I want to transfer files from Vista to an older machine using XP. How do I do that? Now the Vista machine will not read a CD used to taransfer the file. Also, how do you go from XP to Vista?
I have an issue that does not seem easy to solve. I have looked at many ghost software programs to try to achieve this but have not found one yet. I need to move my PROGRAMS and files from my Vista 32bit machine to a new Vista 64bit machine I purchased. How can I do this? If I cannot do this what will the performance issue be by doing a complete copy of my current 32bit os and using that on my new i7 machine? Finally if I do transfer my 32 bit system, can I upgrade to a 64bit OS? What about when Windows 7 is available?
How many times can you transfer your vista upgrade lic. to a new computer? its not being use on the old computer. Had it on one pc then that pc died a few months later transfer to a new pc. which got stolen. got new laptop and was wondering if I can still use that upgrade lic on new computer.
I have an older computer, running XP, and I used Microsoft Digital Library, to keep track of about 2K images. I now have a new computer, running Vista, and have used the "transfer files " (using a USB) option, on Vista, to import all the photos, to the new HD. I also installed the old Microsoft Digital Image Suite (including the "libr ary"), on the new Vista=A0HD. Some of the photo files transferred just fine - dates taken, labels, etc.; however, a bunch of them transferred with totally incorrect dates taken, an d missing, or no labels. Needless to say, to fix this mess, on an individual photo file basis, is go ing to take forever. (I did change a few of the dates taken, and added labe ls, using the Photo Gallery, on Vista, and it did work, but there are tons of them, still wrong.)
My one year old Hp laptop has gone dead and am thinking the best solution is to buy a new one, problem is this Laptop came with an OEM vista premium. My priority of course is to get the files from the old Laptop to the new one but if I can get the whole sytem up on the new one that would be marvelous.
I read that OEM is tied to the machine and cannot be moved to another question is if i transfer the hard disk to the new Laptop and install a new vista will it recognise the old one and repair it while preserving the system. If not will conenting the old hard disk to the new one through a USB enclosure gain me acsess to the whole hard disk including my documents.
I am trying to import my email in the inbox from one hard drive to another the older hard drive has an older version of outlook express than the new hard drive.
I recently got windows 7 and installed it onto an empty hard drive in my pc. I now have my old hard drive with vista on and my new hard drive with windows 7 on. The only problem is i have hundreds of programs and updates etc on my old hard drive that i really want to use with windows 7 on my new hard drive. Does anyone know how i can transfer over all the programs and data from my old hard drive to my new hard drive? I tryed just copying the files over but i dont have the registry settings on my new hard drive with windows 7, so none of the programs work
Right now I have a single 640 gig HDD that everything's on. I've got a laptop too that I'm gonna be taking out on rotations eventually. I wanted to get a new smaller (250GB) HDD and put my Vista on that, so my 640 will be data only (then I could take it with me in an external enclosure and leave the desktop for my mom to use til I come back and collect it). I was gonna DBAN the 640, but I wanted to get the data off of it first- about 170 GB of stuff that I'd rather not lose.
My question is-
Can I install Vista on the smaller drive, boot with that, and access files on the other drive? Would it work if there's another Vista running on the other drive? (both SATA).
I was discussing Vista with a few friends over on a Linux website. They say: Vista will not play MPEG or MP3 files if Vista thinks they are illegal downloads. Vista will not allow you to store downloaded music. Vista calls home every day to tell MS what programs, keystrokes and internet sites you use. Vista will not allow you to Copy a DVD for your own home use as a backup. Is any of this true? I have yet to have any problems. I do value what little privacy I can get so if Vista calls home everyday that's crap...
Windows Vista SP1 stand-alone packages do not contain the updated Windows Vista SP1 Help files. The updated Windows Vista Help file packages are named "Update for Help Files."
These files are packaged separately for each language. The updated Help files have been excluded from the stand-alone SP1 packages to reduce the size of the packages. However, the updated Windows Vista Help files are contained in the retail and OEM versions of Windows Vista that include SP1. Therefore, if you perform a clean installation of a version of Windows Vista that includes SP1, you do not have to add an updated Help file....
