When I try to go to the windows update page, it always says "page failed to load." I want to disable the updates because there is a particular one that is installing and messing w/ my mouse!
View 4 RepliesSeveral days ago there was a large number of updates available to download. I allowed the system to update all of them. Three, KB974234, KB972581 and KB973709 it was shown on the update history page as failing to download. Reading as to a possible solution, I tried to load them manually, saving those files to my desktop, right clicking on each, to run as an administrator. After each loaded I got a message telling me they were already installed on my system. My question is why does the "failure" notice remain on my history page and how can I delete those three file entries?

I've looked all around and have found a lot of people with the same or a similar problem but no firm solutions. I haven't used it in maybe a week and it's worked fine up till now. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Vista x64 with 8GB DDR 2 ram, 2x8800GTX cards, 4 hard drives (2x500gb, 1x150gb and 1 raptor 32gb OS). I back up daily, and yesterday encountered a problem requiring a restore. Since System Restore is useless as it didnt save my "create a restore point" I decided to go ahead with my daily Ghost backup (v12.0 used). Hell broke loose. Ghost's always worked fine under XP but Im writing this article for any suggestions on X64 (if its even the problem). You see, when booting from the Ghost CD, what usually happens are one of 2 things:
1) The Symantec page wont even load, the PC will give a BSOD error message until I remove all but 2GB RAM, then Symantec loads etc
2) When RAM removed, Symantec loads, finds the restore point, restores the drive. Then with around 20 seconds to go I get a BSOD (same one as before). Try booting the PC and for a split second you get the BSOD and it restarts.
If you try loading the CD again, you get the BSOD. The only way to get around the BSOD (and to start the whole process again) is to PHYSICALLY remove the hard drive you reinstalled on, format it with a different computer, plug it back in and start over. This was mental! I restored onto a (newly purchased) Raptor drive. No idea what the problem is. Does anyone recommend any new software to backup a whole PC (quickly) and possibly retore itself within Windows, or ways around the problems above?
my os is vista home premium. my isp is verizon and i connect thru an actiontech wireless modem/router. the majority of sites i try to visit with any browser time out. no error message. just a blank page and a swirling load icon that animates indefinitely. i have no problem pinging any address on dos prompt though and most non-browser progs that use the net function perfectly; curiously, i can't sign onto msn messenger but i can sign on to aim and yahoo messenger.
some sites i have no trouble accessing: google, cnn, Internet, ytmnd (homepage only), yahoo (homepage only), and fortunately, this forum. there seems to be no rhyme nor reason why a select few pages are favored.......
Everything was relatively hunky dory until a recent update which prevented my machine from booting. I went to system restore, and it worked. Tried the update again with the same result, and again I did a system restore. Clearly this update is a problem for me. Can anyone tell me how to disable updates?
View 5 Replies View RelatedAbout six weeks ago I had an issue with my computer that seems to be related to an update downloaded at that time. I had Automatic Update set to download and install updates automatically and after one such update, the computer instructed me to restart which I did. All went well until I logged in. The log in screen came up, I logged in and hit enter and the desktop started to load...and froze there. I restarted in safe mode and system restore failed. I called Dell and they walked me through diagnostics until they were fairly sure that it was not a hardware problem. I finally got it to reboot from the Windows disk that came with the computer, but the problem persisted. No error message, no lights, no beeps. Just frozen at the same place at the same time. In addition, each time I had to hold the power button down to reboot, my RAID array would have to 're-verify' the data on both disks which would take about 4 hours before I could even think of doing anything with the box.
Finally Dell had me restore the system from a partition on my hard drive which reset the computer to how it was from the factory... It worked fine till I downloaded the updates again. The last bunch included a Vista security update and a bunch of Office updates. I had to Factory Image reinstall again. I have now shut off my Auto Update. It tells me that there are updates to download, but I have not done any of them in the last month........
I don't use Windows Defender, and I constantly get message to update it. Is there a way to stop these notices?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI had no problems yesterday or ever before. Apparently there was an update last night, and since then my desktop won't start up. It gives me the error saying windowssystem32driversfltmgr.sys will not load. I did a system restore to the system checkpoint before that update last night - to no avail though. I've done the automatic startup checker twice using the vista installation disk, it says there aren't any problems. is there anyway to just replace this fltmgr.sys from another vista machine? won't boot to safe mode, same error. last known good configuration doesn't work.

