Juts wiped drives and re-installed XPPro.
There were ups and downs (no RAID drivers, etc...), but...
All is Good Now and Up to Date.
Of course there is always something -

"Select All".
I`m currently running windows xp home (media centre edition)and when i`m on msn messenger and someone sends me a link. iv not been able to open it. iv disabled pop up stopper. iv turned off net guard and zone alarm. and iv checked the settings on internet explorer and msn and nothing has changed.

No response from the keyboard.Ctrl – Alt-Del doesn't work.I think it gets hung up in the boot ( possibly loading drivers?)I have rebooted several times with the same results. Starting in Safe mode everything works OK. When starting in safe mode it lists various drivers as it progresses; I don't know how many there should be – or if this is any help because safe mode works OK.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a system that has Windows XP Home on it and when I try to install a spyware removal or anti-virus program that I have downloaded from the internet to the desktop or program files folder, it will not open up when I double-click on it or if I right-click and select OPEN. However, if I right-click the program icon and click on RUN AS, it brings up a gray window asking for a user name and password to gain access to the program. It says something about security that prevents unauthorized installation of viruses and the like.

I booted up my computer the other morning and printed to the program but now instead of the dialog box i visagesoft usually display it only shows as a minimised window in the tasbar. I am unable to click on it to restore the dialog box.
I have tried uninstalling the program checking no stray registry entries remain and reinstalling the progam but still have the same issue. This seems to be the only program thats effected. No system changes / upgrades have been made on this system. I have a number of similar builds all running the same software and none of these have had anyproblems
somehow the default setting when i double click a file folder changed from "open" to "search". in my efforts to solve the problem i created a shortcut that does not work and i can't get rid of it because the "remove" option is greyed out in the "edit file type" window.

When I want to drag an item I must try many times, when I want to select text, I cannot do it that easily.Sometimes I open the mouse and clean it with a special liquid, it works fine for two days but then the problem is back again. I've also changed the button internally many times from older mouses, what I mean, I desold the bad button and sold a new one with tin.

I tried to do a 'system restore' but the system restore does not work. It will not allow me to click on a previous date; when I tried "help" in 'SR', that did not work either.I've rebooted several times to no avail. Earlier in the day I had downloaded a new program called 'seekmore'...thinking that may be the problem, I uninstalled it, but the audio is still gone. I ran a Norton Scan... still no success.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I open a folder (MyComputer, for example), and try to right-click or double-click an icon to open it- it does not work. When I right-click the icon, NOTHING happens. When I double-click the icon, the icon gets highlighted, but the program or other folder does not open. I checked in the folder options, and it is set up so that when you double-click an icon, it opens the program. But the weird thing about it is that if I try to double-click or right-click an icon on my desktop.. it works like it should. So this really just doesn't make sense.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm sure I am overlooking something obvious, but numerous recent problems with my system seem to be (hopefully) tied to the same source.I just don't know what it is.I am running windows XP home, service pack one (I have recently reverted back from SP2 thinking it may be the cause of the problems)
1) Any and all telnet type programs refusing to connect to any host (telnet, zmud, gmud, etc) In the case of zmud I can observe that my computer is in no way interfacing with another machine. telnet error is 'unable to contact host machine'
2) Windows media player (version 10) is unable to retrieve album info. Instead I immediately get a standard IE 'page cannot be displayed' screen.
3) Unable to register for many programs such as Gracenote. In the case of gracenote I recieve a 'socket open failed' error message.I am not currently running any firewall.
I only hae a 56k internet connection, so the instantaneous negative connection responses many of my programs display make it fairly obvious that this is a problem with my machine. I hope it is some silly xp setting I need to change.

I have a friend who has a pentium 2 350 which is currently running on Windows 98SE...yikes!My friend has been complaining that their computer has been running slow and that pop ups are appearing everywhere. I see nothing in the options and even when I reformatted my C Drive and reinstalled Windows I could still not get the right click to work. View 1 Replies View RelatedI can not Right Click on the Desktop of my PC. If I try to Right Click, all of the icons and the bottom toolbar dissapears for a second. The background is the only thing visible. And then it comes back after a second or two. Once ina while I get an error message but I cannot Right CLick to open a new folder or anything. It just turns blank. Here is what the error message said. Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. and here are some of the details:

The other problems have been running slower than ever. Programs sometimes just close while running. There is a "Hmck?" or some sort of error every time I start the computer. (I'll have to restart it for the exact name of the error) I It just seems like this computer isn't running properly. It's a Dell Dimension 2350, about 7 months old. I have run virus scan and none show up.

This is so strange. For some reason I can't click on any link sent to me in an email (I use Outlook Express) or in a messenger program like MSN or Yahoo Messenger. it seems to be any link that would open a new window when clicked on.It was working fine this morning, but now I can't, even though I've restarted several times.All I've done on my PC today is remove a bit of spyware with X-Cleaner, and installed Windows Media Player 10. I've tried doing a System Restore back to this morning but it's had no effect. Does anyone have any ideas why this is?I'm on a laptop with a touchpad, but everything else is working fine.

Some website that he used to visit regularly will not load and if they do, the layout and graphics are all messed up. Also, he can't seem to click on any buttons at all. I tried to install Norton but I can't click on the buttons to register his version. Therefore, I cannot run a virus scan to see if that is the problem.

Sometimes I cannot right click on the taskbar either. It is even worst when I cannot open any new console window i.e cannot open new window explorer, cannot open chat log. Has anyone ever got the same problem? And does anyone know how to solve it. Note that I have just reinstalled my Window a few days ago. However, after installing since the svchost runs continuously, I followed some guides on the net to unregister/register some services. Not sure, if it causes problem or not but at least it can stop svchost from running continuously.
