For some unknown reason, my desktop icons have white boxes infront of the Icons. I've searched and I havent found any fixes (or similar problems). The first pic is normal size, the second is with larger icons, so you can tell the Normal Icon is behind the white box.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed an update for my computer - vista SP1, and after installing my icons (such as internet explorer, itunes, the sims) have been replaced with smaller white icons on top. (The icons which usually appear when a file cannot open - ie unrecognised). Is there a way to remove these smaller white icons? or should i just uninstalling vista SP1 altogether (will this be bad for the computer?)
View 4 Replies View RelatedNot terribly important (I can liev with black & white icons), but annoyance indeed and only started recently. It does NOT affect WindowsExplorer/Filemanager icons for folders, files, etc. Those have been and are fine 100%. Just the mouse right-click, now shows weird black&white icons, icons themselves are OK, colors are not. Difficult to see quickly what to click as I used to know by color what is what. For example right-click on empty space in Windows Explorer and select "new text Document" - the icon for it is a very bleak, black & whit eone. Use to be vivid greenish/bluish.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I open a folder of files anywhere in Vista Ultimate, the file icons appear all white (blank) with the file name underneath. If I switch the View to medium or extra large file icons they appear normal and when I switch the view back to large, they again appear normal. However, after a few minutes, when I open the same folder, they are again all white (blank).

View 8 Replies View RelatedI installed Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended Trial version. As soon as the install finished I noticed that every single one of my desktop shortcut icons now have another icon overlaid in front of them. It's the white square icon you get when your shortcut is not linked to it's program. But my shortcuts are linked and work. Everything's normal about them except for this overlay.
It even appears in front of new shortcuts I create.
Uninstalling the Adobe program did not get rid of them.
Does any one know how to get rid of these overlays...?
I have only texts, no icons and I can't run any program. My screen flashes black when I try to start a program.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have asked many questions here recently , and I finally GAVE UP fixing Vista, and reinstalled it for the 4th time. It just commits suicide whenever it wants. I even replaced my Motherboard/drives/video hardware and it still suicides out. I reinstalled Vista, this time I also installed SP1. After a day (today many of my desktop and start menu and explorer icons show either the default windows UGLY icon or that icon on TOP of the normal icon. I had this installed one day and already issues come, this one is visual.

When I manually change the default program for a file type, like I have set my PDFs to open with eCopy Desktop, the icon for each PDF shows up as a paper icon with the eCopy icon contained within. It should just show the eCopy icon. I have noticed this whenever I change the default program for a file type. Is there anyway to get these to show the application icon only, not contained within a paper icon?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAll shortcuts in Explorer are the Windows default icon. The Start Menu and Desktop shortcuts are fine. Also, some folders such as "History" and "Temporary Internet Files" are the Windows default icon. I've deleted the Icon Cache, which did nothing.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy monitor is set at 1152 X 720 pixels. The default is 1440 x 900, but that makes everything so super tiny that I can't see text too well. Text size is set at default or standard. The Windows dialog boxes are all cut off so that at least one third of them cannot be seen. From using old Windows OS systems in the past, I can guess at what is unseen and just use the tab key to select "Ok, Cancel, and Apply".
But some boxes, for example, the "Sound Theme" dialog box has a whole section below of selecting sounds for events and I cannot see any of it.
Here's the clincher. Just to adjust my sound theme, I set my monitor to the microscopic 1440 x 900 setting and still cannot see the dialog boxes. The text size set on default.
What settings are these boxes viewable?
I should point out that my Sister and a couple of friends have
the exact same problem.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWell im very new to windows mail, in fact only a few hours, and trying to set up the email has proven to be a real headache.On outlook express, my husband and i had seperate email accounts, we logged in to them seperate and for some reason i dont appear to be able to do this with windows mail.I put all our info in as you do when adding an account and did this twice one with my details and one with my husbands (pop3, smtp email address etc) when i opened up windows mail, all the mail was going in to one box and not serperate. I changed it so we had to enter the password each time to login thinking this might open it up as serperate, no. how i get round this, i know there must be a way, but im getting so frustrated with it now, i cant see what im looking at, ive been trying for so long.

