Dell laptop Inspiron 1545, WRT54GS - "Connected With Limited Access" - drove me up the wall. Tried everything. Browsed other forums for hours. What did I do? Just for grins, and for NO particular reason, I switched from WEP to WPA Personal / TKIP in the router and to WPA / TKIP in the laptop and other PC, entered the ten-char key I've always used, and POOF - instant connection.

i have a netgear wireless router, one desktop pc connected to it with a Ethernet cable (still working fine) and a hp laptop running vista connected thought wireless everything was working fine until one day the wireless on the laptop just stopped working and gave the message connected with limited access i have disconnected from the network and tried to reconnect however all i get is connection unsuccessful then i go to diagnose the problem and have been given some suggestions by windows help i have checked my driver and they are all up to date i have also checked that both ipv4 and ipv6 protocols are ticked in the config for wireless networking, my adapter says working fine and i have checked that my WEP keys are still the same.

I was able to connect to the network before, but I think I accident;y changed something. It is now showing my network as a public network. It continually says "Identifying. Public Network)" in the Network and Sharing Center. Access is Limited connectivity. Also I am NOT able to access the Customize link in the NaS Center like I was before.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got a friends laptop to repair. I've determined that at least the boot files are damaged. I've connected the hard drive to my own PC in an attempt to recover the files from the drive. Unfortunately, my PC says that access is denied when I try to browse the drive. In the disk manager I can see the drive. I've gone onto the drive and updated the permissions on all the files to allow full access for administrators and users, yet I still cannot access the drive. I know that the content of the drive is still there because I COULD see the filenames zipping on the screen while the system was updating permissions. (That shouldn't work if I don't have permission, should it?) If I boot from an installation CD and try to access the drive from a recovery console it asks for the password for that Windows installation. I enter the only password that is on the laptop, but it does not work. There is only one user on the laptop, so that SHOULD be the password.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my Vista Home Premium x64 to SP2 on 8/28. No problem until 8/31. Now I cannot get on the internet regardless of firefox, IE, or Chrome. The Windows Network Diagnostics did not find any problems. The network and Sharing center shows that I am connected to my network and then to the internet with no issues. IPv4 = Internet. IPv6 = limited.
Steps completed thus far:I rebooted the cable modem and the router (linksys wrt54g) I successfully pinged the x64 computer with a different cpu on the network. Status activity shows bytes sent and received successfully on the x64 system. I tried to system restore prior to SP2 upgrade but says failed, however System properties show that running SP1. I updated network card driver (intel 82567lf-2) to most recent - 7/23 I ran the Intel network card diagnostics and all test were sucessful Booted into safe mode with networking. Unsuccessful. Ran Hijackthis, nothing unusual. I am at a loss of what to do. I do even know how to describe the situation succinctly enough to search and see if others have had the same problem.
I am running vista on a hp laptop. I can connect to the local network, but can't connect to the login website. I have tried several fixes including disableing ipv6. I feel the issue is when Im attempting to connect to this wifii public unsecure network Im unable to receive the redirect to the terms of use page. in the network sharing center it shows me conected to the local network but not to the internet.
View 0 Replies View RelatedI have my wife's and my own desktops (both XP Home) and my laptop (Vista Home Premium) all connected to the same ADSL modem. I want to set permissions so that I can access and do what I want with any file on any machine from any other machine.
On the XP machines this was a breeze. I can access either machine from any other machine and do whatever I want. But on the Vista machine, I'm prevented from doing this. The only files on the Vista machine that I can access from the XP machines are in the "Public" folder. I can't access the Vista machine's root menu or even the files in my own folder from the XP machines. When I try, I get this complaint:
You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied. "T-pc" is the name of the name of the laptop in the "Workgroup" and "rlb" is my folder. I'm the administrator, so where do I go from here? How do I make Vista let the other machines access my files?
I am using vista ultimate, I noticed that under properties in my computer/remote,the box is checked for remote access?,as I am not connected to any networks,is this neccessary?,can I un tick the box?,or do I just leave it?

I have the file and printer sharing stuff turned on on the laptop. Also I am running AVG on both systems and I have the Windows firewall enabled on both. My Vista 64bit Ultimate notebook connects directly to a wireless network, from which it gets internet connectivity. I can visit any webpage and see all network devices, so things seem to be working great on the server side.
My other computer, the ICS client, runs 32bit XP pro and is set up to connect to the internet through my notebook. Between the two PCs is a spare buffalo WHR-HP-G54. I can see all network devices, but it fails to connect to most websites. It will display Google and *some* pages from Time Warner Cable, but I cannot get to Wiki pages, my favorite forums, or download updates for anything on my desktop PC. Based on the status bar of my browser, which usually gets as far as "Transferring data from ", it seems the communication problem is limited to incoming streams........

I then unshared it but something went wrong and said the hard drive would be in a mixed state if i didn't continue the operation fully. i ignored it(idiot) and carried on. but now i cant access my C drive directly but i can access my documents. i was thinking i would just system restore it but i cant even access that and i cant back up my files either. but i can access them. View 9 Replies View RelatedAbout 3 days ago I was downloading a file when I noticed the download had stopped half-way through. Thinking the router had frozen I unplugged the router to reset it, as I have done a hundred times before with no problem. After restarting the router Vista (Home Premium 32-bit SP1) stopped recognizing my home network (wired) and I started receiving a "Limited Connectivity" message. When I go into the Network & Sharing screen I see "Unknown Network". When I boot this same computer into Ubuntu (7.10) I can access my network and the internet. I also have a small Ubuntu server and Xbox 360 that can access the network just fine. This is definitely a Vista issue. After trying many, many suggestions (Unplug router, Reset router, IP refresh,...) from around the internet with no success, I purchased a new PCI Ethernet card (Netgear GA311) just to rule out a possible hardware issue. I unistalled the onboard lan in Vista and disabled it in the BIOS then installed the new card. No Luck, Same Problem. My router is a Netgear FWG114P. I have had this network for over a year with no issues and now, out of the blue, nothing. I tried re-entering the IP, Subnet, Default Gateway and DNS addresses for the ethernet adapter, NO LUCK. I did notice a strange issue when I ran "Ipconfig /all" The default gateway was shown as "0.0.0.0". After re-entering the gateway address, the gateway was listed as "0.0.0.0" with my gateway address listed below.
