I am still trying to make a decision about going to Vista. Is there any macro capability in Windows Mail? The absence of macros in Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP is a pain. I did not see the word "macro" in the downloaded messages.

My PC stopped going to sleep when I pressed the sleep button (in fact it crashed); to cut a long story short, I eventually traced the problem to a new sound card I'd installed - disabling the card allows sleep to work normally. (I see that the card manufacturer, M-Audio, includes a note in its FAQ to the effect that none of its cards will work with sleep. Great.)
I'm now faced with the prospect of having to navigate through Control Panel and the Device Manager to disable the card every time I want to put the PC to sleep, and then the same performance to re-enable to card when I wake it up.
Does anyone know if it's possible to run a series of commands when the sleep button is pressed so that it disables the card before going to sleep? I suppose I'm asking if there's a way that someone who's only semi-technical could write a macro and apply it to the button - or is this just cloud cuckoo land?
I am trying to get an excel spreadsheet macro to function in excel 2007 on a Vista Business OS. it runs fine in excel 2007 on XP pro OS. Is there a known work-around for this? It is obviously an issue with Vista.

View 3 Replies View Relatedsome of you might recognize me from the windows 7 forums, this is my first post here. I have never used vista except to help my friends so I am not very familiar with it, but it's very close to the windows 7 interface so it's not that hard to learn. My friend has Vista and has a problem with her wireless. she has a lenovo R61i Laptop. the router is linksys WRT54GC. randomly the wireless capability gets disabled even though the physical switch is not changed ( is always on ), this happens usually when the PC is restarted or when the router is restarted. sometimes we restart the PC or the router but it doesn't occur, so I cannot re-create the problem easily.
I googled a bit and saw some people suggesting this could be because the wireless service is not set to automatic, so I checked services and the only service that seems to have to do with the wireless is the WLAN service, and it is set to automatic and started. all we have to do is just do diagnose and vista will say that the solution to the problem is found , which is to enable the wireless capability, so I click on that and it will enable wireless and everything will work. but for my friend is it confusing as she thinks there is a problem with her internet connection or her router, I told her it is a simple bug with vista ( I think ) and I will look for a solution.
So What else can I check? we had limited time today but tomorerow I will try more things, maybe I will try an update for the wireless driver. btw it is an intel built-in wirless. I thought I would ask if any of you have run into an issue like this and what did you do to reslove it. sounds to me like a bug with vista as I said but not really sure...Windows Update is turned on, so I asume the latest updates for vista are installed but i did not check if SP1 is installed or not.
I am using Windows Vista Ultiamte SP1. I read that they would be incorporating Firewire 800(1394B)capability with SP1.

When I moved to Vista the old driver no longer worked and the Vista driver did not provide any capability for monitoring ink levels. Does anyone know of a utility that would allow me to see the ink levels in a HP g95 all-in-one printer under the Vista OS?
I have just purchased a new computer from Dell and assumed I would have some problems learning a new OS, but I did not anticipate the loss of a good applet like Microsoft Fax. I counted on this small program for occasional direct communication with other facilities fax machine. It was quick and easy.
I have a second older Dell computer which I invested with hardware updates in preparation for upgrading to Vista as well. The lack of fax capability in Vista precludes my upgading as I need one machine that can function in a more complete manner. I don't pretend to understand the rationale behind this lack in Vista but I sorely miss the function. Others have teased me about my early adoption of Vista and now I am definitely embarrassed. I sincerely hope Microsoft will reconsider this situation and perhaps at least offer a download correction to improve the functionality of this Vista suite......
I have a problem with the switch button for my wireless network adapter on my laptop. It doesn't turn the radio on when the laptop restarts. I suppose, it stays on off no matter what the button position is. So at every boot one has to:
- wait until it fails, (so all programs needing network at startup fail too)
- click on the network icon in the system tray, diagnose and repair
- wait for Vista to work out that there is no wireless connectivity,
- click on turn on wireless connectivity then wait until Vista repairs itself.
After that is works happily until the next reboot. I repeat - it is not some software option. The on/off switch doesn't work (nor the function key). Question 1 Can I switch on the connectivity on startup to allow this to happen seamlessly. Is there a cmd command which I can setup to run at startup.
Question 2 Is there some way of creating a shortcut which would allow the click of one button rather than going through the learning experience each time that the connectivity requires to be switched on.
I am installing a new Gigabyte mobo (MA78GM-US2H) in an HP Media Center Case. The pin layout between the case & mobo is nearly the same except that the HD LED and the Power LED are reversed on the new mobo. The power switch pins are correct. The case does not have reset capability. Does it matter that the two LED pin connectors are reversed or should I attempt to change the wires coming from the case?
View 4 Replies View Relateda friend has a new sony vaio with vista home premium installed. For some reason it will not connect to my netgear router wirelessly. I have tried everything. I am however not too hot on Vista as this is my first time with it. The adaptor says its on, but when you interegate it and ask why it wont connect it keeps telling me "switch on wireless adaptor capability". In the network connections it is on, the switch on the front right is swiitched on and the wireless network light on the front is on. The network is fine and working as i have my laptop connected to it. All security is present and entered. It seems to be the computer as it doesnt find any networks when there are loads in the area. Am i missing something exceptionally obvious? Does Vista have another "on" switch for this adaptor?

Every time I open Windows Mail up, or the news groups, I get a message saying Windows mail isn't my default mail program, and asks if I want it to be. How stable is Windows Live Mail? Does it convert your old Windows Mail messages and keep storing messages on your computer, or only online? And what about Contacts? Is there something good to read to read about moving from Windows Mail to Windows Live Mail? The material at is pretty superficial.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhat, if any, inferences can be drawn from the fact that there are typically three times more posts about Windows Mail (WM) than Windows Live Mail (WLM). Could it be that:
(a) WM is more troublesome than WLM (in view of the greater complexity of WLM this seems improbable)?
(b) Many more people use WM (seems probable - I wonder what the figures are)?
(c) A higher proportion of technically savvy users are likely to be early adopters of Windows 7 who have to find an alternative to WM. Some then migrate to a non-Microsoft email client such as Thunderbird, while those that try WLM find they can master it with few problems (plausible)?
My feeling is that there seem to be an awful lot of folk hanging on to WM and that they might be put off updating to Windows 7 because neither WM (nor Outlook Express) will not be available (at least not in a securely supported version) to run on it.
