View 4 RepliesI have been using Windows Mail with my ATT/SBC Global account for well over a year. I get this message when I try to send/receive (and ATT
cannot help me):
An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'pop.att.yahoo.com', Server:

I have an advent laptop with vista ultimate operating system. (1 year old). I no longer know what to do about facebook..... Ok i never used to have any problems whatsoever. I have Kaspersky security, however facebook used to work perfectly well. So it cant be that??
I have explorer 7. Again never used to have problems. I have tried using other explorer versions, e.g. firefox, opera etc. I did try to upgrade to explorer version 8, but for some reason this download would also not start. I have checked all settings, ran explorer with add ons and no add ons. I have no viruses etc. I run clean up and registry mechanic regularly. I restart and defrag. Even tried system restore! I just do not know what to do next........
Cruzer jump drive does not work with Vista but does work on my other comptuer with XP. It did work until recently but now the system wants to format the drive instead of allowing me to drag and drop files. The multimedia drive also quit working.
Using Vista Premium on a Toshiba A205 -S4607. Have been unable to find an email for tech support from Toshiba. Will not buy another computer from them!
Can anyone provide a fix. Have tried using and earlier restore point along with deleting the UBS drivers under System - devices but to no avail. Mouse, printer, keyboard, and Matrox external disk drive are all recognized.
The recycle bin icon on my desktop has stopped working. Instead of the glass filling up whenever I delete something and then emptying when I empty the recycle bin, the glass remains resolutely empty. If I open the recycle bin folder the deleted files are there. How do I restore functionality
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Home Premium. When I use "Save As" in any application (for example, Wordpad), the "New Folder" button no longer works. Same fault when I download from the internet.
I need to first create the folder using Windows Explorer. When I try to remember what I might have done recently to cause that fault, it's possible that I made some mistake when using Brink's excellent tutorial to speed up Vista: Speed Up the Performance of Vista. BTW: Any mistake would be mine, because I've used that tutorial previously with impressive results
I just highlighted one and then held down the shift key until I reached the last
one to delete. That no longer works nor does any other combo. Deleting one at a time is real pain. Also, I'm trying to add the same windows newsgroups I have on an XP desktop to a Vista laptop and searching microsoft.public etc. is not bringing up anything.
An earlier thread mentioned the Conficker worm, how it is affecting Vista, and that the threat has changed. I have two symptoms of the worm - Windows Update no longer works (when I load it goes to a blank windows explorer screen, which I have force quit through Task Manager), and Windows Defender no longer works. I have used multiple Conficker removal tools (BD, F Smart, MS Removal) and none of these have found anything wrong. Any ideas if this is Conficker adapting or if its something else?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been using an external drive for backup - but as of today, I cannot 'see' it in 'Computer.' It is turning, but not showing up on my monitor. Is there any way I can check to see what the problem is? The cables seem fine.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've recently got this problem where my taskbar will no longer stay hidden. Once I boot up it will auto-hide for a short time then it just stops working as if my mouse is always hoovering over the taskbar. I can then disable and then re-enable the feature and it will then hide until I put my mouse over it and then it will no longer hide. The only new thing that was done before this happened was installing Vipre Antivirus software. I've tried disabling that to see if that was the problem but it still remains. Does nayone have any ideas what would cause this and more importantly how to fix it?
View 5 Replies View Relateda while ago a program was installed with window update. The application presented a window for handwriting. maybe Vista thought my Desktop computer was a handheld device? well i disabled that application and ever since it was installed, my touchpad (which is integrated with my keyboard and has its own PS2 plug) does not work. It does show up in a list of devices though saying 'functionin properly'

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Vista 32bit sp2, IE8 and WindowsMail. I had this problem on my XP/Outlook Express machine and found an answer, but can't find one for WindowsMail. Please note that I have had this set-up for several months and never incurred this problem. Even earlier today everything was working fine.
It looks as if I can send messages, but when I click on send/receive button to receive messages I get a screen asking for my username and password. I have it set to remember in 'tools' 'accounts', but it isn't remembering it.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix it. I have POP3 and use Embarqmail which is now called CenturyLink.
A friend has word processor files with the extension .wps created in Works 4 in Win95. He has bought a new computer with Vista loaded. He says he's unable to get Vista (I think he said Works 9) to read these old files. How can he convert them