View 7 Replies View Related I run Vista Business 64-bit ("clean" install a week ago) and am having troubles with some of the built-in games..... I can't click on buttons in dialog-boxes within these games. I can dismiss the dialog by clicking the X, but not when it's asking if I want to save the game. In this case i need to use the keyboard to focus and click on a button. * Menu flickers rapidly. When clicking on one menu, all menus shows and flicker. I see mouse hovering effects on the wrong spots. I.e. the card next to the one I have my cursor over.
In minesweeper I can't click on any of the buttons in the first column. All other buttons work just fine. I see the "button down-effect" but nothing happens. What is the common denominator of the mentioned games and how can I fix it? My drivers are up-to-date and I have not experienced any other kinds of input/graphics issues with any other apps/games.
Have you recently installed a system utility or a productivity application such as Adobe Photoshop or Macromedia Dreamweaver and have been bombarded with registration messages that pop-up every time your start the application? Even when you check the box and tell the application never to remind you ever again?
This happens to me all the time and is very annoying. The culprit of this problem is... you guessed it, UAC!
Your application keeps asking you to register because the registry key that it checks to see if you should still be harassed into registration is never getting set thanks to UAC. When I check the box or hit the Never remind me again button the registry write gets virtualized because the app tried to write to a part of the registry a standard user does not have access to. This is a feature of UAC and it does a great job of redirecting the registry write so the application does not crash out. However, since the application is not aware of this virtualized write location it keeps checking the registry value of the key in the normal location. Since the application has read only access to that location the key will keep getting virtualized every time you check the box and is why the registration boxes keep popping up.
How do you get out of this mess? Real simple, just run the application as an Administrator ....
I just upgraded to a new computer with Vista , IE 7 etc..and I ran across a small problem..and I can't seem to find anything in the "Help" on IE or Vista , so I was wondering if an expert could give me some insight to a solution... ** How do I fix the font size in "boxes" on web pages..
for example the 2 boxes on Google page ..."Google Search" .. "I'm Feeling Lucky" and other small "boxes", like the boxes when you fill in a form online...also...the box where you enter text in the search area When I first started to use IE7 it was fine..then somewhere along the line the size went really small..
recently I've just been noticing a lot of text being cutt off at the end, or even cutt of vertically when it goes to a second line. I've posted about this on a couple other forums but had no success fixing it and my google searches aint produced much either. I thought this was just winamp messing up at first but then i noticed it in itunes as well and now i keep seeing it everywhere, in some webpages and a few other apps. Heres a few examples. A while back i had some problems with a load of fonts being deleted somehow so that vista started using some other ones instead. in the end i fixed this by copying all the missing fonts from my vista laptop over to my desktop. Dunno if this is what has caused my current prob but might have something to do with it.

For some reason when i am using my computer a white screen comes up and can not figure out why its diong that it just started diong this very confused. i always have to go down to the bottom and right click to show desk top but then when i go in to anything the white screen comes back its wierd

This made my WHOLE operating system go completely retarded, but once I used safe mode a couple of times it sorted out. I recently installed Ubuntu, so I can dual-boot my laptop. Now, all of a sudden after the Ubuntu install, my windows vista is broken!! I get to the log in screen, and i log in as normal, and then i get to my desktop - which is just a blank white screen with my curser on it. I can press CTRL-ALT-DEL, and i can log off and shut down, but I can not use task manager, and it gives me an error message saying something like 'it can not run' or something.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi have found over the past few weeks my system has been locking up in the first 10 minutes or so. All i get is a whit screen and a constant freeze out that is not resolved by ctrl alt del. I have taken the following actions
1. took side off case and removed any dust which was minimal
2. cleaned down heatsink
3. removed plug in Graphics card as i noticed it was very hot (GF8400GS)
4. reinstalled Vista ultimate from scratch
5. left the system running with the side off
alas it is still crashing in the first few minutes or wehn i try to install anything. The system is currently clean with just the install software given it crashes as soon as i try to do anything. It is 8 months old and in very good condition. I am at an absolute loss as to what could be. As stated before i cannot run for more than a few minutes so am struggling to do anything with the system....
all my desktop icons got suddenly changed to internet explorer icons,after (i opened some program in the internet,) then i did some personalisation then it changed to my adobe photoshop icon, all the desktop icons now shows the adobe,,icons.like all my programs which was earlier like (yahoo msngr, msn mesengr,windows vista programs,almost all other programs) and my internet wireless stopped working. i have a vista home premium 32. and my comp is asus f3t series. i was trying to do the icon cache, but couldnt find. tried restarting but couldnt solve.now trying to run my antivirus scan Mcafee. if anybody knows the solution to restore my earlier icons.
