I have Windows XP Home and we currently have 5 user accounts all with administrator capabilites. The problem is, my daughter wants to delete her user account and has not been successful in doing so. Everytime we go into "control panel/user accounts and click on her name and then select "Delete account", it just sits there with the hourglass and then when I try to get out of it it says that the "program is not responding". We have done this numerous times with no success. I even tried deleting her account from safemode today and that didn't work either. There is something definitely messed up on her user name because I tried signing on under her name and couldn't do anything, it froze up on me and I had to restart. Our computer has been scanned for viruses (none) and adware/malware have all been removed using ad-aware/spybot search & Destroy.
All the systems on my network about 30 systems all running windows xp pro with service pack two keep deleting user profiles the sytems all connect to a win2k domain controller. users keep having problems opening their files or changing system settings even though they were originally configured as administrators on their systems wondering what the problem could be.
The title sums up my problem pretty well. I used to have a problem with switching user, my computer didn't respond after clicking 'switch user.' I searched for a thread about that problem on this site and solved it instantly. However, after switching user, the computer now returns back to the Windows XP main log-on screen as it's supposed to, but when trying to log onto a different user, the computer almost refreshes the screen and comes straight back to the log-on screen. The only user that has access to the computer at this point is the user that switched user originally.

A Friend of mine has recently broken up with his wife, And when he does Ctrl-Alt-Del, It say's his Wife's name in the "User Name" collumb, But this happens when he is on his part of the computer.
Attempting to delete a Limited User account from an Adminstrator account did not succeed; resulted in a program hang. Attempting to close the program earned a "Program Not Responding" box referring to the
I had a friend use my computer and create a user account. He recently moved out and I would like to get rid of his account but everytime I try to, the delete account window freezes and when I click on it, it says "not responding" This is really frustrating, but thank you for listening
A friend gave me an old computer running Win XP Pro, The computer has both a Admin and Guest account setup on it. I have the admin password but right now if I sign in with the Admin account it will not allow me to install any software? I would like to deleted both accounts thus not requiring a login or password can I just go to the Control Panel / User Accounts and remove both and this will solve my issue or do I need to do anything else.
Just reformated xp pro and on start up I was logged on as administrater every time I booted up , I have other users on computer and it kept defaulting to the administrater, so I made the fatal error of deleting the administrater profile and now I can't get into any user profile, anyone know of a fix for this problem?
I have found out that I have a corrupted user account. I have created a new account and am trying to now delete corrupted account but I can't as it always stays logged on. When I start the computer it goes straight to the corrupted account and will only let me switch users.
I recently performed a system recovery after getting a rather nasty virus. Everything else seems fine apart from these multiple instances of my administrator folder:
I'd like to delete all these un-necessary folders but when I try it says they are necessary for windows to run properly.
I had one machine that has gone out on loan during repairs and it now has several orphaned User folders under Documents & Settings, which did not have security set on them, have been emptied, but I would like to cleanup the mess. Logged in as Administrator and in safe mode I cannot delete these. I think this is one of those naming issues where the real name is not what's showing?? something like that. how do I ditch these I figure i might could slave it to a Win7 system, take over the files, then delete. that's a lotta work so if there's a quick way, that's better
To begin with. My Hal.dl file ended up missing, so I got an error and had to reinstall windows, bla bla bla bla. i didn't lose all my data, and just reinstalled windows. I had to reinstall all my programs again, and everything went swell, untill I hit one problem. I had a ton of data (over 15 GB of pictures/music, etc) on my desktop. Since it was on my desktop, I now have my previous user folder in my documents, and I am un able to open it, delete it, rename it, etc. I know that the data is still there because when I check how much of my drive is taken up, it is obvious. (22.2 GB DOES NOT just disapear
I notice that in the c:documents and settingsusernamelocal settings that there is a TEMP and a TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES directory. When I delete the temporary internet files in explorer let's say, the files are gone in the pathname above mporary interent files. My question is can I just go and delete the files in the TEMP folder manually as well? without damaging some other program applicaiton operations?
