I have deleted a few things from my recycle bin in the last few days and need to recover them, Need the best program possibly free ware that will get them back, the are message logs from MSN which were deleted from the chat logs folder so they are not in there. if it helps I only deleted them 2 days ago so I don't need to recover
View 4 RepliesI had three MS Word 2007 docx files on my hard drive. I deleted them and emptied the trash. I immediately used some File Recovery programs to try to recover them. The programs were unable to find them. That seems very strange to me. Is it possibly because they are docx files? This is a relatively new file type by Microsoft, right? I am using MS Word with Vista Home Premium.
I should probably add that the programs cannot find files with the names of the files I deleted. Are the names changed when they are deleted and the Recycle Bin emptied? I have heard that files are not wiped clean from your drive. Only the directories are changes, but the data is still there until it is written over..................

Now that I have Vista, I realize that i don't have any of the picture files that I previously saved. I know I'm foolish not to have backed up the computer myself before the install but I didn't think it would erase everything. Normally I wouldn't be concerned but I just got engaged and we captured the moment in those photos. I know there may be no hope but I just thought someone out there might have a solution....

i am using vista home, and i was working 4 months on video on movie maker and delete all the work and save the file by mistake, the files and the movie maker save file in external hard disk, when i check on this : my external was not checked, and i did it now, i used ShadowExplorer but the external always empty i dont now y, I CRASHED my keybord.

im a gamer and i have pinnacle studio,which is game recording software. Soo i made a project with a bunch of videos put together and i like a rookie i deleted all the videos because my project was done. afterward when i played the video on pinnacle a big question mark came up and the video didnt show up. so i recovered the videos from the recycle bin and then the videos were still unavailble.only shorcuts for the videos are available for the videos but they dont open up.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy son has managed to break Vista by trying to change the SID and rendering all the user accounts except a guest account account unusable. After many hours of searching i seem to find that the only solution is to reinstall Vista. I cannot log into any dministrator account to gain access to or take possession of the files from the inaccessible accounts that are still on the hard drive but i don't want to lose them as a result of einstalling. I have come up with a plan but have now idea if it will work. If i re-size and move the partition with the busted OS on and reinstall vista on the new partition i will create, will i be able to access the moved partition, take ownership of the files on it from my shiny new administrators account and copy them to the new partition. If anyone has a clue whether this will work please tell me or if there is another solution, i really don't want to lose the photos i hadn't yet managed to back up.

Since the old computer had an ATA drive I couldn't just move the old hard drive to the new SATA system so I have bought an external hard drive kit to connect the old drive to the new system via a USB 2.0 port. My problems is that I can no longer access some encrypted files on the old hard drive.

I tried using them today and HP Recovery manager freezes at 33% during the re-install process. Why is it doing this? It's driving me crazy.

I have 4 GB of RAM installed, but I now see only 3 GB--and when I try to activate ReadyBoost, there is an error message telling me there is already a cache on another device in the system. When I ran recovery, it told me some drivers were corrupted (probably the old hardware) . I ran the motherboard disk and installed the new drivers and to make a long story short, it didn't work. Add that to the fact that I can't find my serial number sticker and I'm screwed. Is there a way to find my serial using the Dos prompt or can windows pull my serial off my hard drive if I reinstall? View 4 Replies View RelatedWhile browsing with Firefox I randomly get a virus notification, and a program pops up masquerading as my windows. I ignore it, and kill the process, named b.exe. AVG reports infection after infection, and after cleaning them all it mentions that I'm required to restart to finish the process. I go to restart, but it's taking forever, and in my impatience I hit the power button. Now windows won't boot - even in safe mode - and it keeps crashing on some ***disk.sys file when trying to boot in safe mode. In normal mode, it blue screens with an error about failing to load a registry cluster. I used a vista cd to do a recovery, and the automatic recovery failed. However, I couldn't delete the files, because apparently some process was using them. CTRL+ALT+DEL doesn't bring up the process menu in recovery mode, and i tried the commands ps, process,pskill and others to no avail

1. I click the Firewall control panel and I get an error "Error loading firewall.cpl. Firewall.cpl is not a valid win32 application" It sure is not valid: when I go to C:WindowsSystem32Firewall.cpl, it shows a file of ZERO bytes!
2. I try to click the Windows program installation/repair/removal control panel, and the window blinks in and out.
It's been 28 months since this Vista installation has been in use, and often rescued in ways that avoided a clean install entirely.
I think it is now time to do the clean install. For one thing, the 100 GB Seagate drive (the one with the bootable Vista partition) after about two years revealed 432 read errors with a region of the hard disk (discovered by 'ddrescue' while using Ubuntu Linux), probably because the HP Pavilion dv9500t like all HP notebooks is notorious for overheating, and this failure to cool damages CPUs and shorten hard disk life.
MY PROBLEM: I am now living on the other side of the world. I made recovery disks using HP's recovery manager, and I think the recovery partition is deleted (not sure), but they were left with relatives on the other side of the world (mistakenly). HP does not answer requests for how to get recovery disks.
QUESTION: I have recovered the product key for the Vista installation using product key recovery software (the Microsoft label on the bottom of the computer is smudged beyond readability, not so for HP's label). Is there a way to download Vista installation somehow and use my product key to autheneticate the installation?
On my computer there are two partitioned drive C: and D: D is recovery disk. Some of files have gone into it which I want to recover. I copied all contents in C but still it does not open. Can any body advice? I do not have administrator password.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI currently have an Asus M50SA laptop running Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit. Recently my hard drive was failing and had to get it repaired. So I used the Windows Back up utility and backed up the entire hard drive to an external 3.5 inch usb hard drive. I then sent my laptop off to get repaired and they took out the hard drive and put a new one in and re-installed Vista for me. However, when I went to run the recovery program from the install disk, it kept coming up with the error that it could not find any backups. Using the command prompt though, I could connect to my USB drive and see the image. What do I need to do to get the recovery software to see the VHD file on the USB drive?

The first thread died] I had this Vista Home Basic machine working okay, but the power went out and then another person who was high used the machine. They named a new user as administrator. I don't know what else they did. Now I have a new user as administrator and the previous users are gone. I still see evidence of them in the file tree but the old programs are gone and the documents are buried in C > Users > Admin (that was a name of a previous user that I had named when I first got the machine)
I've gradually installed some of my old programs and I'm currently just rebuilding everything, but it would be a lot easier if I could revert to the old user system. The Control Panel > add or remove user accounts is useless. I only have two icons there So is there anyway to return to the original condition? How can I recover the missing users?
