Can Vista Display Psp Files?
Nov 19, 2008In XP's Windows Explorer, I was able to view the actual image of paint shop pro files with the file extensions of .psp, .pspimage and .tub. Is Vista capable of doing this?

Access Denied When Trying To Display Vista Files
Jan 26, 2009I am able to map a Vista 64 drive from my XP machine but I get a cryptic message: Access Denied when trying to display the Vista files. I am able to go the other way - open the XP folders/files in Vista. Google searchs provide much info but I'm just not able to access the Vista folders or files from my XP machine after trying many things.

Nov 21, 2009In my normal old XP pro IE, I just click Tools, Internet Options, Settings, View Files To be able to view and copy the temporary internet files, from IE. But with my vista, when i do the same thing, even though I have activated make hidden files visible, the temp inet folder appears empty. I assume they are present, but Just cannot see them. Can someone point me in the right direction to make them available to me... Also if anyone knows of any handy tools for managing the temp files let me know. I copy a ton of stuff frm the temp inet folder and its very cumbersome.

Jul 1, 2008I applied this to fix the missing clear recent list problem in start menu: "Clear Recent Items List" option missing when you right-click on the Recent folder However, the problem returns frequently and the option is missing again. I also have this other problem where every time I reboot, the "store and display recently opened files" is unchecked and therefore the feature does not show up in the start menu. I have to re-check it everytime after a reboot. This is very annoying. Note: this problem was always happening prior to installing both Wise software. Also, I have always used CCleaner without such problems, for over 2 years. On a side note, it seems the problem *may* have started around the time I installed SP1.

Aug 15, 2009I didn't have this annoyance in WinXP but I do in WinVista. It forgets recently opened text files for example, I have a daily "note" file which gets registered in "Recendly Opened Docs" (click Start-->Documents) for ONE sesssion, if I reboot or just work for many hours/next day it's not there and I have to go search in WinExplorer for the d*** file?
Please don't tell me to turn ON Taskbar options "store & display a list of recently open files/prgrams" - those options are both on, also I've been doing computers for decades.Something else is going on here, it's not my settings at fault.Plus, ironically Vista remembers a bunch of OLD files I opened ages ago and still listed as "recently opened" I am tired of looking up for files (in File System/WinExplorer) which I used
to open with TWO CLICKS in WinXP. Yes I can place them all in a conveniently accessible folder, but do NOT want to, it's user's right to keep files where user wants to, especially b/c duplicates/confusion would arise & my system is loaded with a Million files.
VISTA And XP Not Display Error
Jun 20, 2009Unfortunately, everything I tried failed to get VISTA and XP to not display the error: "Network path not found." I just about gave up when I came across something that worked. All I needed was to access each computer's files via the others. I found a "back door" entrance to both computers. Here's the situation: Both computers could "ping" each other by IP address only, not name. In each operating system, in the Run command from the Strart menu, I typed 2 backslashes "\" plus the IP address of the other computer. Magically, all the shared folders from the other computer displayed on the other computer!!! and vice versa. I was not able to copy over older files as I still received a nasty warning saying that "I did not have permission..." or something like that. To get around that, I just copied the files I needed from one computer to a different folder on the other computer (eliminating copying over the other folders and eliminating the warning). Then, I went to the other computer and just copied the files over the older ones and the replacement/updating of files was complete. It's a little bit of a hassel but it works (extend middle finger to Microsoft).
To this day, I don't understand how Microsoft can put out a product that does not work with previous versions OF THEIR OWN PRODUCT!!!!!! amazing. Once again, thanks to all who helped. One last note: I can share printers by "browsing" the other computer when you want to print something, buy IP address and not name... Works like a charm.
Windows Vista Search Does Not Display Results
Aug 23, 2007Windows Vista Search is giving me results, just not in the form in which I'd expect. When I search for a particular term, I get, for arguments sake, 1066 results, all of various file types. Around 695 of those results are JPG pictures. If I click on the button to Show Only Pictures, then the details pane shows that there are now only 695 results, but the results don't show. In order for me to see the pictures, I ned to click on All, and then scroll the results until I find the pictures I want. This only happens with when I try to filter a search to show only pictures.

Dec 25, 2008Right now I have a single 640 gig HDD that everything's on. I've got a laptop too that I'm gonna be taking out on rotations eventually. I wanted to get a new smaller (250GB) HDD and put my Vista on that, so my 640 will be data only (then I could take it with me in an external enclosure and leave the desktop for my mom to use til I come back and collect it). I was gonna DBAN the 640, but I wanted to get the data off of it first- about 170 GB of stuff that I'd rather not lose.
My question is-
Can I install Vista on the smaller drive, boot with that, and access files on the other drive? Would it work if there's another Vista running on the other drive? (both SATA).

One to let the computer decide (System Managed Size) on both drives, and the other to have a static page file on both as to eliminate fragmentation. System Managed or a Static pagefile? Aug 29, 2009I've been having this problem where I cannot modify (Delete, move, rename files .. etc!) certain files. When I try to do any of the modifying such as deleting... a windows box comes up saying it's trying to delete but nothing happens. It's not being used by any program.... and i've been able to delete the file using safe mode but it's a bit of a hastle to do that everytime

How To Share Files Between Xp And Vista
Dec 16, 2008I just bought a gatway laptop with vista and also have another laptop with xp. I have a network set up. Both laptops can get on that network wirelessly and can get on the internet with both. Now the PROBLEM, my xp laptop (wireless) sees the vista laptop (wireless) but the vista laptop doesn't see the xp laptop.
I have made the vistat laptop private and turned on all sharing. I also tried to double click the vista laptop icon(on the xp laptop) but got the error message (not authorized...). What steps do I need to take to get the two computers sharing?

Jan 20, 2009When I was running XP, I put some personal files in a special encrypted folder, but I forgot to decrypt it when I backed it up to install Vista. Now, everytime I try to open one of the still encrypted files, I get the message saying "Access Denied".

Ive checked that the workgroup names are the same and that file sharing is enabled, but it wont allow me to access files on my vista machine FROM the winxp machine. I have no trouble accessing files on the winxp machine from my vista machine, but it wont work the other way around. It gives me an access denied error due to permissions, even though I let it have full control. Could this be because the 32bit is clashing with the 64 bit? Because I previously have winxp installed on both machines and file sharing was working fine.