I bought a laptop from someone. Dell 6230S. It has windows XP sp2. I reloaded Windows and made myself the administrator. The person who had this before me has a group of files, lets call them JONAH (not real name) about 1/2 GB in size and I can't delete them!! Actually I've managed to delete some but not all. Jonah is about 1/2 the size it used to be. They're located in C:documents and Settings and they contain all his old files including his windows files, my documents etc. I've tried deleting from safe mode, I've tried using KillBOX (in and out of safe mode and on reboot), I've tried unchecking "READ OnLY" and I still can't do it. This is quite a bit of space so I want to reclaim it. I'm using NTFS.
Unable to Delete AVI Fix. Delete the value you find there. This is due to XP (explorer in particular) trying to create a previewfor it. Now because the file is corrupted or incomplete,it cannot read it properly, hence, it will not release the file. This prevents explorer from doing this.As usual, backup the registry key before deleting it.
I'm able to run MSCONFIG just fine as administrator, but I can't run it as limited user. The message is "An access denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an administrator account".But I'm pretty sure I've previously run MSCONFIG as limited user. Is my memory wrong, or is something wrong?
My friend and I took both of our old computer and combine them so we could have a small end gaming computer. Previously on the Hardrive was installed Windows 98 but we reformatted the Harddrive and are trying to put Windows Xp on it. We went through the setup with a series of from my HP System Recovery CD's (7 Disc's). Which installs Window's Xp, we went through all 7 CD's and at the very last CD when the installation was about complete it says "Unable to locate/create user partition." I have no idea what this means...and everytime we boot up the computer it just trys to do the Hp System Restore again but only goes as far as the unable to locate/create user partition.I'm not real sure what I should do...or how I can get out of it.but if theres anyway possible just to reformat again since I can't really get out of it can you please tell me how!
Last Thursday i tried logging on to my computer. But when i got to the welcome screen it said to select the username i wanted to log on to....but there were none to choose!I did the CTRL+ALT+DEL to log on to the administrator, went under control panel....and again found no accounts. Then went to Computer Management under the User and Groups tree and again no users!I finally went to c:documents and settings and i found my 3 accts. But nothing ive tried has been able to get back the icons on the welcome screen.I need the help because i can only log on to 1 of my 2 accounts and i nedd some files and other things.
Unable to log in user name and password. Also from control panel when i click user accounts it goes to control user passwords 2 window not to the xp styled user accounts window where i can add pictures etc. I checked my local and group policies but couldn't find anything there because it always shows the error while entering the name and passwords.
I have this new computer and it has been doing ok, until Saturday. It is a compaq 3400+amd 512mb,200gb.I use sypgate as my firewall, avast antivirus, ad-aware,ccleaner,sypywareblaster. I use IE and Hotmail as my only email. When I read the mail and delete it it does not delete. Did an ewido scan and it only showed some cookies!
They all look like this: $ntuninstallkb929399$ They are in the Windows directory, at the beginning. This is Win/xp sp2. I think they are some sort of uninstall file for MS fixes. But I don't honestly know. I have several pages of these files. Does anyone know what they are?? Can I safely delete these files????
I need help recovering my user files. My computer was acting very slow. I tried different restore times but was unable to solve the problem. it all started when I installed Nero. When I tried to access my music folder. I then got an error message stating that the folder was not responding. I then had the bright idea to do a PC recovery. bad idea. it deleted all of my user files except for shared files.
I seem to have lost the user account on my computer with XP home edition I can still log on to my computer via another user but of course I have lost all my saved emails and other saved items. I can retreive the files etc stored in the 'my documents' folder as that folder is still available in 'Documents & Settings' I realy want to log in to my old user account which ,incidentally, was not password protected.
I have a small domain with about 20 XP SP3 client machines. There are 25 or so domain members. One of my users had some files "disappear" from his My Documents Folder. After checking the recycle bin and searching for hidden files and folders with no luck, I logged in as admin and looked at his C:documents and settings'username' folder and found that it was created on his original hire date in 2009. (nearly a year ago)
I was not able to restore the system back to a previous state, nor was I able to back-up my documents, so I was forced to reinstall Windows XP Professional version 2002 and all of my other applications. A new Active Directory was created, giving me new user accounts, even though I used the same user names that had been created under the old installation. Under one of the old user accounts, I had a folder that was password protected, and it contained several important documents. Since the new Active Directory does not recognize that old user folder, I can not gain access to the folder to retrieve the files, even when logged on as the administrator. I get an error message that reads: Documents and Settings My Documents is not accessible.
