Fltmgr.sys Failed To Load On Startup
Feb 11, 2009
I had no problems yesterday or ever before. Apparently there was an update last night, and since then my desktop won't start up. It gives me the error saying windowssystem32driversfltmgr.sys will not load. I did a system restore to the system checkpoint before that update last night - to no avail though. I've done the automatic startup checker twice using the vista installation disk, it says there aren't any problems. is there anyway to just replace this fltmgr.sys from another vista machine? won't boot to safe mode, same error. last known good configuration doesn't work.

On start up my laptop dispaly the desktop error message: Could not load or run '""' specified in the registry. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry. This makes no sense to me at all.

When it is turned on it shows the HP logo and options like ESC, F9, F11, etc. But won't load any farther then that. This happened after they just shut it down one night and never worked again. I can't press any options at that screen, it's basically froze, Unless I start pressing it right when i turn the computer one and it will say for ex. above it "loading boot menu". It has never has passed that and gotten onto the POST screen.
Things I have tried- Unplugging various hardware like HD, DVD-ROM, took out the ram and tested one at a time in both slots, took out battery for 20m, reset CMOS from jumper on Mobo. Nothing I do is working. If anyone has an idea I would be more then happy to hear it.

Whenever I try to load vista it seems to be loading fine, but will stop once the icons start filling the taskbar. Sometimes I can try and run a program, but the start bar will freeze and the program will not load, however most of the time it will just freeze before this. It's taking a really long time to even get onto the desktop screen as well. The computer loads fine in Safe Mode (which is where I am typing this from). I have tried startup repair and it says there are no errors, tried to do a bootlog but I don't know where Windows writes the file to(although from a quick search, it appears it's not much use anyway) and I've tried system restore which completed correctly, but did not solve my problem. I actually had this problem a little while ago, and had to reinstall my system from the Dell backup, however I've just moved into digs at Uni and of course all the stuff I would want to reinstall is at home, not to forget that it takes so long. Spec is: Dell Studio 1555 Laptop, Dual Core T4200 Processor @ 2GHz, 4GB RAM, 512MB ATI mobility Radeon HD 4570, running Vista Home Premium 64Bit on SP2

Boot Manager Failed to load - ntoskrnl.exe. brand new to the forums but have been here for the past two days trying everything I can find to try and get my Vista Ultimate machine working again. I shut the computer off the other night before work, came home in the morning and rebooted... and upon loading got a black screen "Windows Boot Manager" coming up asking/telling me to "Repair" the computer. File: Windowssystem32 toskrnl.exe Status: 0xc000098. Info: Windows failed to load because the kernal is missing, or corrupt
I installed my vista disc and went through the repair... nada. I then tried a restore... nada... and now am at a loss. Is there a way to copy the file via the Command Prompt to the Vista drive from the dvd? Is it that simple (ha... I know... it never is)?

Several days ago there was a large number of updates available to download. I allowed the system to update all of them. Three, KB974234, KB972581 and KB973709 it was shown on the update history page as failing to download. Reading as to a possible solution, I tried to load them manually, saving those files to my desktop, right clicking on each, to run as an administrator. After each loaded I got a message telling me they were already installed on my system. My question is why does the "failure" notice remain on my history page and how can I delete those three file entries?

Vista Home Basic SP2. When I try to run Windows update all I get is a blank page that says "The page failed to load". I've looked all around and have found a lot of people with the same or a similar problem but no firm solutions. I haven't used it in maybe a week and it's worked fine up till now. There have been no real changes since I used it last. Does anyone have a clue?

I play a PBE game called VGAPlanets-4 (VGAP4) and an excellent programmer has been making updates, changes, fixes etc... to the original code which was compiled with VB5 I belive. The new code is being written with VB6. The problem is that in order to take benifit of all the new whistles and bells of the new code I need to put a version of "mci32.ocx" into the Windows/System32 directory. I do so and get an error:
"Run-time error '372': Failed to load control 'MMControl' from mci32.ocs. Your version of mci32.ocx may be outdated. Make sure you are using the version of the control that was provieded with your application." I've tried to use regsvr32 to register the ocx but no luck. I've tried multiple versions of the file, no luck. It worked under XP SP3 after using regsvr32.............