I installed my vista disc and went through the repair... nada. I then tried a restore... nada... and now am at a loss. Is there a way to copy the file via the Command Prompt to the Vista drive from the dvd? Is it that simple (ha... I know... it never is)?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI used to have Vista Home Basic on my computer. I have a Logitech mouse that came with software, and it displayed a Logitech Mouse and Keyboard icon in the system tray. You could adjust mouse settings, and it told you when your wireless mouse's batteries were dying. So I got a new hard drive and a version of Vista Home Premium. Installed Vista and all of my programs, including the Logitech software. Now when I login I get the message that Windows wants to run setpointupdate.exe and I have to click Allow or Cancel. I never got this message with Vista Home Basic.
I've already Googled setpointupdate.exe and read many posts (including one on this site) saying that you have to go into your Logitech settings and disable automatic updates (tried that, didn't work), or that you had to uninstall your Logitech software all-together. But I want the software - I never change my mouse settings, but I like that the system tray icon warns me when the batteries are dying. Yes, I could uninstall the software and figure out on my own that the batteries are dying (by my mouse stopping working), but why should I have to uninstall this Logitech software? Isn't there a way to tell Windows that setpointupdate.exe is ok to run and that I don't have to click Allow EVERY time I login?
I play a PBE game called VGAPlanets-4 (VGAP4) and an excellent programmer has been making updates, changes, fixes etc... to the original code which was compiled with VB5 I belive. The new code is being written with VB6. The problem is that in order to take benifit of all the new whistles and bells of the new code I need to put a version of "mci32.ocx" into the Windows/System32 directory. I do so and get an error:
"Run-time error '372': Failed to load control 'MMControl' from mci32.ocs. Your version of mci32.ocx may be outdated. Make sure you are using the version of the control that was provieded with your application." I've tried to use regsvr32 to register the ocx but no luck. I've tried multiple versions of the file, no luck. It worked under XP SP3 after using regsvr32.............

It tells me to insert my installation disc and restart your computer however when I do that I go right back to the previous screen which I just described. I already changed the boot order to boot from the DVD drive first however it continues to skip this screen and keeps looping to the same screen. Does anyone know another way to load my disc so I can continue with the repair?.
I built a new system, installing Vista Business 64bit to take full advantage of DX10 and large amounts of memory. Not having many games lying around, I decided to download steam and install Half Life 2. If you are reading this, and using a 64bit edition of windows, then my guess is you are having problems with Half Life 2. I encountered two problems, and after a few hours was able to solve both of them.

