all themes, even regular windows aero.
Any ideas? It's drving me nuts!
