When I was running XP, I put some personal files in a special encrypted folder, but I forgot to decrypt it when I backed it up to install Vista. Now, everytime I try to open one of the still encrypted files, I get the message saying "Access Denied".

I am able to map a Vista 64 drive from my XP machine but I get a cryptic message: Access Denied when trying to display the Vista files. I am able to go the other way - open the XP folders/files in Vista. Google searchs provide much info but I'm just not able to access the Vista folders or files from my XP machine after trying many things.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to access a network folder share with my notebook. The share contains EFS encrpyted files and is located on a PC that runs Vista Ultimate. My notebook runs Vista Entreprise. I can see the files and its sizes, but I cannot copy them to my notebook or open them directly from the share without getting an "access denied" error. I installed the PC's encryption certificate on my notebook (as documented in Vista's help) but keep getting the "access denied" error. I have no issues with copying or opening files on the network share that are not encrypted. The error message only appears when trying to copy/open encrypted files.

I want to change the start menu and get rid of a bunch of garbage but I can't enter the folder to do so. When I use the start menu program, it only has a few basic folders. This happens frequently, even when trying to view pictures or video in the folder. What do I need to change to remove this very annoying problem?

He was setting the parental controls and managed to control his account which had admin access. the user listing has the account listing as an admin but he only has standard user access. His was the "only" admin account.. While he was doing this he managed to deny access to the boot drive. The drive reads as "Access Denied". The machine boots up and a person can play games etc.. but network access is restricted.

Got "show all hidden files" enabled" and in Search I checked "show all hidden....."; am logged in as administrator and still can't find cookie folders. Am on IE7 now but had Firefox for a while and suspect there are a few cookies left from Firefox I want delete manually; I know I can dump 'em all but I don't want to do that.

I have the file and printer sharing stuff turned on on the laptop. Also I am running AVG on both systems and I have the Windows firewall enabled on both. Both are connected to a D-link router, DESktop is wired, laptop is wireless. Also a friend of mine came over and has the same laptop as me except he is running XP on his and he had no problem seeing my desktop, or accessing its files.
View 9 Replies View RelatedRight now I have a single 640 gig HDD that everything's on. I've got a laptop too that I'm gonna be taking out on rotations eventually. I wanted to get a new smaller (250GB) HDD and put my Vista on that, so my 640 will be data only (then I could take it with me in an external enclosure and leave the desktop for my mom to use til I come back and collect it). I was gonna DBAN the 640, but I wanted to get the data off of it first- about 170 GB of stuff that I'd rather not lose.
My question is-
Can I install Vista on the smaller drive, boot with that, and access files on the other drive? Would it work if there's another Vista running on the other drive? (both SATA).
Search tells me the file exists but will not tell me where. Access denied. "To access, click Security Tab"
Security Tab shows permission granted for Administrator and [User]. I am both User and Admin.
Why don't I have access to my own account? The folders, My pictures, My
videos, my music, etc? It's my own account, what up with this?
The sercurity settings for permissons were changed by another person using my computer. They have denied all permissions as the administrator and i am now unable to use or change any of the settings on my computer as access has been denied to C Drive, is there a way to undo these settings to reset the sercurity settings?

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen selecting a subkey of the Java Plug-in key in the registry, I'm having an 'Access Denied' error. Even when I'm running regedit.exe with administrator rights. (OS = Visa Home Premium 32bits) When adding permissions to a subkey, I'm getting the same 'Access Denied' error when I want to save those permissions.
It results in a very anoying issue that none of my browsers (IE and FireFox) are recognising that the Java Plug-in is installed. I already tried to install other versions of the Java Plug-in, IE and Firefox (they are all installed successfully). Installing those apps with and/or without administrator rights. Nothing helps. I have an HP Vista Home Premium laptop (wireless) that I networked through a Linksys router with an eMachine XP desktop and a Gateway XP desktop (via ethernet cables). Both XP desktops commincate perfectly with each other. I can access the Internet and shared folders/files on all computers. The eMachine XP desktop has an HP laser 4L printer that is networked. I can view the printer on the eMachine XP computer but get "access denied" error when I try to add it to the Vista laptop. Per the "sure fire fix," I created a new local port and installed the HP printer drivers on the Vista laptop but the error remains.

In Windows Vista Home Premium there appeared new restrictions on some (not all) folders, like Application Data, Desktop, Documents etc. They all seem to have in the lower left corner a little square with a blue arrow pointing toward 2 o???clock. When I try to open these folders, I get: ???Access denied.???
When I check the security of the folders (right clicking the folder and clicking security), I notice that the accessible folders have Gerhard (DesktopGerhard) listed, whereas the non- accessible ones have Every-one. But when I try to add in the non-accessible folder Gerhard (DesktopGerhard), it says:???The following object, Gerhard (DesktopGerhard), is not from a domain listed in the Select Location dialog box and therefore not valid. I???m the only user and have administrative privileges. These restrictions did not exist before.