I would like to create 2 paging files, one on C: and the other on an eSata external drive. I've heard 2 sides of how. One to let the computer decide (System Managed Size) on both drives, and the other to have a static page file on both as to eliminate fragmentation. System Managed or a Static pagefile? And if a static, how large on both. I have 4G Ram?
In XP's Windows Explorer, I was able to view the actual image of paint shop pro files with the file extensions of .psp, .pspimage and .tub. Is Vista capable of doing this?
I've been having this problem where I cannot modify (Delete, move, rename files .. etc!) certain files. When I try to do any of the modifying such as deleting... a windows box comes up saying it's trying to delete but nothing happens. It's not being used by any program.... and i've been able to delete the file using safe mode but it's a bit of a hastle to do that everytime
when i open the folder containing one of these files, a windwos vista bubble ppears from the bottom right saying something like the viewing mode has been changed to vista basic....
I just bought a gatway laptop with vista and also have another laptop with xp. I have a network set up. Both laptops can get on that network wirelessly and can get on the internet with both. Now the PROBLEM, my xp laptop (wireless) sees the vista laptop (wireless) but the vista laptop doesn't see the xp laptop.
I have made the vistat laptop private and turned on all sharing. I also tried to double click the vista laptop icon(on the xp laptop) but got the error message (not authorized...). What steps do I need to take to get the two computers sharing?
After three days of bliss with Vista Ultimate x64 I've already had it. Could someone give me a hint where Vista moved the files I thought I was dragging across the LAN onto my new desktop. I'd like to have them back when I get XP Pro x64 installed.
Can I transfer all the files/programs from my old computer which runs on XP to my new computer (Vista) via a Serial File Transfer Cable? The cable is for either a DB9 or DB25 serial port.
When I was running XP, I put some personal files in a special encrypted folder, but I forgot to decrypt it when I backed it up to install Vista. Now, everytime I try to open one of the still encrypted files, I get the message saying "Access Denied".
Since installing AVG 9 I have a few problems, one which is now known to AVG that attachements cannot be sent in the likes of Yahoo and Sky Mail, this has gone to the developers.
This one may not be AV related so thought I would ask here.
I have been unzipping files in Vista with no problem, after the download of AVG 9 I am unable to open them.
When I right click on the file I do not get Extract all in the list.
I do not know which is the program that opens zip files within Vista and so I am unable to tell it which program to Open with.
At the risk of sounding ignorant once more, can anybody tell me where/how I can access cookie files in VISTA. Got "show all hidden files" enabled" and in Search I checked "show all hidden....."; am logged in as administrator and still can't find cookie folders. Am on IE7 now but had Firefox for a while and suspect there are a few cookies left from Firefox I want delete manually; I know I can dump 'em all but I don't want to do that.
I am using Vista Home Premium and cannot open .php files created with Microsoft Greetins since Microsoft Greetings (the best Greeting card program ever made!) is incompatible with Vista. How can one open the files created in the .php format? Adobe Go-Live tries to open them, but fails.
Ive just installed Vista Ultimate 64 bit on my comp and im having trouble sharing files with another computer that has WinXP 32bit installed. Ive checked that the workgroup names are the same and that file sharing is enabled, but it wont allow me to access files on my vista machine FROM the winxp machine. I have no trouble accessing files on the winxp machine from my vista machine, but it wont work the other way around. It gives me an access denied error due to permissions, even though I let it have full control. Could this be because the 32bit is clashing with the 64 bit? Because I previously have winxp installed on both machines and file sharing was working fine.
I know this seems totally absurd but really, what tells files that the OS you are running is Vista Home Prem. or Ultimate? I know there entries in the HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersion in the registry and from what Carey Frisch [MVP] told me that sysinfo32 gets its info from some weird file in the %SystemRoot%System32WbemRepository folder that I can only open in a text format.
Vista SP1. It took over THIRTY FIVE minutes to copy 2.4 GB of files to a pen drive. Copying the same 2.4 GB of files from the pen drive to my Linux Netbook took less than FIVE minutes. Why is Vista so appallingly slow at copying?