I'm trying to update Vista Home Premium, on a laptop I have just purchased.
Everything seems to have gone fine, apart from several updates which have failed.
Some of the failed updates are:
Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (KB948465)
Update for Windows Live Sign-In Assistant (KB967912)
Security Update For Windows Vista (KB967723)
Security Update For Windows Vista (KB970710)
In total there are 43 failed updates, the majority of which are listed as "Important". So, my question is how do I get these installed? I've followed the troubleshooting tips but can't find any help here. I've searched online, but nothing seems to help here either.
I have downloaded Windows Vista Ultimate,and I burned to a CD but I forgott tu make it bootable,so I installed it like a software ,and it works fine.I installed it several times since I downloaded it and always go OK,but last time my windows was damaged,and I was unable to go in,so the only solution was to format my computer.I was not unable to install my Windows Vista Ultimate that I had downloaded because it was not bootable,so I bought e new Vista but with version Home Basic.I installed this windows,but after two days one update come in my computer and told me that my windows is pirated (fallse).When I readed this,I wanted to install my Vista Ultimate like every time,but didn't work,I tried 4 times and still not worked,it showed me that Windows was not successfully installed,and it turned me back to Vista Home Basic.
Now I tried to upgrade to my Vista Ultimate,all steps go OK,but to the step "Completing Upgrade"one error appeared "Windows could not configure one or more features.Please restart your computer and then restart the installation".I have go to Microsoft Support,and I readed that I must disable some features,I have do that and when I tried to upgrade again,it stoped to the step "Expanding Files-21%" and showed me this error"Windows cannot install required files.Make sure all files for the installation are available and restart the installation.Error code:0x800706F8".I don't know what to do now when before I have disable some features,didn't shows me this error and all things go fine until step"Completing Upgrade". I want to install the original version of Vista.
I purchased a new desktop the end of july and it came with vista 64. Ever since then, it has been trying to update with SP2 and it always errors off. Numerous other updates have failed also, .Net comes to mind, but several have installed without any problems. My questions is, since I plan on upgrading to Win 7 in October, is it worth my time to trouble shoot this and try to figure out why some updates do not update?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running Vista Home Premium (64bit version) with Service Pack 1 & have admin rights. I have all the latest drivers (especially for my video card) installed.... I don't want ANY Vista effects AT ALL and have tried for the last couple of days to disable them... all efforts have failed.
A) System Properties --> Advanced (Tab) --> Settings.. (under Performance): I have deselected ALL the checkboxes in BOTH my admin account and also in my non-admin account (using elevated status)... the effects still come back!
B) Personalize appearance and sounds --> Window Color and Appearance : I have purposely NOT chosen any Aero scheme.. I've even tried the bare bones Windows Classic scheme.. still the effects come back... I've even tried changing EVERY single user on the system to a real basic scheme... the effects still come back! In the color scheme selection, under the "effects" button, I have deselected ALL effects!.. but still the effects come back!
C) I have tried "adjust for best appearance" & then "adjust for best performance" (with the intention of resetting the settings!).. the effects still come back! (initially at least they disappear, but as soon as I log out & log back in, or reboot, etc. they come back!) What is interesting is that in my admin account, I don't get any effects (yay!), so the settings DO stick in that account... but I don't want to run my day to day affairs using my admin account and my non-admin account (as well as every single other user on the system) has the bloody effects enabled!!
When I try to perform a wndows update, my 9 month old HP notebook keeps getting hung up or says the download failed. It just says it's downloading the updates but continually says 0 KB total and 0% complete, that goes unchanged for HOURS! I eventually have to stop the download but have several important updates that are waiting to be installed. I dont know what to do. HP says I must remove all saved document and file data and reinstall the whole operating system.

Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service. This problem prevents limited users from logging on to the system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn???t respond. I am running Vista Home Premium.

problem I have is that I do not have vista installation dvd. I am currently studying abroad in Rome and will take more time than I have to receive the dvd in the mail. None of my friends here have one either, but they all have the same make and model computer that I do. Is it possible for one of them create a installation dvd that I could use? Or could they make a recovery disc that could as least get me to the system recovery options screen?

View 4 Replies View Relatedwhen i turn on my computer, an error message comes saying "Windows failed to load because a file is missing or corrupt File: Netio.sys Status: 0xc0000221" This started when i was clearing my computer of useless programs, and after i deleted Realtime player or Quicktime player, (can't remember which) an error message jumped from the taskbar saying something about Network device driver. After that every time i start the computer, the "Windows failed to load" message pops up. The first half a year, it was solved by pressing enter, to "Choose an operating system to start: Windows Vista" and then to "Windows error recovery (start windows normally, safe mode etc)" and back to "Windows failed to start", repeating it 3-20 times. Then i had a familiar "Unexpected shutdown" during a game, and now, the "Enter spamming technique" doesn't work anymore. All i can access at the moment is Windows memory diagnostic tool, and Bios setup utility. Is there any way to fix this through the setup utility or some other manner?

Whilst working through some KB articles I was instructed to "Regsvr32 wbemupgd.dll". The result is a red X and the following message: The module "wbemupgd.dll" failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug to check for problems with the binary. So I searched my hard drive and it seems that "wbemupgd.dll" has gone missing. Any idea where I could get this .dll and why it might have gone missing?
