I was using Microsoft Outlook Express as my mail client. Then Microsoft advised users to update to Windows Mail since they no longer supported Outlook Express..so I did. Now Microsoft is directing users to install Microsoft LIVE Mail? What is the difference between Microsoft Mail (which I am running) and Microsoft LIVE Mail....and, why would a user run LIVE over MAIL?

some of us want to choose what "gets out" and what doesn't. And this info doesn't work since there is nowhere to make such a change in the Windows Firewall window that comes up. Configure it - HOW? Can some one explain how it's configured to actually work without being a programmer writing strange unknown confusing rules for everything that wants to connect to the net? If not, can someone recommend a good free easy to use two-way FireWall like ZoneAlarm that's compatible with Vista?
unfortunately, the outbound filtering has been disabled. I'm not quite sure why Microsoft made this decision but from a security point of view it would have made perfect sense to have it enabled by default. I suspect it's due to Microsoft not wanting to frustrate customers when their internet dependent applications suddenly stopped working.Windows Vista Firewall: How To Turn On Outbound Filtering
* Click the Start Button (Windows Orb)
* In the search bar type "wf.msc" and press the Enter key
* Click the Windows Firewall Properties link
* Change Outbound connections from Allow (default) to Block
From the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security properties you can also configure additional rules for incoming as well as outbound connections.

I suppose there are third-party file managers. I will be looking for one if and when forced to upgrade from XP. Having tried the Windows 7 beta, Windows Explorer (like MSN Messenger) is beginning to look like an ornament. Apparently the same goes for Vista.
When Folder View is enabled, clicking on the folder name does nothing. In Windows XP, you could click on the folder name to expand the folder and automatically close the previous folder at the same time. That was very useful to me. And then there is all the additional junk above the "computer" folder, as if Microsoft thinks "computer" is a bad word to be hidden away. And then there is the fact that font sizes and types
can no longer be adjusted (without screwing up other programs on your system).

Just ahead of the launch of Windows 7 comes Microsoft Security Essentials, their new free anti-virus package based on their award-winning ForeFront corporate security scanning engine. I wrote last night that this software is being released today and there was an interesting comment from Yatti420 who wrote. MS should just push MSE to all users.. I notice lots of clients comps coming in now with stuff AVG misses.. MSE is a Microsoft Product that just works well.. Link - Should Microsoft push MSE through Windows Update? | Windows 7 News

"I worked as an analyst when Microsoft developed Windows Vista. Execs asked for my advice, and they got it. Did they listen?" But of course the vistaboys and frank king of the apes, will just discredit him too... it seems like they think that their own experience is better than US pros.. yes me included... with over 25 years of computer experience, I know when an OS is POS.
let the mud flow freely for vista! let the truth shine, and THEN lets decide if we should use it or not... not get it shoved down our throughts in the dark (not mine but the average user) here is the text of the article
The imminent real release of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is reason enough to broach the question. SP1 is an important milestone for an operating system that bloggers and other critics consistently ridicule. Oh, yeah, the channel and enterprises aren't exactly loving Vista either. These 10 things are in no particular order of importance.
1. Windows Vista has to be a whole lot better than Windows XP. Microsoft had left XP in the market for a long time. That version of Windows had reached a..........

I'm trying to do the in-place upgrade - Vista Home Premium to W7 Home Premium. It says: "The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, complete each task, and then restart the upgrade to continue. There is not enough free space to store temporary Windows installation files. Try using Disk Cleanup, uninstall old programs, or move files to an external location such as a CD, DVD, or external hard drive." I just installed a new 320 gb hard drive and restored Vista on it. It works perfectly. 220 drive C: and about 80 gb D: so there should be no problem I checked each drive's properties to make sure each had much unused space - I came from an 80 gb disk.

I guess this will burn the behinds of many fanboys (frank included) but I told you that this would happen. At first no one believed me. but slowly people started to wake up, now its common knowledge, and only a few dorks cling the the worse OS microsft ever made. You all didnt want to listen then, perhaps you will listen now.
The question now isn't "Is Vista Dead?" It is. The real question is: Can Microsoft get Windows 7 out in time to save its desktop domination? I think Microsoft "could" pull it off. Here's how. Vista is dead............

I recently had to select a previous System Restore point to correct photo printing problems. It was successful. However, it appears that Windows Live Photo Gallery is removed because the Restore Point was before "Live Gallery" was installed. What confuses me is that the "Upgrade Installation" still shows in the Upgrade list. Finally my question: Can I simply reinstall Windows Live Photo Gallery from the Microsoft site?

Microsoft Update was first released a few years ago for Windows XP and Server 2003 as a great way to update all of your Microsoft software installed on your PC. Not only would it update Windows, but it would also update Microsoft Office. Are you a Microsoft Outlook user? If so, Microsoft Update would even download updated junk mail signatures when they are released.
In Windows Vista the new Windows Update application is no longer web-based. Microsoft has built-in the old Microsoft Update functionality into the new interface but you need to turn it on before you can use it. Follow these steps to turn on updates for other Microsoft applications: ...

I am running Office Home and Student 2007 and have just run a diagnostic which suggests that my installation is not up to date and that I go to the Microsoft Update site and download any available updates. When I do, I am asked to sign on with 'Microsoft Update'. The idea is, I think, to combine this Microsoft Update with my Windows Update and let Office updates come though along with updates for Vista, IE, etc. I have posted here before with issues concerning updates including a fiasco I had last November which involved Office updates and am wondering, since Office seems to be working well at the moment (I was bored so I did a diagnostic ) should I bother with this or just leave it? Does Office have security issues like IE and Vista?
