Beta Version Of Windows Vista No Longer Supported By Microsoft Corporation.
Mar 29, 2008
I get this message in the Problem Reports and Solutions window: The problem was caused by Windows Vista, which was created by Microsoft Corporation. You are running a beta version of Windows Vista, which is no longer supported by Microsoft Corporation. I've clicked on the website to upgrade which is what it tells me to do but it just takes me to a page to buy an upgrade - is this right?

Everytime when I boot up my laptop, the Firewall and Malware Protection under my Windows Security Center section are constantly turned off. I can turn them on manually, but they will occasionally switch back off again. I'm assuming it's some spyware or something, but all my scans have come out clean. Aside from that, another issue in the Malware Protection area is under the Virus Protection section. It shows me the following message: "Windows Live OneCare is on but is reporting its status to Windows Security Center in a format that is no longer supported. Use the
program's automatic updating feature for an updated version."

first enable the"Run" button in the start menu in the "Taskbar Properties" here's a work around to Activate Vista Build 5219,5231,5270,5308,(or earlier)and later maybe.. Start > Run > msconfig > Permit Folder "Services" uncheck the "Software Licensing Service" uncheck the "SL UI Notification Service" Apply Close Restart Your machine will then tell you, this machine is unlicensed.

Run Winver At Command Prompt And If You See The Following Next 2 The Build 6001 Number: V., Whereas V. = A 3 Digit Beta Build Number, Then You Are Running A Beta Version Of Windows Vista Service Pack One, Just FYI. If There Is No V. Next 2 The Build 6001, Then You Are Running Windows Vista SP1 RTM (RTM = Which Stands 4 Release To Manufacturing = Gold Or Final Release).

A few sites are reporting that MS has released another beta of SP2 to the public. Unfortunately, all the links provided by those sites point to older versions. Does anyone have a link to the x86 version of the latest SP2 Beta? It would have to be higher than v.285.

My computer is coming close to need reinstalling. At the moment I am running windows vista 32 bit. I have a retail boxed version of vista, which includes the 64 bit version of vista. I have a HP computer, which has a quad core processor and has 4 gigs of ram. I wondered what the pros and cons are when having the 64 bit version of windows vista?

I've tried everything to get my games to run smoothly on Vista, and nothing seems to work very well. Its not so much as my computer sucks, cause when I downgraded to XP, just to try it out, my games were running perfectly smooth. And don't say, "Just stick with XP then!" cause I love Vista in its many other ways.
The only reason I can come up with as to why my games run much slower on Vista is because Vista is a DirectX10 supported OS, but has a DirectX9 "emulator". And since all my games, and video card are DX9 compatible, it runs in the emulated mode. Now we all know running emulators makes our computers run a bit slower, so thats the only solution I can come up with.
Well I know alot of others have had this problem, and Microsoft knows its a problem, so they have said, and I've been told that Vista SP1 would fix that. Well I downloaded SP1 RC Refresh, yet nothing seems to have changed at all...
So heres my questions - Do you guys feel that because its a DX10 supported OS, and im running DX9 software/hardware, that thats a reason why my games run slower? Also what do you guys think on Vista SP1 RC Refresh?

I purchased a new PC in early 2007 that came with XP. A month or so later I received the Vista upgrade CD which I have never installed. I intend to buy Windows 7 when it becomes available and wish to minimize my system upgrade problems as much as possible. Based on my understanding I would have to do a complete harddrive erase to install Win 7 and then reinstall all my applications. If possible and practical I'd like to upgrade XP to Vista and then Vista to Windows 7. My question am I likely to have problems going from a current up to date version of XP to a 2+ year old version of Vista which would require many updates to bring up to the current level?.

