I have a scanner Visioneer one touch 8820 USB that worked good on Windows XP home I was just wondering if it will work on Windows Vista 64 Home Premium if I ran it under capability mode I would hate to have to get a new one
View 4 RepliesI am testing VISTA Ultimate and find that I cannot get any of my older scanners to scan - nor can I find VISTA drivers for them. I have
1) HP PSC950 AIO (It prints however)
2) MUSTEK 1200LP
3) UMAX POWERLOOK II
Anyone out there have any luck getting any of the above to scan in VISTA? If so, how did U do it? Did you find driver(s) somewhere?
I was told that I should scan the file wklnhst.dat (properties say its a DAT file, 11KB) in order to get rid of it. It was in APPDATA/ROAMING - not in a folder- just on it's own, the last item there. This after having my machine repaired of all kinds of malware. But this particular item was never mentioned by the original person cleaning the machine. Not sure if they saw it.
I scanned with with a-squared, Superanti-Spyware and Malwarebytes (all are updated and I have the real time version of a-squared which is always running. None of them report it as malware/nothing is being detected when I scan it (or scan the whole C drive). Do I really need to remove this? I know dates can be falsified but it says it was created and then accessed on the same date around when I bought it and started using it (the computer). Then it was "updated" this year in June (not by me). If I should remove it but the scanners aren't picking anything up can I just delete it or is that too dangerous?

I have never used vista except to help my friends so I am not very familiar with it, but it's very close to the windows 7 interface so it's not that hard to learn. My friend has Vista and has a problem with her wireless. she has a lenovo R61i Laptop. the router is linksys WRT54GC. randomly the wireless capability gets disabled even though the physical switch is not changed ( is always on ), this happens usually when the PC is restarted or when the router is restarted. sometimes we restart the PC or the router but it doesn't occur, so I cannot re-create the problem easily.
I googled a bit and saw some people suggesting this could be because the wireless service is not set to automatic, so I checked services and the only service that seems to have to do with the wireless is the WLAN service, and it is set to automatic and started. all we have to do is just do diagnose and vista will say that the solution to the problem is found , which is to enable the wireless capability, so I click on that and it will enable wireless and everything will work. but for my friend is it confusing as she thinks there is a problem with her internet connection or her router, I told her it is a simple bug with vista ( I think ) and I will look for a solution.
So What else can I check? we had limited time today but tomorerow I will try more things, maybe I will try an update for the wireless driver. btw it is an intel built-in wirless. I thought I would ask if any of you have run into an issue like this and what did you do to reslove it. sounds to me like a bug with vista as I said but not really sure...Windows Update is turned on, so I asume the latest updates for vista are installed but i did not check if SP1 is installed or not.
I am using Windows Vista Ultiamte SP1. I read that they would be incorporating Firewire 800(1394B)capability with SP1.

When I moved to Vista the old driver no longer worked and the Vista driver did not provide any capability for monitoring ink levels. Does anyone know of a utility that would allow me to see the ink levels in a HP g95 all-in-one printer under the Vista OS?
I have just purchased a new computer from Dell and assumed I would have some problems learning a new OS, but I did not anticipate the loss of a good applet like Microsoft Fax. I counted on this small program for occasional direct communication with other facilities fax machine. It was quick and easy.
I have a second older Dell computer which I invested with hardware updates in preparation for upgrading to Vista as well. The lack of fax capability in Vista precludes my upgading as I need one machine that can function in a more complete manner. I don't pretend to understand the rationale behind this lack in Vista but I sorely miss the function. Others have teased me about my early adoption of Vista and now I am definitely embarrassed. I sincerely hope Microsoft will reconsider this situation and perhaps at least offer a download correction to improve the functionality of this Vista suite......
I am still trying to make a decision about going to Vista. Is there any macro capability in Windows Mail? The absence of macros in Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP is a pain. I did not see the word "macro" in the downloaded messages.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with the switch button for my wireless network adapter on my laptop. It doesn't turn the radio on when the laptop restarts. I suppose, it stays on off no matter what the button position is. So at every boot one has to:
- wait until it fails, (so all programs needing network at startup fail too)
- click on the network icon in the system tray, diagnose and repair
- wait for Vista to work out that there is no wireless connectivity,
- click on turn on wireless connectivity then wait until Vista repairs itself.
After that is works happily until the next reboot. I repeat - it is not some software option. The on/off switch doesn't work (nor the function key). Question 1 Can I switch on the connectivity on startup to allow this to happen seamlessly. Is there a cmd command which I can setup to run at startup.
Question 2 Is there some way of creating a shortcut which would allow the click of one button rather than going through the learning experience each time that the connectivity requires to be switched on.
I am installing a new Gigabyte mobo (MA78GM-US2H) in an HP Media Center Case. The pin layout between the case & mobo is nearly the same except that the HD LED and the Power LED are reversed on the new mobo. The power switch pins are correct. The case does not have reset capability. Does it matter that the two LED pin connectors are reversed or should I attempt to change the wires coming from the case?
View 4 Replies View RelatedUsing my ISP (Roadrunner Carolinas) speed test site; I get around 200 to 400 kbps download speeds using IE in normal mode. If I boot to Safe Mode, I get around 3500 to 4500 kbps, which is what it should be (this is what I used to get in normal mode before I re-installed Vista). Running the same speed test with Firefox, I get around 1500 to 2000 kbps in normal mode, but if I try to download a file it ransfers at only the 200 to 400 kbsp rate (if I'm lucky). Here's more detail about the system and what I've done so far:
Installed all updates including SP2.
Using Windows Firewall, no anti-virus.
Updated network drivers directly from NVidia (Chipset is nForce750i)
Updated graphics card drivers directly from NVidia
Disabled all LAN protocols except for Client for Microsoft Networks and IPv4
Connected via ethernet cable directly to cable modem, no router.
I've deliberately refrained from loading anything but the basics until I can get this sorted out..........