View 4 Replies View RelatedRight now I'm using Vista Ultimate 32-bit. I've 3gb of ram and I have all drivers for 64-bit. Is it reasonable to go for 64-bit? And, will all 32-bit software work in 64-bit OS?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Diskeeper 2008 which does NOT work on large drives (over 1TB). The new Diskeeper does, but I don't want to pay their ridiculous prices again, now with add-ons. (yes, I have a lot of files on my Vista box) So, I need:
1. Vista compat.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhy does a VPN connection setup with an XP computer so easy and it fails when I try to set up the connection with a VISTA Ultimate computer. Since Microsoft knows the default settings within XP to create the VPN connections why not have MS make available the necessary changes to the default settings in VISTA in order to make this connection work from VISTA. Have had to add an XP box at the office for on connection. And more money for MS software.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have just started to learn C and need some software to write my source. I have tried Turbo C++, Borland C++, just to name a few and they will not work with Vista 64 bit. I get errors that says to check with the software manufacture. Does anyone know of a C IDE with GUI that works with vista 64?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMost posts want advice on how to resolve an issue with existing hardware or software. I'm asking for advice on what to buy to avoid any issues. I need a SATA DVD burner for my new x64 build. So far I just have the case, power supply, and processor. In my wish list is the RAM, MB, HD, and OS. Each has been verified to at least "work" with x64 Vista according to the MS compatibility list. Now I'm looking for a DVD burner that some of you existing x64 users have installed and like.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe problem symptom is that:
1) CD ROM is completely ignored and OS boots
from a HDD.
2) booting process begins but it stalls. There is one kind of bootable CD which still boots which is DOS CD. I replaced the optical drive with a new one, but the problem symptom is the same.
I have a HP Pavilion Entertainment PC(32-bit OS). About two weeks ago, I was online when my power went out and my laptop shut down(no battery). It powered back up afterward with no problem but a few hours later when I tried, it would not go online. It cannot find any networks in my area. The message I get is "This computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured." It suggests I install wireless networking hardware and verify the correct drivers are loaded. When I click that(Troubleshoot Driver Problems), it tells me to update the driver through Windows Updates. However when I do that, I'm told that I'm already running the most up to date driver.
The problem is not with my router/ISP. My husband's laptops are online with no issues. I'm not the most technologically savvy person so this is beyond my expertise.
I had this problem just over a year ago, and I took my laptop back to the shop -- they told me to take Vista back to the factory defaults. But when I did, there was a failure in the installation process and they told me that they would have to replace the computer -- apparently it was the motherboard -- on warranty. I hope it is not so major this time. Here goes. The USB ports have become very intermittent, spontaneously reading the plugged in storage device as having been unplugged, then spontaneously reading it as having been plugged in, with the sound that alerts you to that operation (this is exactly what happened last time, except over a prolonged period). Now my USB external hard drive isn't being read. It shows in the device manager, and the sound that alerts to when it is being plugged in or disconnected pings as it should, but in computer > manage > storage it is 'unknown' and 'unreadable'. My memory sticks can be read, though. And the USB mouse works in all the ports.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThis notebook used to stream with wmp fine just like the other pc's in the house, which by the way still do. The defaults are right and there may have been an ms update that ended it all. When I click on the program a download box appears and if downloaded it will play ok but not stream.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am ready to buy a new computer, probably HP, but it is my understanding that regardless of manuf., computers no longer come with CDs for the Oper Sys (like Vista, or XP). In the event of a hard drive crash, how would a recovery take place? What are the options? Using of Win XP Pro, FrontPage 2002, Outlook XP, Word-PowerPoint-Publisher 2002, Word 2002 AMD Athlon 1.2, 512mb mem, 80GB disk, DVD and CD burners.
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust upgraded from a 7300se to a 8600gts, and now I can't play DVDs. I've changed from a vga to a dvi connection, so I don't know if HDCP has kicked in? Whenever I try to play a DVD I get an error message "There is a problem with copy protection between your graphics card and computer" or something like that. VLC plays DVDs, but nothing that uses the Vista decoder (or any other decoder pack I try to install).
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have had this problem for a long time, but i'm beginning to get really sick and tired of it.
First and foremost, let me quickly explain the issue:
- Autorun NEVER works
- When i insert a disc or USB device, nothing happens
- When i go to My Computer and double click on the drive, Vista asks me if i want to format the CD/DVD
- Vista thinks that every CD/DVD i insert is blank... This includes mounting an ISO via Daemon tools........
Since clearing some stuff off my computer I've suddenly found I can't open any attachments. They try to open in Works, which won't allow it.
