I wanted to know if someone had a illegal version of windows and they had ie 6 and wanted it 7 and couldn't because they needed a legal version of windows is there a way of getting ie 7 if that person had illegal version of windows?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recent had to install a new disk drive on my computer (Dell) and had problems installing Windows XP from their support CD so I used an illegal copy instead. Now I've been identified as having a non-genuine operating system and need desperately to get my legal copy installed. Do I use the Dell provided system CD and act as tho' I was repairing Windows? Will that get the correct key in place without losing all the other things installed on my drive?

I also have no sound and in the control panel it isn't picking up any audio devices. I cant change the theme back to windows xp in properties either it says im using Windows XP (modified). I have to wipe the hard drive before I can install the OEM XP home, since this version was meant to be distributed with new PCs only. But after I've wiped it, and have installed XP home, I plan to partition the drive and install another OS, is that ok?

I asked for help in an earlier thread, and got some helpful advice, but now I have a new problem. (I'm not sure I should be starting a new thread on this; but it does seem like a separate issue to me.) About two years ago I had the Geek Squad in to rid my computer of a deeply embedded virus. The techie said something to the effect that he was going to load a newer version of XP, which I welcomed, and thought no more about it. Now, in trying to reinstall or install or whatever it is that I'm going to do, the XP disk comes up with an error message saying that I cannot install an earlier version of XP. I don't have a copy of the newer version the techie installed. My question is: is there a way to override the can't-install-older-version block and reinstall the original XP version I have on a legally-owned disk?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently partitioned my hard drive using Symantec Partition Magic. I installed Vista Ultimate on a separate partition. After installing, I would reboot and the normal dual boot menu would come up every time i booted my computer. But after realizing that I didn't like vista, I deleted the partition. I did not uninstall Vista, I just deleted the partition. Than I applied the newly unallocated space to the rest of my harddrive. But now when I boot, I still get the dual boot option. It tells me to pick Vista or an "Earlier Version of Windows".

View 2 Replies View RelatedI wrk for a company that has a server with Windows 2003. There are multiple 2000 and XP users who map drives from the server. Now here is where the problem begins. 2000 has no problms at all mapping drives. XP however has an issue with one folder. No matter what letter you pick, when you map the drive you get an error message "Setup requires a different version of windows. Check to make sure you are running setup on the Windows platform for which it is intended. Error 102" First of all im not running any type of setup. Im merely mapping a drive. This error occurs regardless of what drive letter you pick. And the really weird part, is once mapped the drive will open in Explorer or any other mode EXCEPT through My Computer and double clicking on the drive. If you right click the drive and hit open or explore, both will open the drive just fine. You double click and you get the error. When you right click the drive you also get an "autoplay" feature which makes no sense being its a folder on the server.
It acts like it has lost its association. Like if a JPG file is associated with nothing it wont open, but if you tell it to open with paint then it will. Its really weird and after weeks of searching i have found not a single similar problem to this one i can relate or get help from. It just plain makes no sense. I am going to unshare and reshare the folder when everyone leaves and see if that helps, but it works fine in 2000 currently and not in XP just in my computer.
I'm struggeling to get an new "my own" version of XP installed to my old working laptop. My old working had anther XP installed, but I tried to remove it before installing my own. The problem is; while installing it comes with an error saying that the my version doesn't fit to the original version...how do I clean the laptop fully? I'm using a tool called fdisk, aefdisk, but probably not correct

2.Navigate to the registry key: "HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop".
3.Once there, locate the DWORD value "PaintDesktopVersion".
4.Right click on it and select Modify.-Value equal to "0" removes Windows version from desktop.-Value equal to "1" adds Windows version to desktop.
5.Reboot your computer.
Probably a stupid question but it's bugging me. I just bought a new computer with xp mce 2005 installed. I noticed though that when I right click on my computer it says it's version 2002 service pack 2. Is that normal?

Prior to that, I purchased Windows 2000 Professional from Best Buy - it was a legal copy and I still have it.I wanted to upgrade/change to XP so I was hoping to get a less expensive purchase via eBay. Everything was fine with it until this week when I tried to download an upgrade to Windows Media Player 10. My licenses were out of wack and when I called Microsoft for support, they told me it was an OEM version and they didn't support those versions. I had no idea I purchased an OEM version. I want a legal copy of XP and don't want to have to reformat my harddrive. Since XP Professional is already on my computer, if I "re-buy" the op-sys, can I load it over this OEM version? Or do I have to reformat?

I have a computer that was given to me to use as a backup. It has two small HDs: C is about 6 Gb and D is about 9 Gb. Win XP Pro is on drive C. It is set up as NTFS. The processor is about 1.5. I do not have the CD and, thus, do not want an illegal copy of XP on this computer. I have legal copies of 95, 98SE and an ME upgrade. I would like to reformat the HD to Fat32 and put on one of these older OS. However, when I try to FDISK it will not allow me to reformat the disk, apparently because it is NTFS. It has only the one partition.

Windows & my Nero 8 both eventually refuse to record to the discs because they are recognizing them as "illegal discs". This error message must result from the size of the disc as I have no problems with 650 MB discs. I was able to record to one of the discs with another computer.This second computer is 64 bit XP VS my 32 bit. The burners are identical, and the Nero 7 used is nearly identical.I then erased the disc (with Nero 7) and tried it in the problem computer same issue.

I have also found a file called winhlp.dllalias which has references to a website called Americanfurniturewarehouse.com which repeatedly causes a pop-up on my internet explorer. Deleting this file has no long term effect.
