I have this new computer and it has been doing ok, until Saturday. It is a compaq 3400+amd 512mb,200gb.I use sypgate as my firewall, avast antivirus, ad-aware,ccleaner,sypywareblaster. I use IE and Hotmail as my only email. When I read the mail and delete it it does not delete. Did an ewido scan and it only showed some cookies!
View 7 RepliesHe goes into his INBOX and reads his emails. He does not delete the emails he has read and then he signs off. When he goes back into OE the read emails are now in his DELETED folder. I have checked the settings and cannot seem to find anything that he may have selected in error and cannot stop this from happening?

Because I teach office applications such as word, excel etc, they think I can fix it for them straight away. I have a little knowledge, they have none so to speak. Someone has pointed me to your site and so I thought I would give you guys a shot. What is happening. - The computer hard drive has got very little on it - but it is running very very slow. I know this is processor memory not storage memory that governs the speed, but I thought you needed to know that bit of info. The email doesn't appear to be working - it says the IMAP setting is wrong but I have checked the email account properties and they all look ok to me. It will log onto the internet - eventually - but is exceptionally slow and will not open any pages - although the browser window opens it keeps saying 'page cannot be displayed'. I have run adaware - but there wasn't much on it - although it did say that it could not delete 'deskadserve'.....

The tv, stereo, phone & fax are fine. My computer powers on and the first error message appears: winlogon.exe - unable to locate component. This application has failed to start because sfc_os.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. Next, I try to go into 1 of 3 email accounts. First error message here:

I just got a new computer with WinXPHome. All works OK except I can not receive my email into OE 6, all email stays with AT&T's Webmail, which I do not want to use. My old Win98 computer has no problems with getting my email. The settings on both computers are the same. I have disabled NAV email scanning. I have no idea what to do. I like OE, and want to continue using it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP Home and we currently have 5 user accounts all with administrator capabilites. The problem is, my daughter wants to delete her user account and has not been successful in doing so. Everytime we go into "control panel/user accounts and click on her name and then select "Delete account", it just sits there with the hourglass and then when I try to get out of it it says that the "program is not responding". We have done this numerous times with no success. I even tried deleting her account from safemode today and that didn't work either. There is something definitely messed up on her user name because I tried signing on under her name and couldn't do anything, it froze up on me and I had to restart. Our computer has been scanned for viruses (none) and adware/malware have all been removed using ad-aware/spybot search & Destroy.

It is stored in an out of the way directory (not system directory of any sort) and I found it when I was doing some housekeeping. The name of the file is PKUNZIP.EXE and it would have been copied onto this computer a couple years ago with some other files. Now I know what pkunzip is, but xp pro this file certainly is not required. Alas when I try to delete it I get this: Error Deleting File or Folder Cannot delete PKUNZIP: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again. So I'm pretty determined to get rid of this guy, not because it's a problem, but because it's made me mad hehe. So I tried to boot up with a 98 boot disk and delete from DOS. No go, 98 boot wont recognize NTFS.

The folder is named C:502371470d48710f4f and contains a subfolder named sp2. The subfolder contains 0 files. Both folders are read-only. I go to Properties and uncheck the read-only attributes; however when I try to delete I then find that the attributes have returned to (grayed-out) read-only. Access, of course, is denied.

Going through work computer trying to delete large amounts of old files. Some of them are just photos (part of work practice). I can not access them, to open them for viewing, nor delete them. Not part of old programs, just photos or .docs.

I have an incomplete install file on my desktop. It is an AVI preview program to view non-completed AVI files. Well, it never finished DLing so the file just sits there. I can't move it or delete it because it says it is in use by other programs, and when I double-click it, it says it is not a valid win32 application. It won't even delete in safe-mode. Any ideas?

I believe that this folder is interfering with Firefox running. While FF shows up in the task manager, the program does not open on the screen. Recently I have had to reinstall windows, and I set up my users again, but I noticed that the old accounts were still there in windows explorer under documents and settings, even though they don't come up on the screen when the pc starts up. I've deleted three of them as they were just taking up room, but there is one left that I can't remove. A box pops up saying that it is unaccessable and access is denied.

When I attempt to delete any of them, either to the recycle bin not, I get an error "Access Denied - ...". I am the computer administrator. The only help I could find on Microsoft site tells me to have the administrator change my privileges or the permissions on the files. Well, since I am the administrator, it seems like I should be able to do it myself.