View 5 Replies View Relateda friend has a new sony vaio with vista home premium installed. For some reason it will not connect to my netgear router wirelessly. I have tried everything. I am however not too hot on Vista as this is my first time with it. The adaptor says its on, but when you interegate it and ask why it wont connect it keeps telling me "switch on wireless adaptor capability". In the network connections it is on, the switch on the front right is swiitched on and the wireless network light on the front is on. The network is fine and working as i have my laptop connected to it. All security is present and entered. It seems to be the computer as it doesnt find any networks when there are loads in the area. Am i missing something exceptionally obvious? Does Vista have another "on" switch for this adaptor?

My troubles began when my cd/dvd was not operating properly. Toshiba support said my operating system was corrupt. I didn't believe that just because the cd/dvd wasn't working properly that the os is corrupt, maybe they were right.
I have extremely important info on my hd as I do taxes for a living.
In an effort to trouble shoot the cd/dvd I booted into safe mode. No-one tole me that the administrator account is disabled by default! So now I can't get out of safe mode. I have access to only my limited user account and uac is enabled. System restore doesn't change boot options.
I can't edit registry = access denied, cmd.exe when trying to activate administrator account = system error 5.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy DVD R/W device failed and I purchased a Pioneer DVR-K17 replacement which is a dual layer DVD R/W device. It appeared to install correctly and automatically under Vista.
I noticed a problem when I tried to play a DVD, it was stuttering. I went to the device manager and tried to set the drive to DMA mode, since it was in PIO. The settings will not "stick". It always reverts to PIO. I have tried to find a way into the BIOS of this notebook, but there is very limited access to any settings by hitting the F2 key just after powering up. I cannot see anything anywhere on the internet on how to make this work.
I had an issue with one of my games and it directed me to go into safe mode to uninstall it. Now that it's uninstalled, I can't get out of safe mode. I've been through this forum in and out. I've done nearly all the things that it has stated that come close to my issue. I'm still in here. I've been in and out for 3 hours now. I've gone through the msconfig, and told it to restart in normal mode, I'm still in safe mode. I've used the F8 button while starting it, and told it to go to safe mode, I'm still here. I've even checked to see if it was the resolution, I've set it to my default settings of 1280x720, and restart it, it's still in safe mode. I've done EVERYTHING that I can think of.

If this is true, then will email also download from the server if the Windows Mail program is left on and maximized and the DSL modem is left on? Because the modem runs hot I usually turn it off at night, along with the computer, but I'm having problems with the server, who returns email to senders because the server only allows a small amount of bandwidth to collect in each user's webmail box.

I press f5 or is it f8. but either way I get to the Safe Mood Selection screen and no matter what option I select, Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Prompts, of Safe Mood with Network support, it doesn't matter it boots normal to my user sign in screen and then it freezes.. no mouse or keyboard functions... If I run the recovery disk and tool options then mouse and keyboard work but I still cannot boot up in safe mode nor can I boot up normal.. I just need to get into safe mode and then I believe I can resolve this but since I can't get into safe mode I don't know what else to do?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to download a free CPU temps monitor this afternoon without success and now I seem to have been left with something unwanted on my desk top.
When I'm just looking at the wallpaper and bottom bar ie I've just booted up, I've got the words Test Mode written in all 4 corners of the screen plus Microsoft(R)Windows(R)(Build 6001;Service Pack 1) written at the top middle.
This must have been left over from one of the temp monitors I tried and then uninstalled.
First I tried Real Temp 2.70 and that installed but then I realised I had to pay for it so I uninstalled with Revo Uninstaller. I then tried Speed Fan and Motherboard Monitor but these didn't like Kaspersky and looked like more trouble than they were worth so I uninstalled them as well.
Now I'm stuck with these words on my screen. They are quite small but still intrusive.