I have the Home Premium edition and recently I received the following error:
File: WindowsSystem32tkrnlpa.exe
Status: 0xc0000001
Info: Windows Failed To Load Because The Kernel Is Missing, Or Corrupt
It tells me to insert my installation disc and restart your computer however when I do that I go right back to the previous screen which I just described. I already changed the boot order to boot from the DVD drive first however it continues to skip this screen and keeps looping to the same screen. Does anyone know another way to load my disc so I can continue with the repair?.

I built a new system, installing Vista Business 64bit to take full advantage of DX10 and large amounts of memory. Not having many games lying around, I decided to download steam and install Half Life 2. If you are reading this, and using a 64bit edition of windows, then my guess is you are having problems with Half Life 2. I encountered two problems, and after a few hours was able to solve both of them.
GAME HANGS ON INITIAL LOAD (BLURRY IMAGE SCREEN)
"64-bit" message was at top of screen game never loaded Potential cause: It seems that while steam intended HL2 to have a 64bit edition, with an update along the line (maybe with the release of Left4Dead according to others) the support was broken and the game doesn't load.
Fix:Unfortunately, the fix removes the 64bit potential. In steam, right click half life 2, and select. From the dialogue box, click Enter "-32bit" and select This got HL2 to load, where upon playing I encountered problem number 2.GAMEPLAY CAUSES FULL SYSTEM HANG- Symptoms: After playing for less than 5 minutes, the game would crash and the three fingered salute (ctrl+alt+del) couldn't get me out of it......................

I have a HP Mefia Center that came with XP preloaded and I made recovery disks. They also offered Vista free. I got the Vista and it came with "Upgrade Assistant" I ignored the assistant expecting it was more PR crap. I installed the Vista and it worked ok but I saw that XP was better. The installation did not give any option other than "clean install". After trying to install an old program that failed I started have problems with failed initializing programs including IE7. I was getting data execution prevention errors. On startup I get; Application failed to initialize 0x00000005. A problem caused program to stop working.

In my 64-bit installation, the print spooler server suddenly stopped running (and will not restart). The system log contains many of these:Error Service Control Manager Eventlog Provider7034None The application log contains these:WarningSpoolerSpoolss1035NoneThe print spooler failed to load print provider localspl.dll. when i turn on my computer, an error message comes saying "Windows failed to load because a file is missing or corrupt File: Netio.sys Status: 0xc0000221" This started when i was clearing my computer of useless programs, and after i deleted Realtime player or Quicktime player, (can't remember which) an error message jumped from the taskbar saying something about Network device driver. After that every time i start the computer, the "Windows failed to load" message pops up. The first half a year, it was solved by pressing enter, to "Choose an operating system to start: Windows Vista" and then to "Windows error recovery (start windows normally, safe mode etc)" and back to "Windows failed to start", repeating it 3-20 times. Then i had a familiar "Unexpected shutdown" during a game, and now, the "Enter spamming technique" doesn't work anymore. All i can access at the moment is Windows memory diagnostic tool, and Bios setup utility. Is there any way to fix this through the setup utility or some other manner?

Something seems to be amiss in my Vista install and I am having problem install some things. Whilst working through some KB articles I was instructed to "Regsvr32 wbemupgd.dll". The result is a red X and the following message: The module "wbemupgd.dll" failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug to check for problems with the binary. So I searched my hard drive and it seems that "wbemupgd.dll" has gone missing. Any idea where I could get this .dll and why it might have gone missing?

