How do I go about running in an 'elevated mode' in Vista Home Premium?
I am being told not to have enough priveliges, although I have chosen
'administrator'.
The question arises when going into 'command prompt'.
Is there any way to configure vista to always run a given exe file in elevated mode? I am trying to avoid the loved UAC dialog box messages for my program.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just installed Vista x64, so maybe I just haven't found some feature somewhere to fix this, but I installed the 64-bit version of Daemon Tools, but when I looked at the Task Manager, it's running in 32-bit mode. I've looked everywhere for people having the same issue, but I can't find anything anywhere about this. I've also tried installing a few other things that are supposed to be 64-bit programs, but they all want to install in the Program Files (x86) folder and even if I install them in the regular Program Files folder they still only run in 32-bit mode. Does anybody know why this is or how I can fix it?

My bios post screen is telling me that its running in 4300 mode & that my cpu only does 2.2ghz in my bios system information (it does 2.83ghz as confirmed by cpu-z)./ Bios for my board, p5w64, is latest 1201 and has been reset before i installed cpu. first off i just want to know if my ram is running at 6400 mode while in windows. then ill try and sort the bios out.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using an HP a6827c dual channel 64 bit machine and have been trying to disable the completely the admin control system using a solution from this forum by going to an elevated command prompt and typing a command string. the instructions say to type using "Bold" characters. (Does not work in regular font)(I tried that). How does one change to bold font in the command prompt window?
I'm a beginner at this and especially in Vista. DOS was such a long time ago so I need help badly. I understand that doing away with admin controls compromises security but plan to switch back after I clean up some of the files that I can't seem to delete now. I have been working with the Brink reply 6/1/07 and like someone else I read about on one of the posts, I feel that if we own our computer, are the only administrators and users, that we should have total control and not the computer or MS.
I have a quesiton which has been bugging me since we rolled out Vista to our desktops almost a years ago....Whenever I have to go to a users PC to install a new device (USB Storage Key for example) I usually have to spend about 10 minutes there as the Elevated Privileges dialoge box will pop up several times, as each component of the device tries to install itself...Is there any way to set this up so that when you apporve a device or installation, all the drivers and components for that device are also approved for install - it's quite frustratring having to spend 10 minutes doing a task which should take 30 seconds!
View 6 Replies View RelatedUsing my ISP (Roadrunner Carolinas) speed test site; I get around 200 to 400 kbps download speeds using IE in normal mode. If I boot to Safe Mode, I get around 3500 to 4500 kbps, which is what it should be (this is what I used to get in normal mode before I re-installed Vista). Running the same speed test with Firefox, I get around 1500 to 2000 kbps in normal mode, but if I try to download a file it ransfers at only the 200 to 400 kbsp rate (if I'm lucky). Here's more detail about the system and what I've done so far:
Installed all updates including SP2.
Using Windows Firewall, no anti-virus.
Updated network drivers directly from NVidia (Chipset is nForce750i)
Updated graphics card drivers directly from NVidia
Disabled all LAN protocols except for Client for Microsoft Networks and IPv4
Connected via ethernet cable directly to cable modem, no router.
I've deliberately refrained from loading anything but the basics until I can get this sorted out..........

I want to switch to Win Vista Home Premium soon, but i read somewhere about the requierments and it said right there that Vista needs a 40 GB HDD with 10-15 GB free. So my questions is : Can i install Vista on that 36 gb or not ? ~ im not quite sure, thats why i'm asking.

I am considering a purchase of a new PC running Windows Vista 64 bit. I have some questions.
Will some of my 32 bit programs run on Vista 64 bit? I am thinking about Firefox 3 and Thunderbird 2 especially. Does Vista 64 have a compatibility mode where I can run 32 bit applications? If yes, does the compatibility mode actually work?
I am planning on some multimedia work recording music and video. I know that I need a second hard drive. One for the OS and one to record to. The model of PC that I am considering has a RAID configuration using two hard drives. How would these drives appear to me in Vista 64 bit? As one drive? As two? If it is one drive, can I set a partition to have the two drives I need? If so, are partitions difficult to setup?
What are your opinions on the 64 bit system? Is this the future and eventually everything will be going 64 bit, or will it fade out as a good idea that never happened? The PC I am looking at is expensive and I wish to know if it will be useful for a long time.
Is Vista 64 going to be the current OS and more and more companies will be supporting it? Is Vista going to be around for a long time? I am seeing buzz about Windows 7. When would Windows 7 be out and would it require 64 bit?
I played games on Vista like Settlers 4, NFS U2, Half Life 2, UFO Aftermath, Baldurs Gate 2...
All games goes well but the loading time was a bit longer than on XP.

I received the error message "Web sites cannot be started unless both the Windows Activation Service (WAS) and the World Wide Web Publishing Service (W3SVC) are running. Both services are currently stopped."
At another point I received the error "The 'password' attribute is invalid". I have tried to uninstall and re-install the "Internet Information Services" a number of times but after a lenghty period this service will not un-install or an error is thrown. I have not been able to access the local web server on this Vista installation even once since installation. This problem was there from the initial installation of Vista Ultimate. The installation was an upgrade of XpSp2.
I have Windows Vista Home Premium, and one of these days I saw that the processes svchost.exe should be running. I open my Windows Task Manager, and there is no svchost.exe anywhere. Not a single one!

When you click on the Start button and you see the desktop name, they are listed as the exact same name, one under the other. In Windows explorer under the desktop name, the name of the second desktop appears in alphabetical order in the same directory as Documents, Downloads, Favorites, etc. The path for this second exact desktop is c:users. how to get rid of this desktop. Everytime I try to delete it, it says it is open (because of course it is a mirror copy of what I am running).

I have read that the 32 bit version (which I'm running) can only see about 3GB although it reports 4GB. Is there any reason why I should not consider moving to the 64 bit version? If not does your MB make a difference as I use a Gigabyte GA-EP35C-DS3R mobo.
