My Microsoft Fingerprint reader has recently stopped working. I have tried reinstalling drivers and software. The reader is illuminated, and shows as connected and working properly in device manager, but when I touch it nothing happens.

Does anyone know when software will be available for Vista 64?If not does anyone know of a good fingerprint reader that is compatable with Vista 64?

When I start the "Fingerprint registration wizard', I get the following message: "Error Invalid class string. Suspect installation problem." I have un-installed, re-installed at least 10times. no luck. I got the newest software from MicroSoft, DPPM_201_ENG.exe. (it says: VISTA Compatible).Mouse works just fine. I googled for an answer, I found the same problem that others also have, but nobody had an answer. I installed also under Windows XP, there it works perfectly with the same installation software. Checked at the MS-knowledge base, fix recommendations are more than 2 years old, tried it anyway, still no luck. Changed USB ports, ran it as Windows XP compatible, tried really everything, I am really at a loss. Hopefully someone out there has/had the same problem and got it working? After 2 days of trying I'm really getting..., well you know what I mean!
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with two things: Installing the fingerprint reader(have re-installed vista, have worked before) don't work. The innstall just disappeares and nothing happens after that. And the dvd station opens all the time, without anyone touching the computer. It happened after I reinstalled vista, have reinstalled before, but didn't happen then. It still reads cd/dvd's, but opens itself all the time.

I have explorer 7. Again never used to have problems. I have tried using other explorer versions, e.g. firefox, opera etc. I did try to upgrade to explorer version 8, but for some reason this download would also not start. I have checked all settings, ran explorer with add ons and no add ons. I have no viruses etc. I run clean up and registry mechanic regularly. I restart and defrag. Even tried system restore! I just do not know what to do next........
Cruzer jump drive does not work with Vista but does work on my other comptuer with XP. It did work until recently but now the system wants to format the drive instead of allowing me to drag and drop files. The multimedia drive also quit working.

The recycle bin icon on my desktop has stopped working. Instead of the glass filling up whenever I delete something and then emptying when I empty the recycle bin, the glass remains resolutely empty. If I open the recycle bin folder the deleted files are there. How do I restore functionality
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Home Premium. When I use "Save As" in any application (for example, Wordpad), the "New Folder" button no longer works. Same fault when I download from the internet.
I need to first create the folder using Windows Explorer. When I try to remember what I might have done recently to cause that fault, it's possible that I made some mistake when using Brink's excellent tutorial to speed up Vista: Speed Up the Performance of Vista. BTW: Any mistake would be mine, because I've used that tutorial previously with impressive results
I just highlighted one and then held down the shift key until I reached the last
one to delete. That no longer works nor does any other combo. Deleting one at a time is real pain. Also, I'm trying to add the same windows newsgroups I have on an XP desktop to a Vista laptop and searching microsoft.public etc. is not bringing up anything.
An earlier thread mentioned the Conficker worm, how it is affecting Vista, and that the threat has changed. I have two symptoms of the worm - Windows Update no longer works (when I load it goes to a blank windows explorer screen, which I have force quit through Task Manager), and Windows Defender no longer works. I have used multiple Conficker removal tools (BD, F Smart, MS Removal) and none of these have found anything wrong. Any ideas if this is Conficker adapting or if its something else?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've recently got this problem where my taskbar will no longer stay hidden. Once I boot up it will auto-hide for a short time then it just stops working as if my mouse is always hoovering over the taskbar. I can then disable and then re-enable the feature and it will then hide until I put my mouse over it and then it will no longer hide. The only new thing that was done before this happened was installing Vipre Antivirus software. I've tried disabling that to see if that was the problem but it still remains. Does nayone have any ideas what would cause this and more importantly how to fix it?

The application presented a window for handwriting. maybe Vista thought my Desktop computer was a handheld device? well i disabled that application and ever since it was installed, my touchpad (which is integrated with my keyboard and has its own PS2 plug) does not work. This security update (see below) kept reappearing on my task bar wanting to be installed and I kept installing it. I finally checked and I have it on the list of installed updates a dozen times--but it still keeps appearing on my task bar asking to be installed. It's like a spell gone wrong. I want to get rid of it from my welcome screen so I looked and went into the Fingerprint Reader Suit, clicked on Settings, then System Settings, got a pop up window, clicked on the Logon tab to try and switch from Fingerprint Logon to Standard Windows Log on but that screen is greyed out and it doesn't allow me to switch off the Fingerprint Logon!!!! How do I change it and delete the icon from my welcome screen!!?

I have a Gateway ML6703 Notebook running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit.I had to reload windows because of a windows update that put my computer in a forever restart loop. Anyway, after the reload I noticed I'm missing the drive I need to look at my photos how to find out who the model/vendor is? I looked in the device manager and
uninstalled the Mass Storage Controller, which doen't say what it is or even if it is the reader, then reboot. The computer does a search but doesn'tfind anything, then asks to insert the disk that came with the drive which I never had. I also tried the operating disc but my machine doesn't find it there either.
Adobe reader will not open pdf files in Internet Explorer.
Also when I now go to the Adobe website the computer seizes.