I know after running the Vista advisor that the old Sonic Software DLA was not supported by Vista, so uninstalled all "Known" versions of it before upgrading from XP SPF3 to Vista Ultimate SPF1, but somehow and Sonic/Roxio support has been of no help, I still have a component of DLA that is being Blocked every Logon. This is an anoyance and a nuisance , not like the BSOD issues, but have tried 2 different MS Fixit routines so far and each one has cripled my system, requiring a Reboot / Repair, so No more Auto Fixes. If anybody has an answer "Other than Delete the DRVMCDB.Sys file", and reboot. I have googled it and other forums have tried to sell "Driver Doctor", etc. but nothing I see as usefull. All other systems are fine and the drive works

I've looked around at the various settings for the forums and I can't seem to find an answer. I am using FireFox 3 Beta 2 on Vista Ultimate x64. When reading various posts or navigating around various areas of Vistx64.com, there is a preview of posts by the mouse cursor. Usually when in a forum, the preview is of the previous or next post. This is really annoying as the preview covers up the text of the post I am reading. Is there any way to shut off the preview in the UserCP that I haven't found yet?

I've heard conflicting reports as to whether Office 2000 will run successfully under Vista. In the hope that they are compatible, I installed Office 2000 and then installed (from the Microsoft site) updates SR-1a and SP-2. Then I downloaded SP3, but when I attempted to install it, I got the message "The expected version of the product was not found on your system." Is there some reason for this, or should I just try again? I looked for, but could not find, a newsgroup that deals with Office 2000 -- is there an alternative newsgroup that would be better for these questions?

My friend with an HP laptop using Vista (version unknown) burned a file named Anniversary Video Final.mswmm onto a DVD_R for me. The file size is 2.89mb (that's mb-not gb). As I expected, my 3 year old Dell running WinXP SP3 won't play the file. The WMM on this machine (v 2.1.4026.4) says the file is not supported. Okay-that's fine...but the XP box could "see" the file. Then I took the disc over to my 1 year old Dell running Vista SP2 (WMM v 6.0.6002.18005). This machine cannot even see the file. I tried typing in the file name and it still won't find it. Yes the drive in the Vista box is a DVD drive-it reads other CDs-DVDs just fine (so far). This same machine while booted in Ubuntu could not read the disc (gave error message "invalid mount option").
Is there any good reason why the XP box could mount the disc and the Vista machine could not? Is it worthwhile to try and burn a copy of the disc on the XP box, or should I ask my friend to burn another disc for me?

Download Vista SP2 Beta via Windows UpdateWritten by Ryan October 30th, 2008
If you like to stay on the bleeding edge of technology (and you’re running Vista) you may want to consider modifying two registry keys on your system so that you can participate in the Vista SP2 Beta program. To join the program all you have to do is download this batch file, and run it on your Vista machine as an administrator (right click - Run as administrator). Then just check for available Windows Updates (it may take 30 minutes or so for it to show up in the Windows Updates).
Think carefully whether you want to do this or not. There will likely be some bugs that could cause problems with your system, but at the very least it will cause Vista to expire on 4/2/2010 (or around then). Plus it will place the “Evaluation copy” message on your desktop wallpaper. You can always uninstall Vista SP2 to remove the evaluation message and expiration date, but it’s important to know what you’re getting into before you try to install it.
So what’s new in Vista SP2? Here’s a brief rundown that the Vista blog provided last week:Windows Vista SP2 adds Windows Search 4.0 for faster and improved relevancy in searches. Windows Vista SP2 contains the Bluetooth 2.1 Feature Pack supporting the most recent specification for Bluetooth Technology. Ability to record data on to Blu-Ray media natively in Windows Vista. Adds Windows Connect Now (WCN) to simplify Wi-Fi Configuration. Windows Vista SP2 enables the exFAT file system to support UTC timestamps, which allows correct file synchronization across time zones. Windows Vista SP2 is expected to be released in final form sometime in the first half of 2009. Judging by the expiration date of Vista SP2 Beta I’d say that sounds about right.

Got my motion eye working under Win7 64x. Link below for the drivers. I have the Vaio SZ650n/c, and all but a few keyboard hotkeys are working. The volume hotkeys work by default with win7. (maybe in hardware) Brightness is available by right-clicking the battery indicator (by clock) or by running "windows mobility center". For my SZ650, I had to install the SFEP and SPIC drivers to clear device manager. I could not find hot key drivers in 64x.
