My user profile was corrupted. Basically, windows ran an update whilst i was backing up and that corrupted my user account. I have tried the methods on this forum to restore the account and have tried a system restore with no success. I wan't to keep the files from my user account but how can I access or recover them?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI think I've found why my hdd inexplicably has 20gb less hd space available than it should... it's in the AppData folder of my older user profile that corrupted and has since been replaced. And now I can't the profile folder or the AppData within it, and i really do need that 20gb as i'm on my last .7, and certain programs have decided they don't want to work under such paltry conditions. It stopped showing up in the UA window in the control panel when in corrupted, but it's still there in c:/windows/users, so I can't remove it the 'right' way. i've tried unchecking the read-only box, but progress stopped about halfway through. (An error occoured applying attributes to the file: xxxx. Access is denied. Ignore?) Also, is it normal for AppData to be ~20gb on a non-corrupted profile? I'm running Vista 32 home basic

I have copied them and installed them on to a computer with windows Vista and Works 9 When I open the template I get the following message. "There was an error loading data, your document appears to corrupted. Click yes to continue loading and display other errors, or click no to continue loading and suppress further errors. "Nothing happens if I click yes, but if I click no I get another message that says " 34 errors were found when database was opened." Click ok and the template opens and works ok, but things are missing in the template when you print it out. Is there a way to repair the errors?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Vista Home Premium 32bit operating system that came with my computer. It had a recovery partition and prompted me to make recovery CDs at the beginning. I did as asked, and my recovery cds turned out to be bad when I tried to use them recently, they wouldnt boot. My recovery partition also seems to be corrupted, also failing to ever boot properly. So being that my computer is out of warranty, I cant get much in the way of customer support, and they keep trying to sell me recovery discs.
I have the product key for my vista installation on the computer. And I have a set of vista installation cds from another computer. Both Vista installations are identical, they are both Vista Home Premium 32bit. Can I use the product key from the installation that's messed up, to reinstall Vista with the installation CDs? Are the product keys interchangeable between two installs of the same version of windows?
One minute it was working, then next minute it wasnt. The Flash drive is a 16GB USB 2.0 made by ByteStor. I have poked around various places, but no software ive come across works - so far. It is recognized by any PC I shove it into as a drive of some sort - But it cant be accessed, whilst claiming it has no space or storage.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI had a cpu fan die and the computer would not turn on, so i thought it was my hard drive. Replaced the hard drive and installed Vista but not completely. Then found that the cpu fan wasn't working, replaced that and put my old drive back in. Now when Vista starts up i get an error screen asking to press enter. When pressing enter i get a choice of 2 vista installations. Only one works, the old one, so i always choose that. For me its not a problem but this freaks out the other employees here. So i need to get rid of the half completed installation. How do i do this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently rebuilt my machine (see system specs) and when I went to pop in my old HDD as a secondary drive to pull some files from it, Windows decided it needed to run chkdsk on it. I tried to stop it, as this is a 500GB drive so I knew it would take forever, but I couldn't stop it. So after a few hours, it finished and let me in, but now all of the files are missing. This was my old C: (primary) drive, so it should have Windows, Users, Program Data, etc folders but it doesn't. it just has a few empty folders (Nvidia, Intel...) However when you check the properties of the disk, it shows that several GB's are used, so I know my data is around there somewhere. Changing the folder options to view hidden does not help. The OS on this disk was Vista Ultimate 32-bit.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI had my hard drive from my laptop die a few days ago. I was able to recover almost all of the files except for a few Windows file to an external hard drive enclosure. The old laptop was a Vista Home Premium unit and the new laptop is Ultimate. If it's of any consequence or usefulness, the recovery software I used was from R-Studio. How my files and programs to the new laptop I'm using? I contact Gateway for support and they were useless. Windows was not the issue, it was a faulty hard drive.

I'm using a Compaq SR5410F with Vista and have been dealing with the standard "out of range" message quite frequently. I'm aware of the "out of range" fix but I have a 22" LCD and do alot of graphics, 800x600 doesn't suit me, XP gave me better than 1024x960 and I don't think that Vista is the OS for me but when I bought this computer it was only offered with Vista.

I know this would be done through boot.ini however i have no idea how to do so. Also id make a seperate partition on my hd of ten gigs just for the backup image.

The other accounts that were Administrator and a new Administrator account would still not allow IE7 to work properly unless "run as Administrator". When I turn UAC off, the problems go away.

Do you want to empty the Recycle Bin for this drive?" There is a choice for Yes and No. When I choose "Yes" the notice posted that it is "Deleting 1 item (2.28 KB)" and the progress bar indicates activity. When I click on the "More information" button, I find it is indicating: Time remaining: Calculating...Items remaining: Discovered 1 item (2.28 KB)... Speed: Calculating...This morning I started the process and went out for breakfast. On my return an hour and one-half later it was still running. When I open the Recycle Bin, no items show, but the the dreaded messsages appears. I will close only when clicking the "No" button twice.

I saw this problem addressed last year by Gary, but I didn't see it actually get corrected. When they are recovered, they're headers only, no content in them. I had the Confiker Virus about 6 weeks ago and this seemed to start around the same time. View 9 Replies View RelatedWhenever i download a file such as .msi installer, .exe executable, or .zip archive with IE and run it, it crashes (not IE but the file that was downloaded.) This recently started happening on my Home Premium 64-bit Vista installation, and the problem remains after reinstalling Vista two times from scratch. If the file was downloaded on another PC and saved to a flash drive, it runs fine on Vista. I have tried the sfc /scannow command, as well as disabling any firewall, antivirus, etc. and changing the IE settings. This occurs on a clean installation of Windows Vista also. View 9 Replies View Relatedhave vista home basic x32 and have been having recycle bin problems for 2wks now. i have tried things listed here on links i found to fix recycle bin, dont work. i was told it could be my mcafee virus protection because its known to cause problems. i had some trojans and virus, but have since then gotten rid of it all completely, and at that time thats when the bin started acting up wont empty, shows its full on desktop and pic of it IN the bin folder shows its full/empty click to empty and hear the sound but nothing happens. i send stuff to the bin then i open the bin and nothing SHOWS that its there. yet if i click empty recycle bin box comes up and says are you sure you want to perm delete etc etc, so that shows there are files in there but nothing shows in the folder like i said its all a mess and there has to be a way to fix it cant i completely delete it and all that goes with it and start over with creating a new one?

My laptop (Hp Pavilion dv6500 Notebook Pc) had a crash yesterday but after shutting it down and restarting it, all seemd to be normal. But today when I wanted to play some Generals I got a nasty suprise. I started up the game and I got a message saying I didn't have the right directx version. This is weird since I've been playing the game for almost a year now on this laptop. Anyway, I thought maybe something got corrupted after the crash. I startend another game just to make sure and it too gave me an error that I didn't had a proper directx version.
So I checked dxdiag and it said I had directx 10 as my latest version, which is what I had before the crash. I've updated all my drivers, reinstalled directx and reinstalled my games but nothing seems to work. I hope someone could point me out a direction that might help me fix this problem. I'm a student I seriously need my games for some relaxation .
My IE has some how been corrupted and now will not work no matter what i do, is there a way i can delete it and re install it? I have admin access and it still would not let me delete ie from my pc?
