Winhlp.exe Has Caused An Illegal Instruction In Ntvdm Cpu

Aug 29, 2005

I have been getting repeated messages along the lines of: WINHLP1.EXE HAS CAUSED AN ILLEGAL INSTRUCTION IN NTVDM CPU. I have also found a file called winhlp.dllalias which has references to a website called Americanfurniturewarehouse.com which repeatedly causes a pop-up on my internet explorer. Deleting this file has no long term effect.

Xp Acting Weird To Another Level - NTVDM CPU Has Encountered An Illegal Operation

Aug 18, 2005

PC MightyMax after I was having problems with my cmd not starting up. My cmd would say some 16 bit message The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal operation or for that matter try and run anything dos related and I really don't know how that started. I downloaded PC MightyMax to try and fix some of those problems. After installing I ran the test it said and it said I had a good bit of problems wrong and it said I had to pay to fix them so I just said forget it. I restarted my computer and when it got back to the windows part a message comes up in a bunch of symbols I deffinately cannot read. To be blunt just about everything is in those symbol things. It has a button to click even though I can't read it. I click it and it does nothing. I can't get to my desktop or anything. I tried starting in safemode and got to my desktop after hitting the button on the message and all my desktop items and everything else is in those weird symbol things

Trying To Reinstall Itself Without Any Instruction?

Apr 5, 2008

For the past few days the windows XP set-up disc has been in the CD drive and not done anything (I was trying to repair something and left it in because I forgot about it).I switched the PC on when I came home from work and for some unknown reason windows is attempting to reinstall itself. I don't know if this is my own fault for leaving the disc in? Why would this happen out of the blue when the disc has been in for a while and not done this?

Anyway, I'm being taken to a setup screen and being told to insert the CD or setup can't continue. There's no way of backing out of it. Re-starting isn't helping. I've tried rebooting with last good configurations, in safe mode (which didn't work) and it's still telling me to insert the disc.I'm assuming that following through with the install will delete everything I have and all my own configurations. Is there any way of getting out of it?

Wipe Software - Instruction On Installing New OS

Feb 4, 2007

Anyone who remembers my posts knows that I have been having all kinds of problems with my Win XP Home for at least three months now. Most of it has been my fault, as I don't do my research and get advice from experts like this forum before I barge ahead and pretend like I know more than I do. I'm on a Sony VAIO, almost 5 years old. It has 80 GBs and 700+ RAM and another 512 chip waiting to be installed (I want to fix these other issues first). I don't have any kind of original XP CD, which has caused many problems, because my computer came loaded with the OS. I just have restore disks which take me back to 2002. I have decided to wipe my hard drive and install my Dad's XP Pro, which is also 2002. At least I'd have the installation disk. He has permission to use it on multiple computers. I plan to get all of the updates for it from Microsoft once it is installed - is that a problem? I will not upgrade IE6 to IE7.

Instruction At 0x01dde065 Referenced Memory At '0x00000000?

Feb 18, 2005

whenever I try to use some part of Windows Explorer (e.g. opening Control Panel, Network Connections, folders on my desktop) I get an error message that says: "The instruction at 0x01dde065 referenced memory at '0x00000000'. The memory could not be 'written'. Click on OK to terminate the program" When I click OK, Explorer terminates and restarts, but still has the same problem. I tried restarting as well as running a System Restore and neither fixed the problem. All of my other programs appear to be working fine, and there is no noticeable performance drop.

Application Error Start Up - Instruction At 0x009a6f9a Memory Couldn't Written

Oct 22, 2004

I get an application error on start up before ever making a move to open any programs. The instruction at "0x009a6f9a" referenced memory at "0x00000000" could not be written. The moment I noticed this issue was after an install of my Printer/Fax/scanner by HP, It is a wireless printer so the firewall asked if it should unblock for the install process. My question is should I try to go back to a restore point before that install or is there a workaround for this error.

So naturaly, I'm really iritated right about now.The first one was caused by tdi.sys and after lots of googling, I downloaded the debugging tool and opened my first ever minidump. Again after a lot of googling, on one forum it was advised that I change the tdi.sys located in::WINDOWSsystem32driverswith the one from:C:WINDOWSServicePackFilesi386
I did and that BSOD didn't happen again. I was soooo happy.

Illegal Copy Of Professional

Jul 10, 2005

Last year I purchased a copy of XP Professional on eBay. Prior to that, I purchased Windows 2000 Professional from Best Buy - it was a legal copy and I still have it.I wanted to upgrade/change to XP so I was hoping to get a less expensive purchase via eBay. Everything was fine with it until this week when I tried to download an upgrade to Windows Media Player 10. My licenses were out of wack and when I called Microsoft for support, they told me it was an OEM version and they didn't support those versions. I had no idea I purchased an OEM version. I want a legal copy of XP and don't want to have to reformat my harddrive. Since XP Professional is already on my computer, if I "re-buy" the op-sys, can I load it over this OEM version? Or do I have to reformat?

I do have a SATA drive and I've heard this causes issues but I haven't heard of one exactly like mine before (I never get to the actual installation just the pre-loading).

System Crash Caused By VSS2k

May 6, 2008

My computer running windows XP has been periodically crashing (~ 1 per month). The event viewer indicates a system error category (102) with event ID 1003. The Error code is as follows: 100000d1, parameter1 00000000, parameter2 0000001c, parameter3 00000001, parameter4 ba0a9182. I have tried to analyze the minidump files using the windows debugger tool. It indicates that the error is probably caused by vss2k.sys ( vss2k+6182) and attributes it to a driver_fault. I really have not been able to decipher much more than that.

Updates Caused Reboot Loop

Jul 6, 2010

So I downloaded some Windows (XP SP2) updates as usual on my Dell Dimension C521 Desktop, and after being nagged every 10 minutes to restart the computer, I finally gave in. You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair. I tried the Recovery Console as suggested, but it wouldn't let me past the Admin Password prompt. (And besides, Microsoft says not to do that on an OEM-installed operating system. )Soon, the error message disappeared and turned into a reboot loop, going endlessly back and forth between the Dell screen and the Windows screen. I tried a Repair Installation and it looked like it was working but it just added a new screen to the loop that says: "Setup is being restarted."