I am running Vista 64 and installed a program which apparently had a virus or I got it using IE8. I found an entry in the start up tab that was causing a problem. I went into the registry and deleted the item from the startup tab and I also disabled it in the startup tab. The startup tab still shows the item even though it is disabled and deleted from the registry. Why does it still show in MSCONFIG and how do I delete it from the start up entry

I have just puchased my first Windows Vista computer - an HP laptop. I have purchased at leat five laptops since 2000 so I am familiar with setup and
comfortable with installations etc. I have three questions here.
1. My last computer had Windows XP and an 80 gb hard drive with 70 gb full - After copying the data only (55 GB) to my new 250 gb hard drive I have only 107 GB remaining of the 222 GB C drive partition. I have not yet added many programs. That tells me that Vista must be using 50-60 GB or more of the drive. Can that be correct?
2. My new computer takes 5-6 minutes to start up. After two minutes I get the welcome screen. Then the monitor goes black for a full two minutes before continuing the startup process. Is this normal for Vista?
3. Occasionally the monitor goes dark for a few seconds and a window pops up saying the display driver has failed but is back. Is this normal?
I certainly gained no speed with this new computer. There are many things I like about Vista. Since I have no previous experience with owning it I am trying to sort out if this computer is a lemon that should be returned or if I should just put up with the downside.

I am running Vista on a Dell XPS 420. I came home to find both drives failed in a RAID 1 mirror. Dell gave me no help recovering data, but did send two new drives. I have installed Vista on one of the new drives without RAID. I wanted to see if I could recover any files from the failed drives, but I can't seem to get Vista to recognize either of the old drives that were in the failed RAID array. The failed drive does appear during boot up and still shows as part of a failed array. How can I get Vista to recognize the failed drive so that I can then attempt to run file recovery software on it?

I finally decided to upgrade to Vista, and since I have 4GB ram I thought I'd give 64bit a shot. Every game I play crashes, or fails to load at all, or gets into the game and crashes during map load. I have Vista Ultimate 64 installed. I have installed and re-installed the OS multiple times to no effect. I've downloaded all of the windows updates. During one of my first installs of vista, I was able to get in to games of codwaw, but then it would crash after about 5 secs.......

Problems started back in the middle of Sept (1 1/2 months ago). I logged several hrs, over 3 days, over the phone w/ Microsoft Tech support. Unfortunately, were unable to pin point the problem. They said it was probably a conbination of spyware and viruses. Here are some of the issues acurring:
I have 2 accts. Mine, (which has administrator privlages), and a Guest acct. Every time I log in to my administrator account, my desktop does NOT load. A TEMP user account is created. With all new desktop settings, etc. I receive an error message saying that my user profile was/did not load correctly. A Temporary user account has been created. Any changes tothis acct will not be saved. Many of my programs are screwed up. ie; Adobe Reader, Microsoft Word. My Microsoft Word created each time, as if for the first time. But will not load 100%. The only way I am able to access my files, (Docs, music, photos, etc.), is by going to start, go into Computer, click C:/ drive, click on users, click on emilee. And there are all my folders file files.

it seems as though my CPU enjoys spinning up to 100% load. I'm not entirely sure why. It might be because I have an old CPU and motherboard (Athlon 64 3700+, which is, of course, single core and an Asus A8N-32 SLI Deluxe) but it never happened with XP Pro (unless I was doing something super intensive).
So, here's the deal: it sounds like something is spinning up but it's not my hard drives. Could it be the chip fan? It happens when I'm playing video games and, more recently, when I've been loading something even moderately graphics intense on the internets (I use Firefox 3.0.10, which has been crashing a bit lately, but that's not the issue here, hehe). Could it be the graphics card? Though I don't see why that would put a huge load on my CPU. (The card is an nVidia 8800 GT.)
There doesn't seem to be anyone one process that is causing this; the processes with the massive load change while whatever it is is spinning and the CPU is at 100% load.

I installed Vista recently and now, when I've got all updates and I've installed few programs into Windows like Visual Studio, Mobile Device Center, some SDKs etc, every time the system is idle the CPU load is 50%, not exactly, but about 50%.
So I've tried to determine which process makes this CPU load. After Alt Ctrl Delete and Task Manager I haven't got to know anything. I've installed Process Explorer from Sysinternals. He told me process "System" makes this high load. I've tried to "kill" process "System". Yes, load felt down. But this isn't solution because after reboot it's the same.

I have cleaners I have tried but the only thing that works is to restart my machine.
